In 1994, Brazilian voters expressed their desire for change in the country when they elected Fernando Henrique Cardoso. He was an intellectual from the Left, backed by a Left party, the Brazilian Social Democracy Party (PSDB), which was created by those who did not believe the old Brazilian Democratic Movement Party (PMDB) had been transformed.

Why can't Cardosos' PSDB and Lula's PT get along? Because the Cardoso and his PSDB represent NEOLIBERALISM and the BRAZILIAN SUBSERVIENCE to the most ominous force that has emerged on the face of Earth since Nazism: THE WASHINGTON CONSENSUS; While Lula and his PT don't. But I think you already knew that... ;-)

The above poster is as ignorant as the average brazilian. He talks about Neoliberalism but probably doesn't know Hayek. How could you compare the mercantilist, quasi-middle-ages brazilian economy to that of Hong Kong, the one that got closer to the so called neoliberalism, a system where the state must enforce the law, nothing more than that... Neoliberalism without sanctity of contracts? With huge state expenses in "development" (that is, stealing the money from the sucessful businesses to put them in the hands of incompetent managers,as it's the case with Petrobrás, VASP and the likes, be it state-owned or publicly-owned). C'mon!

When will the inferiority complex cease to exist in Brazil? Subservience to Washington? Who are you kidding? There is a game of interest that should attend both sides of the equation, if one side ends up with the short end of the stick then blame it on its own incompetence. Look where the Brazilian politicians brought your country. From the 8th economy about 15 years ago to the 16th nowadays. Countries like Holland, which would fit into Sao Paulo, has a greater GNP. Corruption and incompetence are the problem in Brazil and other south American countries, not the US economy. Look what happened to Mexico during that period, it benefited from Nafta and had the opposite results when compared to Brazil. Now Mexico - despite its immigration and other problems - is way ahead of Brazil. The corruption before PT was not good after PT however, it is horrendous what is worse is the fact that if hides behind phony ideology. It it just more of the same.
