Recently read F W Engdahl's Seeds of Destruction: The Hidden Agenda of Genetic Manipulation, which touches on the nefarious motives of the likes of Monsanto. Very scary stuff. I learnt from his book the same sort of people behind companies like Monsanto were responsible for sterilising many Brazilian women of childbearing age during the 1980s under the aegis of USAID. It ought to be noted that Kissinger's NSSM 200 has never been repudiated as US policy. The eugenecists are alive and well, never having really gone away. Scary stuff.

There was a protest yesterday in front of the BNDES building in Rio by the MST. Of course 90% of the picketers looked like they had never seen the countryside in thier life. Such a scam that organization is. I'm not saying that the big AG. companies aren't doing shady things, but anyone who doesn't also see the alterior motives of most of the members of the MST is blind. People don't need land they need education, health, security (including tranparent and fair property laws), and less government beauraucracy(sp?). The land disequality is only a symptom of a larger problem of an unjust society. Giving a bunch of Dumbasses who don't know how to farm a piece of already productive land for them to destroy is only going to make the country poorer.

You are absolutely correct.
"the act was to protest the Brazilian government's decision in February to legalize Monsanto's GM Guardian corn"
written by ch.c., March 28, 2008
- The Guardian corn has certainly no relation with Syngents !
- If you dont like a product, just manifest against the ones who legalized it !

Of course you are all against GMO seeds, but then caress your navel when your exports of GMO products rise !
Brazilian UNCOMMON SENSE...as usual !

No doubt the MST has the government blessings to destroy what belongs to foreigners....BUT NO SO.....TO EMBRAPA GMO BELONGINGS !!!!!

and to Joao last comment" You are absolutely correct." is certainly just his contradictions of his first comments " It is the beginning of a never ending war against Monsanto and Syngenta. We will fight them on the land, sea and in the air until they surrender (unconditionally of course)!!!!!!

Lets face it...without John Deere, ADM, Montsanto, Syngenta just to name a few.....but ALL foreign companies.....your grains production would simply.....COLLAPSE !

you have NOOO technology, NOOOOO know how, NOOOOOO expertise, and NOOOOO will to make the corresponding R&D investments.

Ohhh by the way....your car and trucks industry is NOOOO different ! 100 % are foreign companies, nice enough to provide well above average salaries !!!!
but of course these are the onesyou criticize too !

In my view foreign companies should better quit Brazil and redeploy more to Asia.there they appreciate....NEW INVESTMENTS....and welcome foreigners.

Brazilians are simply obsessed with their....NAVEL !!!!!!!!!!!

Stupid question : what are you going to export...if your grain production is cut in half ?
In my view you are going to continue to export and let your poors more hungry than they are today !
Because your export obsession is stronger than feeding your society first.
Even a devalued US$ is ok as long as it is shared within a minority of your large farmers.

Enjoy your muddy Tropical Hell !!!!!!!

Thanks for the detailed historical detail within this article. Understanding the conflict which GM products have, especially when it comes to foreign relations and health matters, is really important. This topic is one that needs to be brought to greater levels of awareness among Americans.
