Trasamazonian road in BrazilDepletion of the Amazon Rainforest is not a new concern facing environmentalists, biologists, ecologists, and a growing number of the Amazonian indigenous peoples. For decades they have feared for the fate of the world's most biologically diverse and species-rich hothouse.

another coha 'x-purt'. what solution do you propose to better the lives of 20 million people while at the same time implementing a conservation program.

why not do an article on the condition of the us 250 years after destroying 90% of it's forests (the remainder having been turned into touristic national parks).

you people use endowment & taxpayer money to spend 8 hour days spewing out academic gobble de gook. how many times have to been to the amazon region & how much time have you actually spent here.

NGO'S..the world is better off without them. Their true agenda is always to save their own industry. Those are the same a*****es who created the term "GLOBAL WARMING", a hoax that will protect their own subsidized by governments around the world "Green jobs". Actually it's their "Green money".

God dammed commies. BUT...BUT... their true agenda is always to save their own asses.

God bless America and save it from the Commies and NGO´s. Also from COHA. I had enough of the rants.

What we are being asked to believe is that the vast majority don't give a monkey's (tit) - amazon ones n/a - for the environment, ngo's and anybody who talks down Uncle Sam.

The article is begging the question.
Either the GLOBAL community is willing to invest in 'setaside' policies in the Amazon region, compensation and incentives which build alternative sources of employment so that logging soya and beef production become LESS PROFITABLE or the South American Sahara might be a better name.

Such is the concern, there are signs that some farmers are beginning to EXPERIENCE change,BUT only if the PRACTICAL conditions allow for that to happen.

This site confronts the strategy of the Anglo-American oligarchy to hobble Brazil's economic development through such stalking horses as concern for the Amazon.

Soybeans

For those who are not Asians, the soybean is cattle food, a source for soysauce, or maybe tofu for metros, Steph.

Only Asians seem to actually eat soybeans. Why not start a massive, coha sponsored reducation program in the Far East to get them to switch to potatoes?

Hey, I am an American and I don't in any way want to be lumped in with the Greens or the other evil environazis who want to control how others (including American farms and businesses) live their lives. The population of the world is growing. More prosperous people eat more beef and soybeans. I see nothing wrong at all with Brazil developing their real estate resources.

exactly Brandon,

There is nothing wrong with green, but those damn NGO's, who are also sponsored by the evil oligarchy, and who are not only in the States but also in Europe, coming up with something fake to control our lives is totally wrong. The naive green individuals in Brazil and in other countries where nature plays a big role must understand that the NGO's are part of the hidden agenda of the elites of well developed nations. Those individuals, are masterminds in twisting words that they come over for the green, but in reality don't care at all,but care about to save their own industry and to make more "green". Brazil should find a balance to maintain it's forest and economic growth, and trust less the greedy evil oligarchy who are sponsoring the "happy green face with a mustache" NGO'S. Just read the book "Liberal Fascism:the secret of the american left from Mussolini to the politics of Meaning". There you will read and understand that the green shirt are the brown shirts of the past.

Wow, there is some seriously paranoid and ill informed people on this site. Not unexpected when you find Americans and Brazilians together. Two nations that don't have a whole lot of interest in educating their populace.
