Last October's municipal election in Brazil with some 100 million going to the polls is seen as a victory, by many political analysts, for the elderly. One example is engineer Heródoto Bento de Mello, 84, who was reelected mayor of Nova Friburgo, a town with 200,000 inhabitants near the city of Rio de Janeiro.

And then in another article comments, a newbie signing John Miller but writing in brazilian (funny but so it is) describe the rosy tale of Brazil.....in education, healthcare, and prowess of Brazilian Agriculture production.
When in reality, - in education Brazilians rate themselves at 46th out of 50 - in healthcare, just read the article comments and thousands of similar comments. In pharma drugs, not one brazilian Company is in the BOVESPA 66 ! - IN FOOD & GRAINS production, you export to the tune of US$ 66 billion this year, but have 25 % of your population UNDER NOURRISHED !!!!!
And your are proud of such performances ! Brazilians always caress their navel of how good they are...when in reality they lag even much poorer countries in many metrics and stats comparisons !
You really have what is called the Brazilian Inferiorty Complexion and to hide it you applaude even your UNDER PERFORMANCES !!!!!

I can't imagine being old and sick in Brazil. No matter where you are there is noise, it just doesn't stop, construction, idiots that have speakers in the bed of their trucks that are bigger than the trucks themselves. Não tem respeito, para nada nem ningem. Being old and sick in Brazil must be a f**king nightmare.

A good article highlighting the success of some of our seniors in being elected and reelected as mayors and the plight of rest of our elderly citizens.
But I should take my hats off to our current government in motivating the seniors to contribute to the welfare of our country. Another glaring example of a senior citizen being encouraged is our famous architect Oscar Niemeyer who has just been commissioned to rebuild the headquarters of UNE in Rio and also renovate our Palácio do Planalto. This gentleman is 100 years old! Isn't it wonderful news to our seniors?
Being old and sick in Brazil must be a f**king nightmare.
You have many more years to go and plenty of alternatives to avoid the nightmare, Bo. For the rest of those underprivileged seniors, there is just one option and that is called Euthanasia.
