She has a lot of integrity. Sounds like it's about the truth not the scoop.
A great read

True. This sounds like a real woman, with principles, a mind of her own, who makes a difference on what she does. Congratulations to Clara for the excellent choice and wonderful job.
Great piece

What a wonderful interview. It made more hopeful of the role of the press in today's world. I wish there were more people with this kind of mind writing. Meaning minds like these two journalists. Power to the women!
Well done

A journalist with Ms. Leitao's mind really deserves an award like Columbia's Ms. Porto should be congratulated on her choice and excellent questions.

Congrats.
No wonder

No wonder she´s been awarded a Columbia prize since all she does is repeating american media´s views on the Brazilian economy and politics as if they were hers.

You must be kidding me. This woman has her own brain. Do you know her work at all? How can you say such a thing. Such bitterness. You must be one of those republicans...
No wonder

I wrote the "no Wonder" post above. In fact I´m not republican, not even american to begin with. I´m a brazilian economist. I´m not bitter at all ... the fact is that I remember that when I still lived in Brazil and used to watch "Bom dia Brasil" at Globo TV, I really found her analyses shallow and non-original. I worked for an investment bank there and what I heard from Mrs. leitão sounded just like those boring, not-surprising-at-all, repetitive reports I´d constantly read on the brazilian economy.
In my point of view her political analyses are moderatly good, and the economic ones are just passable, if not mediocre.

With all due respect, mr./ms. economist, leitao doesn't seem like she's repeating anything. At least in this interview she positions herself in an assertive way and the feeling I get is that she knows what she's talking about. I don't think she would receive such an outstanding award from Columbia if she didn't have solid work to back it up. Besides, this is a wonderful article, with good questions and answers. Maybe Leitao has improved since you last heard her comments. People do grow and learn...
No Wonder

All right, this is a free country and everybody has the right to express opinions. And I´ll stick to mine. You like her comments, I don´t. I mean, I don´t properly "dislike" them, I just can´t see what´s so special about them. I remember a former Globo economic journalist, Lilian Witte Fibe (or something like that), that IMHO was way better than Mrs. Leitão. And I could name others.

Fine. Lilian is a fine journalist indeed and also a gorgeous woman. I wonder where she is these days...
We agree on this one...
No wonder

You see? I´m not bitter, it is just a matter of opinion. We can even agree on things... ;-)
About Lilian, I understand that when she left Globo she began working for an internet company, maybe UOL, but I cant remember. Was it really "Witte Fibe" or my memory´s playing tricks on me?
Another economic journalist that I like (but in a whole different stage since she´s a begginer, not to be compared to Lilian or Miriam, even if I don´t like Miriam that much) is Globo´s Elaine Bast. We studied together at the university and never met again, but when I visited Brazil last January I had the opportunity to watch her at Jornal Nacional and could see that she really knows her subject (AND she´s gorgeous too).
Poor Miriam Leitão!

Not happy with the manipulation and disinformation provided by Rede Globo she has chosen the US to live! Now she's probably suffering the manipulation of the Masters of Rede Globo.
Miriam, don't lose faith!! Open your eyes and your ears!! Check no american or no manipulated by americans sources of information. You're not the first brazilian to suffer it!!

For your information, Miriam doesn't live in Brazil, she lives in Rio. If you read the article, you will know things better.
Rio

"Miriam doesn't live in Brazil, she lives in Rio"

Rio is not in Brazil?

Meaning, she doesn't live in the US, but Brazil, in Rio. Referring to the person up there who said Leitao lived in the US
