Plantation of sugarcane in BrazilU.S.-Brazil tension, a relatively recent development, resurfaced during the UN World Food Summit in Rome on June 3-5, encouraging the booming Brazilian sugar-based ethanol market to increase its new development projects. This rift represents a de facto counter move against the far less-efficient U.S. model predicated on corn-based ethanol production.

Brazil subsidizes its farmers through the BNDES at much lower rates the government borrows that money ......but Brazil is doing right....of course !

Brazil subsidizes heavily its coffee industry....to be more competitive than Vietnam and the others producing nations.

Of course Brazil is right to subsidize...and others are obviously wrong !!!! Further strange subsidizes when developed nations are NOT even producing coffee !!!!

And of course Brazil is right to have a much higher overall import tax rate...than developed nations. And Brazil is right....to have more rights.....than developed nations !!!!

Facts are relatively simple : Brazil remains a BACKWARD COUNTRY....with their US$ 1000.- exports...per capita !

And if ethanol is finally competitive....why dont other emerging nations RUSH TO BUY FAR MORE BRAZILIAN ETHANOL....INSTEAD OF IMPORTING OIL ?????
Why is Brazil obsessed for exporting ethanol mainly to developed nations ?????
Yesss....if so competitive, China, African countries, many Asian countries.......should queue at your doors.....to BUY BUY BUY BUY BUY BUY.....Brazilian ethanol !
You should question yourselves why NEITHER developed NOR developing nations are queuing to buy your so competitive ethanol....cheaper than gasoline !!!
You insisted and promised that Brazilian ethanol was competitive in 2005 when oil was at below US$ 50.- !
Today at oil US$ 145.- your ethanol price is lower than when oil was at US$ 50.-......and no one wants your filthy products !!!
Simply because you are manipulating numbers in stats and taking others for idiots when in fact the liars, cheaters and hidders are the Brazilians !!!!!

In my view COHA is fully financed by Bin the Crook.....using a Caïxa 2 or 3 as during the vote buying scandal !

With the appointment of strong conservationists such as the Minister of Environment, Carlos Minc, a UN awarded defender of the environment,

I did not know that Minc got an award for defending the environment. He must be pretty good to be recognized by UN for his tireless efforts to make our planet a safer place to live in.Keep up the good work, Dr.Minc.

who is sick now is the united states. its leaders have tanked the country.the total denial of the damage of a low dollar and the ridiculas oil prices , are affecting the average american on a daily basis.the ridiculas war is draining the life blood out of the united states.

you can flaunt statistics and spin them anyway one wants, but, americans are suffering right now, from a low dollar and high oil prices , and, deep self denial

this article shows clearly how food and oil lobbies are controling important desicians that could really help the country.

what is most frustrating is that solutions are at hand , but, ignorance is getting in the way. the united states ought to really make an effort to cozy up to brazil and open up the sugar ethanal market on mass, and, get in on partnering with brazil with the new oil discoveries.

it would be much better to deal with brazil than chavez or the middle east. but, it would have to be with trade deals and policies that also help the brazilian people instead of just dealing with big corporations.

instead of bullying, manipulating, forcing issues, the united states ought to really make the effort to win back brazilians confidence to do some really big and great business that could get the sick united states back to health and prosperity.these are real solutions that could work, but, not with food and oil lobbies manipulating desicians for the rich and not for the people...

yeah, and, this subsidy thing is a two way street.if they are going to open up food subsidies they have to open up electronic subsidies the other way also

and, its ridiculas blaming the usa for food costs rising around the world. the rise in demand for food in coutnries like china and india have as much to do with it as anything. the food inflation started kicking into gear long before the ethanal question was raised about corn.
