The Constitution of Brazil declares that everybody in this country has the right to acquire, inherit, and preserve property. It also says that nobody shall lose his or her property without "fair and previous pecuniary compensation to the owner".

Either the MST will be stopped cold or it will expand and eventually become Brazil's government.Brazil could become a full fledged Communist dictatorship with the seizure of all private property and possible murder of ALL land and business owners.

Scary stuff written by Guest,

My wife ( Paulista ), and I ( gringo ) have been contemplating moving from the US to the south of Brazil ( Santa Catarina state ) in the not to distant future. Things like this though give us pause. Private property ( after rule of law, they are intertwined ), is the backbone of democracy, and economic stability. What the hell are these people thinking? Actually, if the govt is infiltrated with communists, marxists, and fellow travelers. then the answer is all to clear. My observation of Brazil is: wonderful people, undeservedly bad government. The current US regime leaves a bad taste in my mouth, but I think the country will survive it. I wish I could say the same about Brazil, unfortunately.

Now how about if the Brazilian pizza driver delivering pizza to the polling station that said "Get Rid of Bush" stays in Brazil where he belongs! I called him a Commuist to his face.... he probably took it as a compliment!

You do? written by Guest,

Anyone who says "Get Rid of Bush" is a "Communist"? And you called this pizza delivery guy a Commie "to his face" (how brave)? You have the mental depth of a crepe. You are obviously some kind of anachronistic McCarthyite paranoid who sees "commies" everywhere and who brainlessly paints anyone who disagrees with your narrow minded views with this broad, red brush. Does the word “crackpot” mean anything to you? As for your attack of this hapless pizza guy, I ask, “At long last, have you no decency?”

I don't care what label you want to use, the fact is you either believe in the right to private property or you don't. If you don't then the label "communist" is fitted for you. Now that said, there is an obligation on the part of the state to reserve and protect areas on the state for "community" use, parks, preserves, and the like. There are extremists on both sides of this issue. Bush is an extremist in the pro-development, privitization camp. There is no love lost for him from me. Interesting how those politicians supporting these groups like MST, draw nice fat paychecks from the taxpayers( MST's gang pays no taxes ). If they really believed in the cause, they'd serve for minimum wage or no pay. My biggest problem with MST and it's supporters is that they foment lawlessness, as if that were a noble effort. If the laws are bad, get them changed thru democratic means. Encouraging and abetting lawlessness, will send Brazil back down the path to Dictatorship. History shows here is no other possibility. But then that's what Communists use to achive their aims.
PS. The pizza guy is probably a Democrat, not a Communist, unless you happen to be a Republican, then he's a Communist .

Oligarchic racist writing this article. written by Guest,
March 27, 2005
This right wing nut needs a lesson.
Well what can one expect from an idiot oligarchic and racist person, like Zimmermann.
He comes from the so-called "white-boys club". These so called white boys, use hired thugs and land speculators to steal land from indigenous, caboclo, quilombo, and campesino families. Those who fight back are either killed or intimidated to give up their land.
tell me zimmermann, where is the private property rights of quilombo, indigenous, caboclo, and campesino families. Or are they not humans and deserve the same rights, as the oligarchic "white" farm thieves of Brazil???
what is you answer?
Then when the government tries to carry on land reform, racist land thieves like zimmermann says all sorts of negative things, like organizations, like the MST are terrorists or they do not respect property rights.
It is very interesting this property rights concept. the nation of brazil itself, like many north american countries, was founded based on the theft of land, which was the property of indigenous peoples.
Later, when the indigenous populations were massacred, black slaves were inhumanely treated on those stolen property, all of whose wealth helped to enrich an oligarchic, gringo-supporting, and generally white elite in brazil.
In short, in zimmermann's view, when he is talking of private property, he is referring to the private property of white brazilians and mulitnational companies, which are allied to the world bank and IMF.
In his views indigenous, quilombo communities, caboclo villages, and campensino have no private property rights.
That makes Zimmermann a hypocritical and racist idiot, who is allied with the right wing oligarchy and the IMF, world bank, and the republican gringos in the US.

Enjoy drowning in the toilet of your own mind. Having a discussion with one who "thinks" like you is the equivilant of talking to a can of tuna. If those of your ilk get into power Brazil hasn't got a prayer. Otherwise you could always emigrate to Cuba, Fidel could always use another shoeshine boy.

Yes, for the most part the Brazilians I've come across are wonderful people. I have sympathy for those who thru no fault of their own are suffering in poverty. I have only contempt for those fortune enough to be "educated" SOB's , who piss that education away spouting marxist ( or other discredited ) tripe, who either slept thru history class, or were auto-promoted thru school.. Regarding my wife and I moving to Brazil, I'm the one saying let's do it, and she's the hesitant one. Guess that's why I married her, to bring stability and clearheadedness into my life. A Brazilian told me once, "life in the US is good but it's s**t, life in Brazil is s**t but it's good". Took a bit to grasp what he said, but it ties in with your last comment. Brazils' future is always as bright as an oncoming train in a tunnel. Maybe in a decade...

The MST is not just a land reform movement, but, mainly, a revolutionary organization fighting for the abolition of private property.
In interview to Jornal da Tarde (JT), dated April 24, 2000, a source from the FARC High Command confessed that his terrorist organization maintains good ties of relationship with the MST.
Although the main activity of the MST is the promotion of violent invasions of property, including public buildings, this movement is also directly involved in many other criminal activities, including looting freight from commercial trucks, blocking of highways, destruction of public buildings, and hostage taking of peasants and public officers.
Above all, the MST is a revolutionary movement for the destruction of liberal democracy. The following statement comes from a MST official document. Of course, it is was released only in Portuguese, for only the radical left in America needs to know the real intentions of this 'social' movement:
“The idea of collective implies a conscious acceptance on the part of subordinates of decisions taken by those who are responsible for controlling them. It also implies that all members of the collective must participate of fundamental decisions taken by their supreme leaders… It implies the submission of the individual to the collective… It implies the subordination of inferior organisms to superior ones. It implies the subordination of all segments and all organisms towards a social directive… To eliminate contradictions between us and our enemies, we, the MST, must impose dictatorship”

Brazil seems to be in such chaos over land ownership and use. Land invasion is not "normal democratic process". Establishing just laws and a government (State and Federal levels) who protects the rights of all of its people is true democracy. I am certain that you (all involved in supporting lawlessness, and grabbing and defamation of those who stand for justice, know the truth of Brazil's land illness. How many more people, church leaders will you kill, or people will you keep in poverty before you have the courage to become the World leader in justice that I believe most of loving Brazilian citizens want Brazil to become?

gringo, you stole the land of the indigenous people and then enslaved black people.
your evil republican government also did coups against left leaning presidents in guatemala, cuba, venezuela, nicaragua, chile, brazil, argentina, colombia, panama, and el salvador.
so you are indeed a thief and a typical imperialist. as for you marrying a brazilian woman, it shows that like a typical gringo thief, you also like to steal our woman. so you are a vile kind of imperialist thief, who wants to destroy the left leaning revolution in cuba, venezuela, brazil, and all of latin america.
viva hugo chavez, castro!!! Down with the gringo thieves and war mongers and coup supporters against left leaning governments.

To the guy who married the Brazilian wom written by Guest,
April 27, 2005
Good going. I bet she is beautiful. I am with you one-hundred percent on all your arguements. The guy is mad that he was one of the people f**ked, along with more than half the world. Now I am not saying he does not have the right to be upset, but bitching and making inaccurate assumptions about you and your wife is obsurd. I second the notion that he needs to learn how to argue and more so, actually needs to find a legitimate case to argue. To ridicule you for your happiness, just shows his bitterness. On another note, I dont like how he puts women in possesive catagory such as animals in captivity. (To the crazy Brazilian: the Brazilian woman are NOT yours, your countries, nor anyone elses. They are human beings with THEIR own dessions.) I am not convinced that women was forced to marry, what seems to be a nice, well educated intellectual. Any who, for your future, I wish you and your wife the best of luck . PS. When I get out of Reed College Brazil is my intended destination. Yet, I have the same concerns as the authory and your family. But Ill just have to wait and see how Brazils cookie crumbles in these next 3 years. If i do end up in Brasil, for gods sake I hope not to incounter many men such as the one you have. Again, good luck to you.
