On November 25, 2005, George Best, Britain's iconic football genius and self-destructive prodigal son, died in an expensive, private London hospital, from complications following a liver transplant in 2001. Bests' death was not unexpected - he had been drinking for 40 years. In the end, perhaps his death was a relief for those who loved him, knowing he was no longer in pain.

Where is the article about the Brazilian army being ready to defend the American region from invaders?
It was right here in Brazzil yesterday, 05/31, but now it HAS JUST VANISHED.
Didn´t my comments on endangered American forests please Brazzil´s staff??
Isn´t this a free serious magazine???

I like your article. It was a combination of the reality of Best's life and your perception toward his life. But I have to disagree on your comment that he was remembered becasue he was oridanry. I think he is remembered because he was not ordinary as a footbalist and he was forgotten and died in hospital because he gave up on being who he could be or who he becaem by let drinking take his health and finally his life. at the end, I think great people alwarys be remembered by people.

I am an English man who has read 'Little Birds' biography and books by George Best. It is easy to draw comparisons between them, As Best admitted alcoholism is a disease which killed him and Garrincha, they both chased women and were possibly not the most astute with money. Best now has an airport named after him and Garrincha is all but forgotten outside Brazil. Let us hope that young players learn the good aspects of football from them and do not repeat the excesses away from the pitch.

I like your article. It is informative and interesting. Even though I live in US and like football, I did not know anyting about Best and his life. It was a good comparision between Brizilian footbalists such as Garrincha and Pele. I know People in middle east love Brizilian football and its footbalists. And it's capability to win gives people around the world to feel, there is osmething which the power can not get from people which is more powerful of technology and weopon. But how people like Best or Garrincha use their power for change around the world is different story. for example Mohamad Ali stood for humanity by not going to the war against Vietnam. The sad part of being the Best is, when instead of using his power and capability to do something for humanity, and people around the world or at least people in his country who die of hunger, cruelty or being killed by corrupted governments each day ,spending his money for alchohal or lust. and end up like best or ...., you name it.

Best came from an era when ‘renta-celeb’ for causes was not common. He has spoken a lot about alcoholism in recent years so may have drawn at least some attention to this. Best possibly got caught up in his own legend and having read his last book you get a sense that he may have been remorseful about certain things.
