The problem with both thieves was that they had a tint of professional competence, but beneath it there was a thick amateur carcass. The Fortaleza robbers devised an excellent plan and executed it carefully, but were too fast to flee: they left behind used clothes, hairs, fingerprints, everything that can be used to identify them. Afterwards they devised the most cumbersome way to smuggle the money away: they bought expensive SUVs and stuffed them with the banknotes, then they hired big trucks to bring the cars to São Paulo. A red flying hippopotamus would attract less attention...

Adhemar de Barros, the man who said, "I steal, but I make things happen." He was honest enough to confess he was a thief. And then there's Salim Maluf more recently. I'm sure other posters will think about their own favorite honest robber.
