EavesdroppingWhen it hears certain notes from the "white-bellied go-away" bird (Corythaixoides leucogaster), a small African antelope (Madoque guenthery), is more likely to run for shelter, stop grazing, turn its head, or even start watching its surroundings.

But corruption in Brazil is not only accepted and tolerated.
It is even pardoned by the lawmakers, themselves corrupted to the roots..of course ! Those pardoning also expect a pardon when at their turn they will be found finally also corrupted.

Corruption is even suggested to spread and increase...from the highest rankings Brazilians officials !

But a young mom stealing a tube of butter deserves a 4 years jail term as per the Brazilian Courts of Injustice ! True story...sadly !

This is the Brazilian Model, Robbing Hook and el al expect to export
the World over.

A very good and informative article for those Brasilian readers who have been following up the recent illegal wire tapping "incidents" that have involved notable private citizens as well as Government authorities without the "wire tapped" ones being aware of the fact that they are being monitored. In some cases, the contents of the conversations were "leaked" to the press and the people whose phones were tapped were judged and found guilty without having a chance to defend themselves in the court room.

My congrats to Mr.Lima Dantas for publishing this article at the right time. Unless the interception of all means of communications is regulated and brought under the "Rule of Law", many outspoken but law abiding private citizens who criticize the "authorities" can easily be penalized. That would be the beginning of censorship and suppression of freedom of speech. I don't think that a large majority of the Brasilians would like to see this happening.

Brazil and its weak democratic governance regime
written by Izabela Pereira, January 25, 2009
My congratulations for the deep analysis of Mr. Dantas. As he stated, “For reasons no different from those discussed here, today's society finds itself "pacifically invaded" by private companies today, as personal information, previously hard or even impossible to obtain, is discovered and questioned in routine telemarketing inquiries... The "raw materials" of knowledge used in criminal investigations can often be freely in the hands of private companies even before they reach public officers, criminally liable for unauthorized searches for that same knowledge, this time in the interest of the State.”
Brazil, as many others “developed” or under-developed countries, still need to strength its so called democratic governance regime. Strengthening its State institutions, fighting against corruption, ensuring transparency and accountability as well as check and balance mechanisms in line with the empowerment of the law system and its national priorities is a must if Brazil still wants to be on the path towards the future and progress.

Learning takes time, but it is indispensable

I would like to congratulate Mr. Dantas for presenting such an informative and rich article. Most observers may understand this case as one more example of a supposedly ‘Brazilian penchant for illegalities’… However, as Mr. Dantas inferes, it may just demonstrate that Brazil is really improving and strengthening – although slowly – its democratic and republican institutions. The next step, therefore, is to press for and support this improvement, especially through the punishment of those who insist in making a living out of the rule of law.
