Brazilians are having more contact with the Arab culture in recent years, especially with regard to books translated directly from Arabic into Portuguese. Who says that is Milton Hatoum, a writer from the northern Brazilian state of Amazonas, who is of Lebanese descent, and is the author of "Ashes of the Amazon", his novel that won this year's Jabuti Award, the most traditional Brazilian literature prize.
