Let's Nationalize Teachers and Make a Federal Case Out of Education in Brazil PDF Print E-mail
2005 - October 2005

Brazilian teacher in the classroomThe week of October 9 to 15 should have been called the "Week of the Future." On October 12 we commemorated the Day of the Child and on October 15, the Day of the Teacher. These two days are interconnected and linked to the future, and they have in common their abandonment by the federal government. The teacher and the child are the pillars of the future. But in Brazilian public life they have never been a priority.

Is this guy serious?

I'm utterly shocked I didn't see "permanent revolution" in this article, not even once. I can simpatize with your need for intelectual masturbation, but surely a Ph.D. in economics can visualize the system and undestand the implausibility and limitations of it. Why do I always feel there's not enough qualified people to create the critical mass needed to educate Brazil? Or am I just misinformed? The only thing that could help saving world education is electronic ink, but I doubt that will ever be more than ink on celulose.
Mr Buarque........

...why have you not implemented what you say now...when you were Minister of Education ???????

...you are criticizing the disparity of teachers salaries. But you recognize openly....that while teachers salaries were already high in DF, and fully paid by the federal government, YOU as Governor complemented even further their already high salaries !!!!!
THIS MEANS THAT YOU INCREASED....THE DISPARITIES !!!!!!!.
THIS MEANS THAT YOU SPENT UNECESSARY STATE MONEY....TO ALREADY HIGH SALARIES... ALREADY PAID BY THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT ¨!!!!!

IS THAT NOT THROWING MONEY ???????

ARE YOU THEN SURPRISED OF FEDERAL AND STATE DEFICITS !!!!!!!

AS GOVERNOR, THE MONEY YOU SPENT IN ADDITION TO THE FEDERAL MONEY PAID TO TEACHERS COULD HAVE GONE TO OTHER SOCIAL PROGRAMS EVEN IN YOUR STATE....WHERE POVERTY ALSO EXISTS !!!!!!!! OR...THAT MONEY COULD HAVE GONE TO ANOTHER MORE NEEDY STATE !!!!!!!
BUT YOUR PREFERRED TO INCREASE THE INEQUALITIES INSTEAD OF REDUCING THEM !!!!

Now as a simple EX EX EX you are giving lessons....of exactly the opposite of what you did !!!!!!

Mr Buarque...shame on you ! No one should be surprised of how badly your country is mismanaged !!!!!!

Please don't tell me you're an American mocking another country's stagnation when it relates to education.
....no....

...I am a European who find strange that in all Brazil, teachers salaries must be paid py states except in DF where salaries are paid by the federal government. What a democracy !!!!!!!!!

...I am also highly critical that DF teachers have such a high salary...compared to other states....and that on top of that the Governor complement still further with his own budget...these same high salaries !!!!
This simply demonstrates that inequalities are voluntarily made by brazilian politicians and no one else !!!!!!

They do this all the time....while in power....and later want to teach and give lessons...as how things should be done.
But they did the exact opposite....while in power !!!!!

So...again and again...shame on this Buarque who is EX senator, EX governor and EX Minister of Education.¨

He is exactly the type of guy...responsible to the roots of your problems...of the last centuries !!!!!!

Doing what he did...is a Brazilian lifestyle that clearly explain why Brazil has the worst wealth inequalities in the world.....after Sierra Leone !!!

Truly....nothing to be proud of !!!!!

Cheers
Government not going to solve the proble

The author is a bit naive to think nationalizing education is the answer. Having everyone receive the same nationalized education with teachers receiving a nationalized wage-level-- will only nationalize poverty. That said, it's great that municipalities are in charge of education. Now there will be some competition between them and good teachers and flock to the places they're valued most. And parents who value their kids' education can flock to the muncipalities which provide the best education. Competition between the municpalities will raise the standard of education around the country. A free-market competitive solution is best.
