Brazil's ethanol distillery Thirty years ago, when one liter of ethanol was worth three times more than one liter of gasoline, most nations would not have considered investing in it as a biofuel. But Brazil took this path, and now produces the cheapest ethanol in the world.

"The facility is expected to produce 150 million tons of sugar, 50 million liters "
written by ch.c., December 13, 2007
Doesnt smell right !!!!!!
Not ONE country, not even Brazil is producing 150 millions tons of sugar.
Thus even more doubrful that 1 facillity ALONE will produce so much.

Ohhhhhh....and NOT a single facility can use 150 millions tons of SUGARCANE, NOT EVEN THE BRAZILIAN LARGEST.
Because it would mean Brazil needs ONLY 4 facilities, since you are producing around 525 millions tons........OF SUGARCANE (NOT SUGAR) !!!!

QUITE s**tTY AND CONFUSING BRAZILIANS MEGALOMANIA OR......CHEAP AND WRONG INFORMATION......BRAZILIAN STYLE.....AS USUAL !!!!

A better option for Angola.

She said the following on her article: “In Angola, Angolan and Brazilian oil companies are to build a facility to produce sugar, bioenergy and ethanol from sugarcane. The facility is expected to produce 150 million tons of sugar, 50 million liters of alcohol and 140 megawatts electricity per year.”

In my opinion, that would be a major mistake to develop sugar cane and ethanol industry in Angola.

The Angolan government should reevaluate their agricultural program and try to kill the project related to sugar cane to be used to make ethanol.

I did work closely with the Angolan government about 15 years ago and I even prepared an economic development plan for that country at that time.

Most people it doesn’t know that, but Angola can grow the highest quality of coffee of any country around the world. Before Angola exploded into a civil war they used to produce the best coffee from all the coffee producers from around the world.

With global demand for food products increasing in the next few decades Angola should concentrate in producing the best coffee in the world – and they can demand top dollar for their high quality coffee.

A very good point you are making. I am very skeptical about the economy of a country depending only on Ethanol. We have discussed about this amply before.

I did not know about it and thanks for the info. In one of his posts, Ch.c told us that in Haiti, 1 in 6 of the Haitians depends on the coffee based economy. From what I read about Kenyan coffee, you both make lots of sense. We three seem to have some thing common on this issue of our trying to base our economy based on Ethanol.

I learned about Angola coffee from my good friend who used to be president of Mesbla Trading here in New York when I was the controller and treasurer of that companhia.

Before he worked for Mesbla he had worked for many years in the international coffee trade and he used to go to Angola on a regular basis to buy their coffee. He used to travel all over the world and he knew very well the international coffee market.

A lot people think that Brazilian or Colombian coffee are among the best in the world, but I was surprised when I learned that Angola produce the best coffee that anyone can get anywhere.

The problem that Angola has about bringing back to production all that great coffee is that the fields in Angola are full of mines from the Angolan civil war. It will take a long time for the Angolan government to clean the fields from millions of mines that they used during the war.

Colombian coffee was all the time, the best in quality. Because they are high altitude planted. And Brazil was all the time the biggest producer, but doesn´t mean that was the best coffee! Now in the State of Espírito Santo and Minas..we are making different variety. In the Serras.. where the altitude is 720 to 900 mts.the cost per Ha. R$2.800,00 to R$ 4. 700,00. 41% services and 59% insumes. And we are milagrous people. And I read some jurk..telling that we have subsidium smilies/cry.gif

No problem .I was not offended.Just wanted to twist your ears! We need more Brazilian bloggers on this site and I think you are a welcome addition.

What do you think of the Senate voting to reject the bill proposing to extend the CPMF for 4 more years? The lady senator from your state Dª Marisa Serrano voted "Não" to CPMF. I suggest you read the article in this site titled "Brazilians Get Rid of Temporary Tax on Checks that Lasted 14 Years". You can access to it through:

Based on what Eduardo c, Ch.c and you say, it does open up another great opportunity for Brazil. Does it not? Cash crop, my friend.
