In the 70s, there was a joke in college campuses in Brazil. That Stalin did not want the establishment of the socialism in Brazil so not to demoralize the regime. As a joke it wasn't that funny, since socialism had been demoralized long before that, and definitively, by Stalin himself.

the other side of the story... written by Guest,

Janer CrYstaldo forgot to mention a few details: -> The accuser himself (Dep**ado Roberto Jeferson) has a dubious past and in Brazil and it is public knoweledge the he is one of the filthiest and most corrupt politician this country has ever seen (and this country has seen a lot), just like most of his party, the PFL. -> Untill now, absolutely NO PROOF whatsoever has been presented. No to mention a bunch of contradition and sudden changes of speech of the accuser that the media consistently overlooks -> Congressman Dep. Roberto Jeferson has also accused the previous government (Fernando Henrique Cardoso and his right-wing neoliberal party, the PSDB, which is so beloved by the author of this article) of corruption. In fact, he stated that the FHC government was the most corrupted and dirty one that he ever saw. However, the media (gee, I wonder why) again overlook this accusation, pubblishing nothing or very little about it and the PSDB party itself insists that the accusations Roberto Jeferson made against Lula and the PT are "very serious" and "should be fully investigated", while saying absolutely nothing about the accusations the same Roberto Jeferson made against it, ignoring it completely, as if they were blind and deaf. Interesting, huh?

Ah Janer!!
Janer represents the most despicable form of human- the critic. Always ready to point out the flaws of others but never offering any solutions. I suggest Janer's columns are more suitable for the comic pages. The utter lack of substance in his writings belies a shallow, mindless, bitter man. Lula is not perfect, PT is not perfect but they have made a gallant attempt to improve the brasilian economy. Is there corruption? Of course. But it didn't start in 2002 and it won't end in 2005. Real sustainable progress is made in small steps and the foundation is being laid.

Dear God, Janer... when we were starting to think you were dead, just like your pal John Fitzpatrick, you come back! It was too good to be true. Well, let's just hope this long desappaerment of yours means you are very sick? I hope so... so I won't have to read this s**t you write anymore. By the way, it is not Marx who said the end justify the means. It was Maquiavel, centuries before. Is Sorbonne that crappy that they didn't teach you that or perhaps you're already too old and your brain is decomposing? I'll bet on the second.

deceptive information written by Guest,
June 28, 2005
Perhaps what's more dangerous about this article is the fact that it states that Lula's government bought the support of the congressmen with the "mensalão" (in the article translated as "big monthly"). The foreign reader who has no idea about what's really going on in Brazil might believe that, since the author, a very good journalist indeed, failed to inform a little detail: untill now there have been only accusations from one congressmen (with an ugly past), and not one single proof. Lula and hist party are under investigation, but untill the present moment no real evidence has been found. Mr. Cristaldo, this is borderline a calumny. Not to mention the lack of respect for the foreign reader, offering them deceptive information.

Yellow Journalism written by Guest,

True. Jefferson is a crook who was caught red-handed. There has been no proof yet of what he claims. Yet people like Cristaldo (perpetual anti-Lula crypto facists) immediately have tried and convicted everyone. This is yellow journalism at its worst.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE AUTHOR written by Guest,

This is a great article.
Jader might be not a believer, but he truly received divine inspiration for writing it. For socialism is by far the best of inventions of the Devil to deceive (and kill) people.

The Devil? hahahah written by Guest,
July 01, 2005
Socialism is an invention of the Devil and the Devil is an invention of the Roman Catholic Church, based on ancient religions of minor Asia (Zoroastrism) and incorpotating elements of pagan Gods (the hoofs and horns from greek god Pan, which existed at least a thousand years before christianity was born). God read some history!

\"Jader\" Uninspired written by Guest,

You Fundamentalist Chrisitan and Catholic types are so funny. Gosh, don't you realize how many other Christian and Catholic socialists there are in the world who are divinely inspired to the cuase of social justice? "Jader" is "divinely inspired" becuase you agree with him? Even though he's an atheist? What a dolt you are!
Everyone, see how "Jader's" atheism makes his rabid Christian anti-socialist fans completely bonkers! It's so goddamned hilarious!
Of course if "Jader" were a socialisit, you'd claim he was the devil because he's an atheist.
How many people have been deceived and killed in the name of Christianity?
And don't give us your pseudo-Christian socialsim is from the devil rubbish. The so-called social teachings of Jesus are downright communist. You'd have crusified him yourself for being a socialist, you heretic! Learn your own religion!

Is that a joke? Janer Cristaldo lucid? Bwhaaa-ha-ha-ha! LOL. The guy is a complete propeller headded lunatic. Surely you meant "lunatic minds." You can practically see him foaming at the mouth at the thought of Lula.
You must be one of the dumbest people in the world to be calling his ravings "informative."
