Is it a suprise that while there was a world wide outcry over cartoons there was no world wide outcry against 9/11, train bombing in Spain, bus bombing in London, shopping mall bombing in Israel, or the numerous bomings against Iraqui police, not really. He condemned the violent protests, and obviously (if you read the interview) is opposed to the holocaust caricatures. Most Muslims in the West think the same way—that is, they have share the values of mutual respect and tolerance that are the keystones of our pluralistic societies (Brazilian, or American) If only all of our posters shared in those values, then we could avoid seeing this portal defaced with bigoted calls for genocide.

The writer who posted “Public Reaction” is on to something when he says that “the outcry against cartoons is greater than having extremists ‘hijacking’ Islam,” but that is not THE ONLY problem; there is a mesh of other issues here, from the Arab word’s dependency on oil for economic growth, to the exclusion of Muslims from the Western European economy and society. There was a questioned directed at the division within Islam though, and for the most part, the sheik seemed to shy away from answering it directly. The forces that made him do so are alas, also part of “the problem”, and its not going to be solved any time soon.

In general, readers should bear in mind that I Mr. Jihad’s answers do not reflect my opinion. I can’t characterize Veja’s coverage because the article is not available online. I asked Mr. Jihad to explain why they were boycotting, and he gave a vague answer. Were I true journalist I would have gotten a hold of the material and followed up, but volunteer works pays very poorly, so it stayed as it is.

As for the PCness, well I accurately documented his words, and then went through the work of translating them. They reflect his opinion, not mine, and anyone with any sense can see that.

Keep in mind, also, that Mr. Jihad cannot be asked to answer for the bloody protests, terrorist attacks in Iraq, or the fundamentalist fascism of the Iranian government. The object here was to get his quick perspective, whatever it was, on the cartoon controversy. The interview would have been better with hard follow up questions, yes, but its damn time consuming to transcribe and translate. There are between 1.3 million to 2.8 million Muslims in the United States. Like it or not, most are law abiding, and detest terrorism.
