He was born to a very poor family in Northeast Brazil, in the city of Recife, Pernambuco state. But his neighborhood was called Bairro dos Prazeres (Borough of Pleasures). And pleasure he found, at 8, when he discovered forms and colors.

I have visited the artist's Britto Central in Miami Beach and he really is quite amazing. Incredible colors, very tropical, his work screams life. Another good piece coming from Clara. Thanks.

Great, I've seen Britto's yellow cars. The painted ones. He is really something.

I love how this interview takes and moves you. Just checked Britto's website and what a delight! Never heard about him before, but now I'm certainly going to look him up and check his work more closely.

Absolute... I remember that campaign, I remember the impact but I never knew how that changed this artist's lifel I also saw him on The Apprentice, but never imagined how big he had become. Wow wow wow ten times. A ghetto child who made it big in a foreign country really is a remarkable story. Thanks for filling us in, Clara.

A half a million dollar sculpture??? What a story! Does this artist has a foundation to help other poor artists?

What a touching piece. I just heard about brazzil.com and was thrilled to read Ms. Porto's piece on Brazilian artist Romero Britto. I have checked Mr. Britto's website after reading about him here. It is pretty incredible how some people, like Romero Britto, are born with this unbelievable power not only to change their own lives but to change perceptions, which he does with his art. Congratulations on this excellent article.
