Of Brazil's 180 million people, an estimated 46 million go to bed hungry every night. In an effort to help alleviate this problem, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, upon his election in 2003, started the poverty program Fome Zero (Zero Hunger).

I am not from Brazil, however am originally from another country where widespread hunger and poverty are a fact of life (I am from india originally, live in the US for the last decade). I have been to Brazil quite a few times and have seen that the social inequality is even worse than my home country. Brazil has a lot of very fertile land especially in the central-west and southern parts. I saw at least 300 miles of continous soy farms near the Goais and Pantanal region. It should be able to feed it's people well enough.

the problem is the administration of the program. It's a great idea, and totally necissary, but it must draw from the experiences of other programs to try programs that are successful and wont have a ton of bureaucratic BS
