Brazil is much bigger than Sao Paulo or even bigger than the whole area affected by the occurrence.

Anyway, the situation in Sao Paulo is much serious than someone can convey at the moment. I am sure that there are things happening that we do not know behind the curtains involving the criminals and state officials.

I agree with John, Lula is showing modest reaction or no genuine indignation for the whole situation in our big cities. To say that the organized crime is a serious issue in Brazil is now known to be an understatement. It is a social calamity.

The law enforcement in Brazil did not do that bad from my point of view, that is given some of the archaic six-shooters some of them are issued in Sao Paulo state (I realize many officers had more advanced weaponry) and the fact that they apparently had no ground troop help from the federal military forces (unlike LA by the United States Marine Corps in the LA riots - even with an LA police force that has far more assets than the Sao Paulo police force).

160 deaths over several days period in a city of something like 10 or 18 million people, can be kept in better context, casualties that is, by comparing it to what the fall smaller city of New York took in casualties in the 9-11 attacks. Both were arguably orginized terrorist strikes. New York city however took thousands of deaths in one day - and one that targeted primarily civilians not the New York police force.

Unlike New York City or the entire United States country for that matter, Sao Paulo's and Brazil's terrorists are isolated in specific geographical locations in Brazil, wherein they can be qauatered, seiged, and devoured if the will and resources are put into it. New York and the United States on the other hand have a suicidal enemy which is scattered in a whole host of places all over the globe.

But for Brazil to not give birth to new generation of "terrorists" a hard hand just in itself will not do. Brazil must make a real and sincere effort to share wealth, prosperity, and give genuine respect and esteem to those in the favelas. Or else greed and snobbishness will create future fighting gang members (or "terrorists) in the favelas.

Unfortunately, organized crime is just that organized. While the police pay so little they cannot get anybody with any organizational skills. If Brasil wants to stop this problem some group needs to stand up and demand that politicians and government workers who sit on thier ass and do nothing but collect a retirement check after 10 years earn less and give some of that to hiring skilled and honest people for the police and jail guards. I mean R200, to bribe a jail guard, jesus christ, you know that guy wasn't paid enough to care about losing his job. Too bad the gangs didn't target the politicians.

As far as comparing this situation with 9-11, it couldn't be more different, and the PCC is not a group of terrorists, they're organized crime...period. And they're brazilians. There are a number of US born citizenry in the US listed as terrorist. And most of them are not Islamic nor dark people. When I was in the service guarding nuclear weapons one of the listed terrorist orginization we to be aware had the potential desire to aquire or steal a nuclear weapon was the KKK. - a white supremacist orginization.

Many "terrorist" orginizations are involved in illegal activities we would call "crime," or even to the extent we would call "orginized crime."

The word "terrorist" is really just a play on words. The official US State's definition of terrorism aside, anyone or group that inflicts *terror* to accomplish its goal or further its cause or want, is just a "terrorist."

Therefore, if the citizens of Sao Paulo were terrorized, by the PCC in their recent attack, if the Brazilian stock market and value of the Brazilian real, took a decline do to a shock of fear sent in investors, I think one can justly apply the term "terrorists" to the PCC.

But then that's just my feelings on the matter. But I feel confident in saying that if gang in the US pulled what the PCC just recently did, with in short order the US Government would have elevated them from "orginized crime" category to "terrorist orginization." Then the US Government would - back by the law and homeland security - handle them in such manner. Moving to decapitate the beast and send dejection into its ranks and all its sympathizers. (Gitmo [Guantanamo Bay] is one of the examples of a form of spreading dejection)

The humor in all this is that anyone that has served in the United States Marine Coprs "Security Forces" MOS... are well aware that what I'm stateing is the truth.

In case you are unaware, Security Forces MOS primary mission is the protection of nuclear weapons. Hence the deployment - or once deploment of Marines aboard such naval ships as air craft carriers and battle ships. The only dumbass is you. The KKK is listed as "An enemy of the United States Government."

Quite a number of white supremacist orginizations have been involved in such activities as bank robbery and the murder of US federal agents.

Unlike many MOS in the Marine Corps, the Security Forces MOS requieres its Marines to shoot through its own members if necassary (in other words if a "tango" has a gun pointed to a sentry's head while standing behind him), that is in protection of a nuclear weapon from theft. Security Forces is also required (at land facilities) to call in air strikes on their own position if their compound is over-run and theft of a weapon likely.

The United States Government does *not* discount white supremacist orginization from potentially seeking or attempting to steal by force a nuclear weapon (you are probably under the ignorant assumption that all nuclear weapons the US possess are the large ones in ground silos). Nor does the United States Government take lightly the security of those weapons.

Any naval veteran that has served on such ships as air craft carriers (I myself served on a battle ship but not an air craft carrier) will be familiar with the "exclusion areas" Marines at time set up.

But since you claim to be so knowledgable about security issues related to the nuclear weapons facilities I'm sure you can present us with an articulate post as to how security operations run, and the relative "lax" nature you suppose that field to be.

By the way, in a failure to stop shooting of a "tango," as prescribed in the norms of Marine Corps Security Forces of the early 1990's, you can tell me where those shots lie and how they differ from a "double tap"?

Não tenho razões para gostar do sr. Cláudio Lembo. No dia em que lhe fui apresentado – um encontro a que compareci na esperança vã de obter seu apoio para projetos culturais que teriam podido, talvez, desviar um pouco o Brasil do rumo de uma tragédia anunciada --, ele aproveitou a ocasião para fazer bonito ante uns esquerdinhas presentes, rotulando-me ultradireitista e recomendando-me a leitura da Bíblia para aplacar meus maus instintos políticos. Nada respondi. Limitei-me a tirar do bolso o velho exemplar do Novo Testamento e dos Salmos que me acompanha há anos, para mostrar que não tinha lições de religião a receber de um deplorável puxa-saco de seus próprios detratores.

No entanto, não posso assistir calado ao esforço geral da mídia para lançar sobre ele a culpa integral da desgraça ocorrida em São Paulo. Não se trata apenas de injustiça. É uma operação diversionista, calculada para ocultar da opinião pública os verdadeiros agentes causadores do episódio, cujas identidades, sem isso, saltariam aos olhos de todos, por ser demasiado óbvias. Para enxergá-las, basta juntar os fatos:

1º. Os bandidos rebelados confessaram ter recebido ajuda e treinamento do MST, entidade estreitamente associada à camarilha petista dominante e que por sua vez recebeu as mesmas coisas de outra organização amiga do governo, a narcoguerrilha colombiana.

2º. O presidente da República é pessoalmente responsável pela presença, nas ruas, dos doze mil delinqüentes que espalharam o terror e a morte entre a população paulista. Não tem sentido acusar o governo estadual de estar despreparado para a situação e ao mesmo tempo inocentar o governo federal que a gerou. Ao soltar os bandidos, sabendo que mantinham contato telefônico com seus chefes presos e que estavam preparados para ações terroristas de grande porte, a Presidência da República petista ateou fogo num Estado da Federação e ainda se aproveita das chamas para queimar nelas a rep**ação de um miúdo adversário local.

3º. É absolutamente inconcebível que uma operação de guerra de proporções colossais, envolvendo três entidades subversivas da importância do PCC, do MST e das Farc, fosse preparada sem que alguma notícia a respeito chegasse à coordenação estratégica da esquerda continental, o Foro de São Paulo, cujo fundador e presidente crônico, em licença temporária, é mais conhecido hoje em dia como presidente do Brasil mas jamais cessou de trabalhar por essa organização.

Como a única ocupação da mídia chique deste país, há quinze anos, tem sido ocultar ou minimizar a realidade para manter o povo sob o controle da gangue esquerdista a despeito de todas as intrigas internas que a dividem, a missão foi cumprida mais uma vez. Mas agora a realidade é grande e sangrenta demais para desaparecer por artes mágicas de copy-desk. Um ataque assassino de características nitidamente insurrecionais foi desencadeado com a cumplicidade direta ou indireta da Presidência da República, se não sob a sua orientação. Não há, no fundo, quem não saiba disso. Mesmo o cérebro de uma população entorpecida por décadas de “revolução cultural” não consegue cegar-se de todo para tamanha obviedade.

Isso não quer dizer, é claro, que o conhecimento público dos fatos trará algum dano a seus autores. Num país civilizado, qualquer ligação mesmo remota de um presidente da República com os autores daquela barbaridade implicaria sua imediata remoção do cargo e sua responsabilização penal. Mas o Brasil já foi domado e adestrado para responder com sorrisos de adulação a todos os insultos e agressões que venham de fonte ideologicamente aprovada. O país vai curvar-se, com servilismo boçal, a mais esta imposição cínica das elites iluminadas que o guiam infalivelmente para o abismo.

Quanto ao sr. Lembo, está sendo feito de bode expiatório porque tem a sonsice e até o physique de rôle apropriados para isso. Não entende o que se passa, nem sabe a quem serve com o grotesco espetáculo da sua impotência. É um bobo, mas não é culpado senão disso.

I have experienced this through the close friends i have that are from this area of Brasil, as well as my own experience in the country... When is this going to change? How is it going to change? I think you are going though a kind of culture shock. realizing the rest of the world does not have the organizational skills of the place you are from. What is there to do? If Brazilians don't organize to solve the problem. Calling everybody americans and appealing to solidarity won't work. Many Brazilians will get upset that you do. You can't let it bother you, or even try to figure it out. Brazil has to figure it out or choose not to figure it out, what ever, but if you judge the fact that nothing is being done by logical and rational standards you will drive yourself insane.

Checking the internet, it appears the US State Department is not listing the KKK or white supremacist orginistaions on their list of terrorist orginizations. However it also appears the State Department and FBI have reshaped some of their former anti and counter terrorist structures at various time not excluding the 9-11 attacks.

So as of 1990 and 1993 - during those time periods in Marine Security Forces - I stand by my statement and words that the KKK and other white supremacist orginizations were listed (as we taught in Security Forces school at least) as a terrorist orginization and an "enemy of the United States Government."

In fact MIPT which recieves funding from Home Land Security, in its Terrorism Knowledge Base (www.tkb.org) says of the KKK: "Klan members often attempt to defend their lifestyle with violence and terrorist intimidation."

TKB says of the Aryan Nations: "The RAND Institute describes Aryan Nations as the 'First truely nation wide terrorist network.' The Extent of Child Abuse in America

More than 2.5 million cases of child abuse and neglect are reported in the U.S. each year. The true number is probably much larger as all types of child abuse and neglect tend to be underreported.

The American Academy of Pediatrics reports that:

* One in four girls and one in eight boys will be sexually abused before they reach the age of 18.

* One in 20 children is physically abused each year.

* Half of all child abuse falls into the category of neglect.

What is Abuse?

Physical abuse - inflicting physical injury by punching, beating, kicking, biting, burning, shaking, or otherwise physically harming a child

Child neglect - failure to provide a child's basic needs physically, emotionally, educationally, and medically

Sexual abuse - includes fondling children's genitals, intercourse, incest, rape, sodomy, exhibitionism, commercial exploitation through prostitution, or producing pornographic materials

Emotional abuse - acts or lack of attention by parents or other caregivers that results in behavioral, cognitive, emotional, or mental disorders
Recognizing Abuse and Neglect

It can be difficult to recognize abuse and even more difficult to determine what to do about it. Children are often reluctant to tell anybody if they are being abused because they think they will be blamed or not believed. Parents tend to overlook symptoms because it is uncomfortable to talk about.

The longer a child is abused or neglected, the deeper the trauma, and the less likely there will be a full emotional recovery.

Many behaviors can indicate possible abuse or neglect. In many cases the behaviors could be caused by other situations. This list doesn't guarantee that the cause is abuse, but be alert to unexplainable changes such as:

* Injuries, bruises, factures, or head or abdominal injuries that cannot be explained

* Fearful behavior such as nightmares, depression, or attempts to run away

* Abdominal pain, bedwetting, urinary tract infections, genital pain or bleeding, or sexually transmitted diseases

* Extreme sexual behaviors (acting out) that are inappropriate for the child's age

* Desperately affectionate behavior or need for approval

* Overeating and stealing food

When to Call for Help

If you suspect your child or another child has been abused or seriously neglected you should call your pediatrician or a child protective agency. Provide the information you have and they will follow-up.

Doctors are legally required to report cases of abuse. Child protection agencies can provide shelter and care for abused children. Mental health professionals are often involved to help children cope with and overcome past emotional trauma caused by abuse or neglect. Some communities have Child Abuse Hotlines - you can often call anonymously.

I cede you have a valid point about the KKK being unlikely *to use* a nuke in inside the United States. You also have a point that modern KKK would be unlikely to attempt theft of a nuclear weapon as oppossed to say Al Qaida. That I don't deny. Nor would I or have attempted to infer that was the case.

However you are missing something here, there are millions of orginizations in the United States and around the world. I can only *assume* when Federal or private security firms assess what orginizations are they deem of higher risk to steal a nuclear weapon they would place the American KKK above the United States Boy Scouts asssociation, or a cancer surviors network, or Alcoholics Anonymous.

When tasked with the mission of protection of nuclear weapons those overseeing the entire mission scope do not have the luxury of laughing and discounting white supremacist orginizations like the KKK from attempting theft.

There is a particular phrase that is - or at least was often used when I was in - it was "need to know" or rather "on a need to know basis."

As security personel we did not need to know if there was ever actually any nuclear weapons aboard ship or at a particular facility. That was not deemed "need to know information" for us.

However when searching the person(s) or vechicles of private contractors, if by chance we would for some reason see a white supremacist tattoo on some area of their body that became exposed, this could green light us to a possibility that the person or person(s) trying to gain access to the compound are there for dubious reasons. In this sense Security Forces School may have charged to train us to look out for white supremacist like the KKK, being deemed "need to know" information.

My primary MOS was 0311 (basic rifleman - a grunt in otherwords), but I had a secondary MOS, it was 8151 (if my memory serves me correct: the # classification that is) which is Security Forces. I went to Security Forces school after I finished the School of Infantry (SOI). I would eventually get posted at two different duty stations while In Security Forces. I'm very pleased in the training I recieved because not only did I get trained well in the pistol and shotgun, but I also learned to think more in a security mindset I guess you could say. For instance in Security Forces we were taught to consider anyone who sympatizes with a terrorist group as one element in that pyramid of network. (whether one believes that is just or not that's how we were taught to think. - basicly think more broadly)

The reason I bring that up is because, while it was never "need to know information" for me to know the conjectures of the FBI, I will role the dice and say - in answer to your question why would and what would the KKK do with a stolen nuke? - *use* of a nuclear weapon does not have to be a motivation in theft. If one can have bargining power by taking 1 or 10 people hostage, one can imagine the bargining power one holds if they aquire and hold a nuclear weapon "hostage" and claiming to have the ability to detonate it. There exists also the potential of orginizations hostel to the United States Government (such as white supremacist groups) being *contracted* by another group to steal and deliver a nuclear weapon.


This is all getting off topic and that's going to be the last I'm posting the US and KKK and Security Forces in this thread.

My orgininal point in the beginning was just that the PCC in my opinion could be justly considered a terrorist orginization in Brazil. The commission includes representatives of the federal government, the legislature, civil society, and international agencies. According to the federal government, the work of the commission resulted in an increase in the number of incidents investigated by the Federal Police and the creation of a Public Defense Ministry task force in each state in Brazil.

"At present the policy to combat sexual exploitation has countrywide coverage," Mamede affirms.

Among other activities, Mamede cites the Program of Integrated Referential Activities for the Confrontation of Sexual Abuse of Children and Adolescents (PAIR). One of the objectives of this program is to develop studies to analyze the situation of sexual abuse of children and adolescents.

Brazilian laws provide for severe punishment in cases of abuse, violence and sexual exploitation involving children and adolescents.

The Statute for Children and Adolescents also considers it a crime to present, produce, sell, disseminate, or publish photographs or images of pornography or explicit sex via any vehicle of communication, including the Internet, or to submit a child or adolescent to sexual exploitation.

According to the Brazilian Report, young girls are sexually exploited in mining zones, major urban centers, and by so-called sexual tourism.

For example, Brazil ratified the International Labor Organization's (ILO) Convention 182, which combats sexual exploitation for commercial gain and determines that adolescents cannot be submitted to hard or degrading labor.

In 2003 the National Congress formed a Joint Parliamentary Investigative Commission (CPMI) to investigate rings involved in the sexual exploitation of children and adolescents. The CPMI visited 22 states.

The cases that were investigated indicate the existence of serious forms of exploitation and prostitution rings, domestic and international trafficking rings, rings of sexual tourism to attract foreign tourists, and sexual violence and abuse involving adolescents with deficiencies and practiced in circles frequented by members of economic and political elites.

Dawood Ibrahim is or was the Godfather of one of the major branches of orginized crime in India. His branch had Christian, Hindu, and Muslim members but it was as cultural base and at top a Muslim orginization. His major rival was a Hindu orginized crime group in India. Dawood's branch would be known as "D-Company." Dawood Ibrahim for years - having fled India - ran his D-Company in India from out of Pakistan by phone and other means.

I found this interesting in Suketu Mehta's book "Maximum City" in the *Afterword*:

I thought that was interesting because I believe it demonstrates how a criminal kingpin can terrorize millions of people (especially in Mumbai - formerly known as Bombay - a city of something like 23 million people) through extortion intimidation in a country far away from the US, yet once the *government* of the US interests, finacial or otherwise, become threatened, the US Government will not hesitate to classify that "criminal" a "terrorist."

Dawood operated as a *sympathizer* (by sharing his smuggling routes) and perhaps even financial benefactor to Al Qaida (so the US Government says). Similar to how I stated US Marine Security Forces trains its Marines to view *even sympathizers* of terrorist orginizations as part of the pyramid in the terrorist network.

To me, I also feel this shows, the US Government would not have hesitated in classifying the PCC, after their daring attacks on local and federal police and sinking the national stock market and worth of national money, a "terrorist orginization."

I know it maybe on a different scale but I watched a programme on UK satellite TV yesterday about 2 criminals, who after robbing a band, held over 300 police at bay with two AK47s. This happened in North Hollywood USA.

If ‘criminals’ are intent on causing mayhem there is very little anyone can do other than ‘try’ appropriate tactics. Decisions are made on the ground and are best left to the ‘professionals’ and not the politicians.

The events in Sao Paulo were not acts of terrorism but ‘gangsters’ out of control. The drug gangs control the favelas and as such can do what they want. It maybe that the PPP had some internals struggles as well.

The fact that the violence was organised from within the prisons is worrying though not surprising in Brazil.

I cannot offer any easy answers to prevent this happening again, the police approach may have been to send a definite signal to any one who is involved in the gangs that they will be lucky to even make prison if caught, the ultimate fear. Nos últimos dias graves acontecimentos denunciam o resultado mais evidente dos dois anos de mandato do governo Lula e da coalizão dirigida pelo PT: vem se fortalecendo no regime político brasileiro a impunidade e a repressão política, em particular a violência contra os movimento sociais, a corrupção e o fisiologismo e, como parte desta realidade, o caráter fraudulento desta chamada democracia, totalmente falsa e enganosa, cada vez mais uma democracia para os ricos e estelionato contra os pobres.

O covarde assassinato da missionária estadunidense-brasileira, além da execução de dois sindicalistas rurais, todos crimes perpetrados pelos latifundiários do Pará, o assassinato e a também covarde e vergonhosa repressão política contra homens, mulheres, idosos e crianças que legitimamente construíram suas casas num terreno antes utilizado para especulação imobiliária na cidade de Goiânia, desta vez a mando da justiça de Goiás e executado pela Brigada Militar deste Estado, e as eleições para presidência da Câmara e do Senado são provas incontestáveis do que denunciamos.

O assassinato da missionária Dorothy Stang foi o primeiro capítulo da vergonha destes últimos dias. Sua morte mostrou a impunidade reinante no Brasil, com destaque do Pará. O governo Lula, como fez o governo Sarney depois do assassinato de Chico Mendes, em 1988, e como fez Fernando Henrique depois da chacina de Eldorado dos Carajás, promete punição rigorosa, mas fazia mais de um ano que era alertado pela própria missionária para a situação dramática da região de Anapu. Não fez nada. Pior, cedia as terras da União para a exploração dos latifundiários. Agora, depois da morte, o governo enfrenta os crimes no campo com palavras e mais palavras, ou seja, permite que a vergonha e os massacres continuem.

Por trás da omissão que carrega a cumplicidade, está a política agrária do governo federal - também do governo estadual do Pará - e suas alianças com o latifúndio. Como disse Pedro Casaldáliga, bispo de São Félix do Araguaia (MT), comentando o assassinato da missionária Dorothy Stang, "(o governo não faz) a reforma agrária porque está jogando a favor do agronegócio, do latifúndio, das madeireiras, das mineradoras e das multinacionais (...). Pensa-se no FMI, na dívida externa e no paraíso das exportações e quer-se o lucro imediato. Deveria atender, muito antes da dívida externa, a dívida nacional com gente que passa fome e tem sofrido cada vez mais a conseqüência da política agressiva dos agronegócios contra o ambiente".

Enquanto isso, quando ainda os trabalhadores rurais amigos de Dorothy não tinham sequer secado suas lágrimas, anônimos lutadores sem teto, eram assassinados pela policia militar de Goiás, numa violentíssima ação de despejo de 12000 pessoas que ocupavam uma área no Parque Oeste Industrial em Goiânia.

O governo federal mais uma vez foi omisso, deixando uma tragédia anunciada ocorrer na mesma semana em que se dizia consternado com a morte da missionária (prova de seu cinismo), se limitando a despachar para Goiânia seu secretário de Direitos Humanos depois das mortes e da repressão.

Como no caso de Dorothy, o governo, na pessoa de Nilmário Miranda, foi avisado da tragédia iminente pelo vereador do P-SOL Elias Vaz, pela Dep**ado Federal do P-SOL Luciana Genro, o Dep**ado Estadual Mauro Rubem do PT, e por uma comissão de moradores da área ocupada, que se reuniram com ele um dia antes dos assassinatos. Desta vez, porém, os assassinatos foram cometidos sob a justificativa de reintegração de posse de uma área que antes de servir para a moradia de 12 mil pessoas servia apenas para a especulação imobiliária. A mesma justiça não tem esta determinação para enfrentar a ocupação ilegal dos latifundiários do Pará que mataram Dorothy. É a justiça dos ricos, novamente do lado dos latifundiários e grandes proprietários, atuando apenas contra as ocupações legítimas impulsionadas pelo direito elementar e constitucional à moradia.

A operação militar de Goiânia, com a utilização de mais de 2500 policiais militares, a maior operação policial da história de Goiás, resultou em dois mortos - até o momento - dezenas de trabalhadores feridos, alguns em estado grave - e centenas de presos, entre eles mulheres e idosos. As imagens mostravam os trabalhadores sendo mal tratados como os presos comuns são tratados durante a derrota de suas rebeliões nos cárceres imundos e superlotados Brasil afora.

Assim, o governo federal que diz saber negociar com os movimentos sociais fez vistas grossas ao massacre de Goiânia, sendo, portanto, co-responsável pelas mortes e pela covarde e brutal repressão.

No caso de Goiás, sua responsabilidade é compartilhada pelo governo municipal de Íris Resende (PMDB), que até as eleições de outubro último prometia defender os moradores, e agora, como prefeito, se recusa a desapropriar a área. Mas grave foi a atitude de Marconi Perillo governador do PSDB, que no período eleitoral passado, reuniu-se no palácio com 300 moradores da ocupação e garantiu-lhes que:

"O prefeito, nós, o secretário de planejamento da prefeitura, pedimos a eles agilizar as providências no nosso encontro com o proprietário, porque o proprietário deve quase 2 milhões de IPTU. E eu falei com o prefeito Pedro Wilson ontem, e pedi ao prefeito que tomasse as providências, que ele mesmo desapropriasse. Quem tem que desapropriar é a prefeitura. O que eu tenho que fazer nessa hora, aqui, agora, é garantir que eu não vou mandar a polícia. Se for algum policial lá, algum comandante lá, vai ser demitido. Eu não aceito. Vai ser demitido. Certo? Então, essa é uma decisão que está tomada. Agora, a desapropriação tem que ser feita pela prefeitura. Se precisar de mim, se vocês precisar de mim pra ajudar na desapropriação, eu ajudo. Mas cês sabem que é a prefeitura que tem que fazer a desapropriação. Depois que desapropriar... mas com relação a vocês eu já tomei uma decisão: Eu não vou cumprir a ordem judicial.."



O regime político dos tucanos, do PMDB e do PT, reserva apenas violência e miséria para o povo.


Finalmente, na semana de tantas tragédias e sofrimentos para os de baixo, o Congresso Nacional parecia mais uma corte do que uma casa de representação do povo. E realmente, de representante do povo o Congresso Nacional tem pouco, muito pouco, quase nada. Com raras e honrosas exceções, os parlamentares representam o latifúndio, os bancos, os grandes empresários, uma casa repleta de políticos vigaristas e corruptos.

A eleição de Renan Calheiros e de Severino Cavalcanti, corresponde fielmente a composição das duas casas e reflete o caráter da base aliada de sustentação do governo Lula. Renan, antigo e fiel aliado de Collor, agora íntimo de Lula e de José Dirceu. Severino, fez carreira durante a ditadura militar e se especializou na defesa dos privilégios dos parlamentares, sempre fiel, diga-se de passagem, a todas as propostas apresentadas pelo governo Lula, assim como foi fiel a Fernando Henrique, fiel a Sarney, a Collor, fiel a João Figueiredo e a todos os governos do ciclo ditatorial. È uma vergonha que ambos tenham sido eleito? Não resta dúvida. Mas o candidato do governo, o dep**ado Greenhalgh, tampouco merecia ganhar. Ele que um dia questionou o latifúndio e hoje, em troca de um mísero cargo, elogia o agronegócio e contemporiza com o trabalho escravo; um dia defendeu presos políticos e hoje diz amém ao governo que deixa correr o sangue dos trabalhadores no campo e nas cidades, como no Pará e em Goiás.

Severino ganhou porque o Congresso Nacional votou por um presidente que seja o mais autêntico possível a expressão dos interesses da maioria dos dep**ados. A maioria dos parlamentares votou no original, descartando a cópia mais recente apresentada pela turma Petista do toma lá dá cá e do vale tudo da política das classes dominantes.

Por último, queremos registrar que o governo do PT contribui para reforçar as piores características do regime político brasileiro: O culto aos intocáveis privilégios dos magnatas dos latifundiários e dos banqueiros, os assassinatos dos lutadores do campo e da cidade, a impunidade, o fisiologismo e a corrupção, aumentando a crise social e o fosso entre representantes e representados.

O P-SOL conclama a mais ampla unidade de todas as forças sociais e políticas que queiram dar um basta a este regime de corrupção, de impunidade, de miséria e de submissão aos interesses do grande capital e do imperialismo para impulsionar uma ampla campanha nacional e internacional em defesa dos trabalhadores brasileiros contra a perseguição aos lutadores do povo, pela rigorosa apuração e punição dos responsáveis pelos assassinatos ocorridos no Pará e em Goiânia, pela imediata libertação dos lideres e militantes sem tetos presos.

I am the bleeding heart, pinko liberal. It is true I have never lived in Brazil and even if I had done would probably still look at the situation through ‘gringo’ eyes. I do have connections with Brazil so am not totally detached.

I did not pretend in my post that the solutions were easy, though what happened is not the publicity Brazil needs, and the last thing it needs are police death squads, though I sympathise with the posters who say not to confuse the criminals with most of the favela dwellers, this was an over simplification on my part.

Brazil has its social problems that I can easily talk about from the UK, we have our own problems here with gangs and terrorism, and it is from forums like these that I try to understand.

I know that it is worrying and frustrating for Brazilians to see the levels of violence and the virtual inactivity of the authorities to act. The problem may be that they are damned if the do and damned if they don’t.

Apesar do frio, Maurício Assis de Menezes veste apenas calça jeans e camisa azul. São 2 horas da madrugada de terça-feira, dia 16, no centro do Capão Redondo, Zona Sul de São Paulo. Acompanhado de seis colegas, o jovem de 28 anos abre o portão do bar de sua família - onde trabalha - para desenroscar as lâmpadas que iluminam a lanchonete, também familiar, que fica bem em frente ao bar.
Maurício mal tem tempo de chegar à barraca de lanches quando ouve: "Mãos na cabeça. Polícia!" Em seguida, começam os tiros. Sem expressar reação, enfileirados e de costas, todos são metralhados por homens vestidos de roupas escuras e gorro.
Horas antes, ainda na tarde de segunda-feira, mesmo após ouvir as notícias da televisão sobre os ataques da organização criminosa Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC) em toda a cidade, a família Assis de Menezes não tem medo. Mantém o seu comércio aberto. Acreditam que como o alvo da polícia são os criminosos do PCC, não terão problemas. "A gente confiava na polícia", diz o pai de Maurício, com uma foto da família nas mãos.
Por volta das 23 horas, o que chama a atenção dos donos e freqüentadores do bar é um carro Fiat Palio preto com vidros fumé, que passa levando homens com capuzes. O carro passa vagarosamente em frente ao estabelecimento, junto com três carros da Polícia Civil, dois deles da marca Blazer. Marcos*, um dos irmãos de Maurício que também trabalha no bar da família, ao ver o carro suspeito, vira-se para os colegas e brinca: "Tá vendo esse carro preto aí atrás? É só para matar".
Portas fechadas
Assustados, os irmãos resolvem fechar o bar, mas os clientes, com medo, não tem coragem de ir embora e resolvem ficar mais tempo dentro do estabelecimento, já com as portas fechadas. Cerca de três horas depois, os clientes resolvem voltar para casa, e Maurício lembra que deixou as luzes da barraca acesa. Junto com ele, está Edson, funcionário da lanchonete, que trabalha há cinco anos para a família. Antes de ser assassinado, o jovem de 22 anos coloca em cima do balcão da barraca dois sanduíches que levaria para casa.
De dentro do bar, Marcos ouve "Mãos na cabeça. Polícia!". Olha pela janela e vê quatro homens. Desce correndo para dar assistência ao irmão e explicar que “são todos trabalhadores”, mas é tarde demais. Os tiros já haviam começado. “Acho que foram mais de 30”. Imediatamente, vai novamente à janela. Os agressores não estão mais lá.
Pedidos de ajuda
“Desci para procurar meu irmão. Todos meus amigos me pedindo ajuda: 'me ajuda, tá doendo demais'. O Edson dizia: 'tá doendo demais, não me deixa morrer'. Todo mundo gemendo. O Renato tentava levantar e pedia ajuda. Meu desespero era procurar meu irmão”, conta Marcos, que encontrou Maurício já morto atrás da barraca.
Marcos conta que em menos de dois minutos, 12 viaturas do 37º Batalhão da Polícia Militar chegaram no local. “Chegaram socorrendo e começaram a recolher as cápsulas. Foi tudo muito rápido”. De acordo com a lei, quando há vítimas fatais, a polícia não pode alterar a cena do crime, mas deve aguardar a chegada da polícia científica para dar início à perícia. O procedimento, entretanto, não foi observado neste caso. De acordo com Marcos, também não foi colhido nenhum depoimento no local.
Em conversa com o irmão de Maurício, os policiais militares disseram que o ataque poderia ter sido feito por criminosos do PCC. No entanto, as testemunhas duvidam. “Se eles eram do PCC, como o Palio preto ia estar logo atrás dos carros da Polícia Civil? A não ser que eles fossem loucos”, ironiza. Ainda de acordo com testemunhas, durante a chacina, o Palio preto estava estacionado próximo ao local do crime, e os carros da Polícia Civil um pouco mais à frente, mas na mesma rua.
Na manhã seguinte, policiais do Departamento de Homicídios e Proteção à Pessoa (DHPP) foram ao local do crime. Dos sete moradores que foram atacados, cinco morreram e dois sobreviveram. Questionados pela reportagem do Brasil de Fato, a assessoria de imprensa da Secretaria de Segurança Pública afirmou que a chacina ocorrida no Capão Redondo não entrou para as estatísticas ligadas às ações do PCC ou da polícia. Foi considerada como um crime comum na cidade de São Paulo. A secretaria disse informou que um inquérito foi aberto no DHPP, mas que, para resguardar as investigações, não se pode informar qual o seu andamento. A Secretaria ainda afirmou que em casos como este, testemunhas devem fazer a denúncia na Ouvidoria da Polícia.



Mortes sem explicações
Reportagem da Folha de S. Paulo, do dia 21, mostrou que os casos de mortes à bala diretamente relacionados com a onda de violência desencadeada pelo PCC na semana passada em todo o Estado foi de 138 mortes.
Somando-se o número médio de mortes que a capital e Grande São Paulo apresentam em 5 dias, 65 mortes, “sobrariam” 69 mortes a serem esclarecidas pelo governo. O fato, entretanto, entra em contradição com declarações feitas pelo comandante-geral da Polícia Militar de São Paulo, Elizeu Eclair Teixeira de Borges.
Segundo ele, a criminalidade rotineira, sem ligação com o PCC, havia caído cerca de 50% desde que começou a onda de atentados. Borges ainda afirmou que nenhum dos mortos em confronto com a polícia desde o início dos ataques do PCC era inocente.
De acordo com familiares, amigos e testemunhas, nenhuma das vítimas da chacina do Capão Redondo tinha relações com o PCC, nem passagem pela polícia. Os familiares de Maurício e testemunhas não souberam informar o nome completo das outras vítimas fatais.
