American author Glenn Alan Cheney has written a book about a little-known part of Brazil, the interior of Minas Gerais. To research his book, Journey on the Estrada Real: Encounters in the Mountains of Brazil, Cheney walked 450 km, from Mariana, Minas Gerais state, to Diamantina, also Minas Gerais, following the oldest road in the Americas, the Estrada Real.

Admittedly, this book is a good read and interesting and insightful, but it did lack the explanations of popular sights in some core cities as well as exploration of tourism or 'of interest' aspects beyond interaction with people and their simple daily lives and their worldviews. The latter are valuable but so would the former be.
