New Orleans Is Just a Side-Effect of the Neoliberal Hoax While the Rich Flee in Helicopters PDF Print E-mail
2005 - September 2005

New Orleans, Third World scenes in the USThe shocking images of a devastated New Orleans constitute one more evidence of the neoliberal hoax imposed to the masses by the elites. Television sets from all corners of the world have been parading for days now the U.S.'s Third World, the tragedy of the forsaken populace, abandoned to their own fate, without water or food, suffering and plundering, protesting and subjecting themselves to multiple humiliation.

Ironically, this occurs in the cathedral of neoliberalism, the United States. It is the failure of the economic model that just makes a few rich, impoverishing the rest.

Coincidence or not, the majority of those who roam the streets or camp on the soaking squares, homeless and hopeless, forced to accept Martial law and to suffer the effects of their own misery, are black. They defend themselves as they can, some even plundering, robbing and killing, in despair.

We have to pay heed to the fact that the excluded are really the majority, not only in the destroyed main Louisiana city, but in every other American town. A tsunami that reached New York, an earthquake that occurred in Los Angeles or a blizzard passing through Chicago would have equal or worse result.

Imagine then in the rest of the world, where even without natural catastrophes the reality is the same: the masses condemned to the barbarism, the elites escaping in helicopters or shielded in their people-proof mansions. There's not a banker, or business man in the abandoned crowd to be seen. Any day soon, they will not be found anywhere.

Juscelinos

President Lula is down on his luck. After comparing himself to former President Juscelino Kubitschek, he finds himself run over by other Juscelino, the Dourado.

Why the Finance Minister cabinet's chief suddenly resigned, after testifying before the Parliamentary Inquiry Committee? Did he regret all the lies he had spun? Was he warned that he would have to stand face to face with a former-companion, who would have taken to the antechamber of Finance Minister Dr. Antônio Palocci news of unethical practices?

What happens to the Minister in this story? Did he just  hand out the disposable aide to scram, the way former Chief of Staff José Dirceu tried to do with his own aide Delúbio Soares? Was it Palocci who ordered the false Juscelino to resign? Nothing will come of it or are we going to be able to prove that there was traffic of influence  under the shadows of the Ministry's main character?

The President must beware of all of this, because, if his ministers' direct advisers are being hit, it's obvious that soon the ministers themselves will also be hit. And when the ministers are hit, let's admit, it will be only a matter of time before their boss is also hit.

Third Way

The recent shooting, in Congress, left many people unaware of a very important meeting, which took place Wednesday. Leaders of the main parties of the Left gathered in Brasília. You had people like Carlos Lupi, from the PDT, Eduardo Campos, from the PSB, Roberto Freire and Raul Jungmann, from the PPS, and Aldo Rebelo and Jandira Feghali, from the PC do B.

Nothing was made official, but, in view of the possibility that the barrier clause may threaten the survival of each one of them when the political reform is approved, the trend is unequivocal: they are going to establish a kind of federation to dispute elections and to act in Congress.

But the possibility of an alliance doesn't end there. Why not find a common denominator in regards to the next presidential election? After all, after the PT's debacle, they represent what is left of the Lefts.

Separated,  they will go nowhere, but united they might, who knows? They realize that the electorate is unsatisfied with the double option: the Tucanos (from the PSDB, the party from ex-President Fernando Henrique Cardoso) or President Lula. There is room for a third way, capable to break the present economic model. No names were mentioned, even though the candidacy of Roberto Freire, from the PPS, has already been launched.

Suspense

Nobody should be surprised: in one week, when he is being sacked by the House, deputy Roberto Jefferson is going to throw mud into the fan. Instead of taking it as a victim, he will have an executioner role, denouncing what he did not denounce up to now.

This time,  he is not going to spare Lula, although he should focus his catilinarian on Dirceu. But he will present wads of deputies names whose parties accepted illegal money.

We don't know the explanation he will give about the US$ 1.72 million (4 million reais) he received from adman Marcos Valério, as PT's contribution to the PTB.

We can only imagine the impact he will have if he presents two or three suitcases filled with all the money he received still untouched, while he presses home that the didn't distribute the money among his colleagues for lack of a receipt from Valério...

Do you really believe that people in your favelas are better treated...that in New Orleans ????????
And what about your poors...everywhere in you country ??????
Why is there more black poors than white poors...in Brazil too ??????
Do you really believe that poor Americans would prefer to be poor in Brazil ?????
Dont you believe that poor brazilians would be better off by being poor in the USA ???????
Do you really believe that in the USA there is more social inequalities that in Brazil ?????????

Although I understand some criticisms concerning the handling of Katrina's tragedy...I truly dont understand that it comes from Brazil....a country not even caring for their poors at all....concerning health, basic education , housing, pensions, justice and injustice, police killings...etc etc....!!!!!!
But if you are so good compared to the USA why dont you give a credit card free with US$ 1500.00 to every brazilian who has been in the center of a natural disaster, such as floodings that you regularly have ???? Americans did it...a week ago !!!!!!!

Cheers

Yes, the way the US handles its poorest citizens is sad. However, having been in the streets of New Orleans and in the favellas of Sao Paulo, I can tell you that the poorest in New Orleans and the poorest in Sampa are forgotton by those with money and power. I hope this disaster can help shine light on the Bush Administration's tax and economic policies. Take a look for yourself. The last four consecutive years, the gap between the rich and the poor has grown in the US. It also continues to grow in Brazil. Face thr truth and change!

You must be smoking crack. The disaster after Katrina is a direct result of the Ultra Conservative side of the U.S. that has TAKEN control of the U.S. government and done everything to benefit corporations with complete disregard for the people of the country or world. It isn't liberalism it's Corporatism (i.e. Fascism).

The truth about New Orleans (NO) is this: The city had an evacuation plan in place and did not use it. The liberal Democrat mayor refused to order evacuation and refused to use the 500 city transit buses and over 500 school buses to evacuate the ones that could not afford to leave. These buses were to have been moved throughout the city picking up people BEFORE the hurricane hit. These buses were within 2 km of the Superdome and were untouched except for one taken by a teenager to save his family and friends. The Louisiana authorities turned away Red Cross food and water because they did not want the people to come to the Superdome expecting food and water
All of these things are easily found on the internet. The fault lies with the Mayor for failing to use the EMERGENCY PLAN they ALREADY HAD!! President Bush had to call both the Mayor and the Governor to get them to START the evacuations...and the Governor waited 24 hours!!!

The Mayor of N.O. has now bought a house in Dallas,Texas and moved his family THERE!! After spending 10 (TEN) days there, he will return to N.O. to help in relief efforts!!
And Louisiana Senator Mary Landrieu says it is President Bush's fault the school buses weren't used!!! Soooo...the Democrat Mayor, the Democrat Governor, and the Democrat Senator did nothing for the poorer population....but it is the President's fault!!
One added note....money was allocated for levee construction 3 times...but used once for a canal, once for casino construction, and once just used for general repairs. From the day they were built, the levees could not withstand this kind of storm, and EVERYONE KNEW IT!!

What happened in New Orleans is the moral result of many decades of welfare state.

Thus the article below helps very much to explain the moral devastation caused by the excess of state paternalism.

REBUILDING NEW ORLEANS -- AND AMERICA

By Thomas Sowell (September 6, 2005)
Posted at The Capitalism Magazine
URL: http://www.capmag.com/article.asp?ID=4395

The physical devastation caused by hurricane Katrina has painfully revealed the moral devastation of our times that has led to mass looting in New Orleans, assaults on people in shelters, the raping of girls, and shots being fired at helicopters that are trying to rescue people.
Forty years ago, an electric grid failure plunged New York and other northeastern cities into a long blackout. But law and order prevailed. Ordinary citizens went to intersections to direct traffic. People helped each other. After the blackout was over, this experience left many people with an upbeat spirit about their fellow human beings. Another blackout in New York, years later, was much uglier. And what has been happening now in New Orleans is uglier still. Is there a trend here?
Fear, grief, desperation or despair would be understandable in people whose lives have been devastated by events beyond their control. Regret might be understandable among those who were warned to evacuate before the hurricane hit but who chose to stay. Yet the word being heard from those on the scene is "angry." That may be a clue, not only to the breakdown of decency in New Orleans, but to a wider degeneration in American society in recent decades.
Why are people angry? And at whom? Apparently they are angry at government officials for not having rescued them sooner, or taken care of them better, or for letting law and order break down. No doubt the inevitable post mortems on this tragic episode will turn up many cases where things could have been done better. But who can look back honestly at his own life without seeing many things that could have been done better? Just thinking about all the mistakes you have made over a lifetime can be an experience that is humbling, if not humiliating.
When all is said and done, government is ultimately just human beings -- politicians, judges, bureaucrats. Maybe the reason we are so often disappointed with them is that they have over-promised and we have been gullible enough to believe them.
Government cannot solve all our problems, even in normal times, much less during a catastrophe of nature that reminds man how little he is, despite all his big talk. The most basic function of government, maintaining law and order, breaks down when floods or blackouts paralyze the system.
During good times or bad, the police cannot police everybody.
They can at best control a small segment of society. The vast majority of people have to control themselves.
That is where the great moral traditions of a society come in -- those moral traditions that it is so hip to sneer at, so cute to violate, and that our very schools undermine among the young, telling them that they have to evolve their own standards, rather than following what old fuddy duddies like their parents tell them.*
Now we see what those do-it-yourself standards amount to in the ugliness and anarchy of New Orleans.
In a world where people flaunt their "independence," their "right" to disregard moral authority, and sometimes legal authority as well, the tragedy of New Orleans reminds us how utterly dependent each one of us is for our very lives on millions of other people we don't even see.
Thousands of people in New Orleans will be saved because millions of other people they don't even know are moved by moral obligations to come to their rescue from all corners of this country. The things our clever sophisticates sneer at are ultimately all that stand between any of us and utter devastation.
Any of us could have been in New Orleans. And what could we have depended on to save us? Situational ethics? Postmodern philosophy? The media? The lawyers? The rhetoric of the intelligentsia?
No, what we would have to depend on are the very things that are going to save the survivors of hurricane Katrina, the very things that clever people are undermining. New Orleans can be rebuilt and the levees around it shored up. But can the moral levees be shored up, not only in New Orleans but across America?
Liberals don\'t need facts...
written by Guest, September 12, 2005
Ok...so I went to Snopes just to see ALL of the conservative facts (Interesting..facts can be conservative!!) being disproven...Yes..there is the picture of the buses. According to the emergency evac plan, they were to have been used 24 to 48 hours before the hurricane hit. Drivers were still in town, the roads were clear, the storm wouldn't have been there yet.
Did the President urge them to evacuate? Only if you believe the Mayor and Governor. Did the Governor delay 24 hours? Only if you believe the Mayor and Governor. Was money set aside for levee improvements? Only if you believe the N.O. papers. How long have they known the levees couldn't survive a Cat 5 hurricane? Only since they were built

It shouldnt of taken as long as it did to send the katrina victims help. Bush barely speaks about this, and when he does its mostly nonsense.
Last year he was constantly on tv about the florida hurricanes and those barely did anything here..I know b/c I live in this crappy state.

Now the liars have no enemy to fool its own people about, what can they do?

Approximately 90% of the people were evacuated....Many of those who stayed and later had to be evacuated stayed by choice, as evidenced by the number of people still there that REFUSE to leave. Many people stayed just so they would be able to loot a deserted city. The Mayor said the city had survived, had missed the worst of the hurricane....THEN the levees broke, flooding the entire area. The flooding was the reason for the slow response (which, by the way was 2 days quicker than the quickest response for any other hurricane). Believe me, the American people and the people of N.O. know that the local government was responsible for EARLY evacuation of those who were dependent on public transportation....and the local government LEFT TOWN!!

It is the first time a HEAVILY populated below sea level area was struck by both a cat 4 hurricane and then, one day later, a huge flood that occurred in a matter of hours. The surprising thing was the breakdown of the N.O. police force and the stupidity of the local officials putting criminals into the Superdome with victims...and not providing security. Add that to the mayor NOT following the evac procedures and you get a mess like this.

How many nations have the ability to move an entire city's population and still feed and house them?

This is just another example of how conservatives are so full of s**t. Most of it comes from watching Fox "News", where Murdoch, Roger Ailes and company just make s**t up. Let's get with the real facts:

When Gov. Kathleen Blanco declared a state of emergency for Louisiana, Saturday, Aug. 26, George W. Bush was still on a five-week vacation in Crawford, Texas. He remained there on Sunday when Katrina was upgraded to a Category 5 hurricane, when Mayor Ray Nagin ordered the evacuation of New Orleans, when water began spilling over the levee, and when the Superdome was opened to residents who couldn’t, or wouldn’t leave the city. When Katrina hit the Louisiana and Mississippi coasts, he was on a political promotion in Arizona. When the levee was breached, he was in California at a golf resort to continue pushing a political agenda. On Tuesday, with New Orleans flooded, he spoke at the Coronado Naval Base near San Diego, where he invoked 9/11, compared the nation now to the nation after the attack on Pearl Harbor, and compared himself to Franklin D. Roosevelt. Later in the afternoon, Bush relaxed with a country singer before returning to Crawford. With thousands now trapped in the Superdome, and suffering under primitive conditions, Bush cut short his five week vacation by two days and flew over the flooded city on his return to the White House two days after Katrina invaded the continental United States. Official White House Photos showed a concerned compassionate conservative looking out of the window of Air Force One. Also missing in action were Vice-President Dick Cheney, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, and Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) Cheney was on vacation in Jackson, Wyo., and didn’t return to Washington for several days. Rumsfeld, who could have ordered a full military response to assist, was vacationing in San Diego; while water from Lake Pontchartrain was destroying New Orleans, Rumsfeld was attending a Padres–Diamondbacks baseball game. Hastert, who had suggested New Orleans shouldn’t be rebuilt and then modified his statements, was at a fund raiser in Indiana when Congress, by voice vote, passed an emergency $10.5 billion relief appropriation. Hastert was present a week later when Congress approved an additional $51.8 billion; apparently, he had raised enough funds for a fellow Congressman.

Yea...this administration really cares. Let me ask all you bible thumpers this. Was God sending Hastert and Trent Lott a message since their houses were completely destroyed? All of you Bush supporters are such ignorant fools. First of all, none of you make enough money to even be counted by him. You're just the most easily manipulated because you all lack the ability to think critically. The most important issues to you are preventing Homos from getting married, thus this criminal enterprise which happens to be in the White House can use you to win votes.

This "President" has done irreparable harm. Those who still support him are among the most ignorant and useless Americans we have. Sure, support this criminal and send your sons and daughters to go and die in Iraq so that gas prices can be $3.50 a gallon. I guess it's a coincidence that Condi Rice sits on Chevron's board and she has an oil tanker named after her. Bush's oil connections are well doucmented. Wake up you fools!!! Oh by the way, I'm a Republican. Don't be surprised if Halliburton gets a non-bid contract to clean up New Orleans. You stupid f**ks still wouldn't see the connection.

Full of what?
written by Guest, September 13, 2005
With no real facts, some people resort to personal attacks. Presidents do not really go on vacation, they change working locations. the hurricane would have come in no matter where the President was...The levees would have been breached no matter what the President did. The hurricane initial response was a local matter, as levee maintenance has been ever since the levee's were built. The locallly elected Democrats chose to spend the levee money on the casinos and locks to try to increase barge traffic.
Halliburton has already gotten a contract to repair the Naval docks. They are the biggest contractor and can get it done the quickest.
What have the Democrats done for New Orleans while they have been in control for the last 20 years? Bush INCREASED money available for levee repair...LOOK IT UP!!
Many people question whether it is wise to rebuild New Orleans as it was since it is already below sea level and sinking at a rate of over one inch per year. If they build the levees up to withstand a Cat 5 hurricane (which could have been done in the 8 years of Clinton/Gore), what will happen if a Cat 6 hits?
BUSH IS A CHRISTIAN?!?! We can't have that!! By your thinking, God doesn't like poor people because he gave them a Democrat that was supposed to bus them out of harm's way but didn't... New Orleans....blessed with a Demo mayor, Demo levee commissioners, Demo councilmen, Demo Governor, Demo Senators.
Bush made one huge mistake...He trusted the New Orleans and Louisiana officials to follow the procedures THEY had written out.
Smoke, noise, and heat...but no action

Based on who stayed on topic and presented more pertinent facts without any personal attacks, I would say Docholder won that round!
This just in!!!
written by Guest, September 13, 2005
Amtrak offered to run a special train out of New Orleans, but the city (democrat) officials turned them down. I would not believe this except for the fact the city officials also turned away the Red Cross trucks (filled with food and water) from the Superdome TWO DAYS BEFORE the hurricane. The reason? The Mayor said they didn't want people to be lured there by food and water. once there, they didn't want them to stay. This is the same Mayor that SIX MONTHS before had told the people that if they stayed after the evacuation order, they were ON THEIR OWN!!
Facts can be SO annoying....they may even lead to name-calling and rudeness.
Ask God\'s Help

ask gods help for the idiots and brain dead people in this world- it seems to be the way of the world to blame everyone else for everything, but in addition, take what you can from the government-people in america and across the world for the most part hear the news in some form or read it - katrina had been brewing for awhile- a cat 3 or more and you endager your life as well as as your loved ones and not get out of harms way- then you are stupid- when all is said and done let us see how many vehicles we damaged because people refused to leave, this also includes the several hundred school buses and public transportation buses as well as amtrak train system that was not utilized- voluntary evacuation by the mayor and governor - bulls... this should have been mandatory starting that friday- look at key west - below sea level but some how they get out of harms way- if the local public officials who were elected by said people cared so much about them the governor would have alread contacted the president no later than 12 pm on saturday - look at the time line on katrina build up and arrival- in addition said loving statements of lousiana would already had the hospitals evacuate by saturday as many as possible- mandatory evacuation notice would have been given on saturday and said school buses should have been used to bus as many as the old and sick as possible- then what bugs me is the mayor and the governor knew prior where they were going to house those that stayed, there was not an infirmatory with a medical team in there, the local national guard was not set up, and some type of food items stored- the state of louisiana has an evacuation plan which was not followed by the loving local officials yet other states have one and they follow it- the local offials failed to notify the public by some form of public communication of said evacuation plan and what items you should bring with in the event you have to go to a shelter ie medication, list of medications, birth ceritifcate and some non perishable food items, bank account and credit card info if any -not one ounce of responsibility is number 1 being placed on the adults who were abled bodied and were and could have gotten out number 2 the mayor and governor have done nothing wrong number 3 if the president would have stepped in and overrode the law and their evaucation policy he would have been labed and dictator and a tyrant who just wanted a demorcratic governor out of the way- when it is all said and done why should anyone do anything- blame bush he is god and and change the weather and do miraclous things although i do not know if he is aware at this time he is god and why should we have do jack s**t for outselves we have a government that we can blame, we can sue, we can accuse of racism, who will support us no matter what we do, we do not have to work, we do not have to study in good, hey thanks god for amerca she is the jackass of all counties she will give you a free ride - then on top of this you have the idiot deamoncrats who without investigating the facts and having the facts verified through a commision after said 'clean up' they are doing it now- instead of uniting the country and state to get peoples lives back together in some form they are fire, makeing people angry, angry enough to tell lies not only through interviews but having the idiots who call themselves reporters state untruths- and you want to know why we appear weak to many other countries we are we are not united we are divided and katrina will put of a division within this country - george bush has his faults and you know what so i, natural disasters are un predictable and because of that you hope people have common sense to evacuate without being told what to do - i do know feel sorry - and those that placed that lives of their children in danger pi..... me off. when will americans grow up, face responsibilies and chart their own life and future- never- not as long as your have people who's main goal is to divide this country, preach racism and laziness- my bible states if you do not work you should not eat- exception to this is the infirmed only- use your head people- common sense - oh i forgot you do not have to anymore
i along with many millions will be paying for this for the next 30 years
i guess i could say thank you huh?

Help actually was immediate. Unbelieveable but true, the Red Cross had food and water ready for the Superdome and the Mayor (who happens to be black, well, dark) and the LOCAL Homeland Security agency refused them and asked them to leave. This was stated above. Also, the YELLOW school buses did not pick up the darker people because the BLACK mayor refused to order the driver's to implement the emergency evacuation plan (written in BLACK AND WHITE). The people of ALL COLORS got the same warning to leave. It turned out, the only color that didn't make it out were those without enough GRAY matter or enough GREEN in their pockets

it is true it is time us real american people took back amercia- all that is theirs- including any aid etc etc etc that is given to help other nations, we need to keep everything in our pockets- but you know thanks to the grace of god america has been blessed and for thatreason they see the need to help everybody-but unlike other leaders in this world who have access to a higher authority and could have changed the course of the tide- weather or any other natural disastor- george bush is not tapped into those lines-say want you want about george bush but i thank god every day for him and i pray for this country - if it were not for america's compassion - no matter who is president at the time- many of my family would not be here - katrina was a natural disastor and i far as the scientist can say it does not discrimminate and does not know black white or green - it does not chart its own course from a pilots chair either- if bush should have been impeaced for katrina then clinton should have been impeached for the many thousand that died in chicago- no president is perfect no government is- however, you do hope and pray that at least the local government officials that the majority voted in would have some brains between the ears to use their own emergency evacuation plan that they wrote up and they they would at least do their jobs- since they live in the same state that the disastor occured in- GOD BLESS AMERICA AND GEORGE W. BUSH!!!!!!!!!!!!

Adam Smith must be smiling in his grave. The market has spoken. Those with adequate financial resources can take care of themselves just fine. Everyone else better find a piece of wreckage and hang on for dear life. We haven't returned to the early twentieth century, but rather the early 18th century. Now Bush says he won't raise taxes to pay for the $200B rebuilding cost. Where will this money come from. No surprise there from slashing programs to help those in need ( read poor people ), from budgets of govt agencies ( like FEMA, and the Army Corp of Engineers ) that might help prevent or mitigage the next disaster. So the rich keep their tax cuts, and programs that help the general welfare of the country are gutted. A government owned by and for capitalists ( read rich people ). That is America today, god bless it and George Bush, and god help you if your not one of the chosen "real american people" as the moron above so eloquently stated.

My bad...I said help was immediate when I meant that the Red Cross trucks were there with ICE AND WATER AND OTHER SUPPLIES BEFORE the hurricane ever hit!!!... New Orleans authorities TURNED THEM AWAY because they didn't want the people to be drawn to the Superdome...and they wanted the ones that were there to LEAVE!!
It's amazing how many uninformed people think the initial response is up to the federal government. Even if the feds had known the incompetent Democrat mayor would not follow HIS evacuation plan, or that the incompetent Democrat Governor would not call in HER Louisiana National Guard, legally, there STILL would have been nothing the Fed's could do.
Soooo...now with a few more facts (some of which I have written for the 3rd or 4th time, can you tell us the planet on which YOU live?
Oh...and for the people who are learning the English language, you would never say someone or thing "don't have a clue".

yes our taxes will probably rise but you know what america has survived and will again this is not first time we have had to come back from a major financial situaion nor will be be the last- why should the government supply programs for this and that when you have a choice- free education here in this country - not a public school system where so many are turned away because there is no room and might not be for a few years- why should i pay for someone to have 4 or 5 kids they can't support them but i should and the government- america has more stories of hard work and determination where people have made it you may not be bill gates but you can do and not milk the government and the taxpayes for everything- look at four major cities newspapers at the adds- there are jobs - but here in america why should some people work when then can make more off the government- it is pathetic that they can but here you are taken care off- my dad worked two jobs-so did i for a time- it did not kill us- we did not ask the government for one red cent - we made it-i am glad this country has so many rich people can you imagine america with all poor people- it is amazing that the most of these real rich people are supported and made richer by all of us - those in sports, entertainment etc but you know what they made it and are able to do that- so what- these same rich people and a lot of them also give back to the community and help various organizations such as the red cross which seems every country on the glove has used and is using in some form- thank heaven america has had will have the resources to help others not only at home but in other countries- it seems that america is so bad - yet when in times of trouble who do 99% of the countries look to and even if they do not look to they hope that they get aid from america- in life we have choices and we need to live by them-
live within your means
have children you can afford to raise not somebody else
plan for the future
get a good education
work work work
depend on no one but yourself
hard work builds character
take care of you and your family
this is what we live by

this has worked for my family of 'legal aliens' we are self sufficient not rich but we will not live off any government.

this moron is not doing too bad and so are the other morons that i know

Turn on CNN (i.e. Anderson Cooper). People died for the lack of water for 5 days in New Orleans, 2005.

You either is dilusional or gotta a hold of some bad grass, jerkoff!

Get lost...IDIOT!
DId you sign off as IDIOT?
written by Guest, September 17, 2005
Dear Mr IDIOT...Yes, the people died BUT, once again, THE WATER, FOOD, AND ICE were AT THE SUPERDOME before the hurricane hit, and NEW ORLEANS AND LOUISIANA OFFICIALS turned away the Red Cross trucks, stating they did not want to prematurely DRAW people to the Superdome. Also, they did not want the people to STAY at the Superdome. What happened to the food, ice, and water after the flooding? I don't know. Maybe the trucks couldnt't get through the water that flooded the UNUSED BUSES.
To those learning the English language, you do not say "you is" and delusional is not spelled as it appears in Mr IDIOT'S sad commentary.
Responding to IDIOT
written by Guest, September 17, 2005
There are simply too many facts here for many people to grasp.
1) Mnoey was available for levee work but the local government sidetracked it.
2) The local government had the authority and the buses to remove people as outlined in the N.O. evac plan (Have you read it?)
3) Bush had to call repeatedly to get the Mayor and Governor to even call for an evacuation.
4) The Mayor is black and refused to order the use of the buses to help move the poorer people (also black), therefore the racial questions are based in ignorance. You know, during the last election, when the Mayor WANTED to get people to the polls, the BUSES WERE USED!!!
5) The Red Cross had truckloads of supplies and were refused entry to the Superdome area before the hurricane hit.
6) Rescue and relief were delayed due to sniper fire in many of the poorer areas
7) The Louisiana National Guard is under STATE control
smilies/cool.gif Response time for this hurricane/flood was actually 2 days better than for Hurricane Andrew (Florida)
9) The federal government and agencies are NOT first responders. FEMA is a MANAGEMENT agency (It actually says so in the name!!
10) The federal government can not take over unless asked to do so by the State Authorities....and they didn't ask

Mr. IDIOT, I hope this has answered some of your questions. I would suggest you listen to some other news outlets every once in a while. Some that are less hysterical and give less time to incompetents such as the mayor of New Orleans or the Governor of LA. Oh...and where are those 25,000 body bags they called for? I guess they will show up at Big Lots, along with slightly water damaged school buses and food rejected by the New Orleans authorities.
LOL...

the Mayor, could have greatly reduced the loss of life by at least offered the poorer citizens a way out of their low-lying neighborhoods before the hurricane. He also had the authority to allow the Red Cross to keep the truckloads of food and supplies at the Superdome area. He did neither, and, after the hurricane and flood occurred, he left town for TEN DAYS to stay with his family in DALLAS, TEXAS. He is a HERO!!!
OOPS!!
written by Guest, September 17, 2005
Not sure if this is on CNN yet, but the Louisiana emergency planning officials are under indictment for a small problem involving $60,000,000 (That's 60 million dollars, Mr. IDIOT) that have gone unaccounted for from 1998 to the present. Some of the funds were earmarked to buy out landowners of flood threatened homes. It just gets worse and worse. Hard to believe the people of NO and LA actually voted these idiots into office.
This also may not have made CNN...Polls show that 60%+ of the evacuated people feel the local and state governments are at fault. Seems the folks from NO realize that when the buses don't run on time, it isn't the President's fault.
OH NOOO!!
written by Guest, September 18, 2005
Not more dirt coming out!!! But there it is, published by the AP today....8 YEARS AGO Congress allocated money and ORDERED FEMA to develop mass evacuation plans for New Orleans. (WHO WAS PRESDENT 8 YEARS AGO?). The money was spent by New Orleans officials to do a study on a causeway across Lake Ponchartrain.
Maybe this will be on CNN so even the least informed will hear it....
But, then, what good....

"the hurricane would have come in no matter where the President was...The levees would have been breached no matter what the President did. The hurricane initial response was a local matter" No one said that the levees wouldn't be breached. That's not the argument you moron. The point is what he didn't do after. The bottom line is even Bush felt compelled to apologize for his inaction. He also stated that " after the frightening experience of September 11th, Americans have every right to expect a more effective response in time of
emergency" (Sept. 15th) By his own admission, he acknowledged that the response was not adequate and thus Americans have the right to be pissed.

"..Halliburton has already gotten a contract to repair the Naval docks. They are the biggest contractor and can get it done the quickest". How convenient that you fail to mention that they are plagued by allegations of overcharging and fraud in Iraq. Also, if no one else gets to bid and win a contract, how can we know that some other company couldn't have done it better; and therefore getting the best value for the money? We don't and that's the point you imbecile.

"Bush INCREASED money available for levee repair...LOOK IT UP!!" Now this is just a flat out lie. Back this up by showing us where you got this bulls**t...Fox News doesn't count. The federal government began reducing Corps of Engineers appropriations in 2001, as more money was diverted to homeland security, the fight against terrorism and the war in Iraq. The money has been decreasing so saying that he increased funds is utter crap and again shows how you Bush supporters are so full of s**t.

"..BUSH IS A CHRISTIAN?!?!" Yea, I'm shocked by this claim that he is too. He sure isn't trying to help the poor with his tax cuts for the rich. But maybe he is following the ten commandments? Let's see..thou shall not bare false witness against thy neighbor...no..he broke that one when he accused Iraq of having WMDs. Thou shall not kill? No...he broke that one by starting an unnecessary war in Iraq, killing thousands of innocent Iraqs. Hmm what about thou shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his manservant, or his maidservant, or his ox, or his ass, or anything that is your neighbor's? Nope...he broke that when he went into Iraq to steal their oil.

Get your facts together and your head out of your ass. Maybe then our country can begin to rebuild and rebound from where this criminal Bush has dragged us.

Where is it written in the article that being poor in the US is worse than in Brazil?
The author is criticyzing Neoliberalism, the same plague that creates poverty and misery of milions for the benefit of a small elite on BOTH countries, as well as in the rest of the continent and most part of Europe, not to mention the rest of the world.
There is no finger pointing. He actually wrote that the situation in New Orleans is the same as in "third world" countries, except that in these "third world" countries it is like that all the time, even without a hurricane.

The mayor of N.O. is black. Did he get screwed somehow?
No one has noticed this terrible natural disaster was turned into a human disaster by the failure of the democrat black mayor and the democrat white female governor of Louisiana to implement the emergency evacuation...ONCE AGAIN...THE FEDERAL GOVENMENT IS NOT A FIRST RESPONDER. They could have been, but the mayor and governor did not ask for help because they, in their words, didn't want to relinquish control. The city and state level officials REFUSED TO ALLOW food and water to be staged at the Superdome. Can you not read?
TAX CUTS FOR THE RICH...If you give a rich person a tax cut...surprise, they buy things giving the people who MAKE things a JOB. People who don't have a job don't benefit. So I guess you feel we should TAKE the money from the rich (because YOU decided they didn't need it) and GIVE it to the poor (simply the fact they are poor means they really deserve it..not the guy who risked his holdings to build a company).
LEVEE REPAIR...Levee building and repair is under state jurisdiction, not federal. Over $60 million dollars is MISSING just in the last 7 years...not misused...MISSING!! Yes, God, yes, I agree we should have givn these SOB"s more money to p--- away.
Thou shalt not kill...Uh...the literal translation from the original Hebrew is more like "thou shalt not commit murder". Would you rather have Saddam killing innocent Iraqis or Bush killing those Muslims opposed to democracy? Everyone that wants Saddam back in charge, raise your hand...
HALLIBURTON: I didn't mention overcharges in Iraq because that wasn't brought up. it wasn't necessarily convenient. uninformed people keep complaining about Halliburton and contracts...Why is it that we never hear from companies that have been illegally overlooked or ignored? Maybe, just maybe, it's because there aren't any, ya think?
Federal response? It was 2 days quicker than for Hurricane Andrew. Bush apologized to take the growing heat off of the local officials..part of the "new tone" crap only he seems to be practicing. I don't know, I'm kind of doing the same thing by responding politely to some of the jerks that believe that name-calling can replace facts.

written by Guest, September 20, 2005
I thought it was Clinton that was impeached, lost his law license, and paid a huge settlement to end one of his lawsuits? Maybe it was his ignoring the attacks on the USS Cole, the debacle in Somalia, the bombing of the barracks that emboldened bin Laudin to plan to attack the World Trade Center (that, according to statements by Osama himself). It also led to Saddam thinking he could just continue to ignore the UN because no one would do anything. One of his sons actually said that "this is the end. This time they mean it." He was right!!
You would have thought that, after 8 years, Clinton would have had everyone in N.O. wealthy. The money he spent on his Presidential library, whorehouse, and massage parlor would have helped build up some of those levees. You would think Clinton would have at least increased spending on the levee's, not DECREASED IT!!
In all honesty, the environmental movement stopped the last attempt to strengthen the levee system by threatening a lawsuit that halted the work and caused the plans to be scrapped.. You would know these things if you listened to multiple news outlets or just checked websites where news is gleaned and vetted from many sites (vetted means to check for accuracy so I guess that wouldn't be of interest to some people). This probably will cause no facts to contradict me... but possibly we will learn a few extra names from the more dulled ones among us.
America's wretched poor....they only get free food, free medicine, free medical care, free housing, and free transportation. I give up. I agree. It's not enough!! And...although this goes back for generations....IT'S BUSH'S FAULT!! BUSH SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN THOSE BUSES RUNNING!!

And why don't we have the tankers sailing? After all, it's ours isn't it? Maybe you are hoping we will forget this just as we have forgotten everything else the liberals have been wrong about in Iraq. By the way, how long have we been in Somalia? George W Bush.Sure, the guy doesn't know his onions from his tomatoes and has trouble articulating his thoughts but despite these shortcomings and others, all those in positions of authority from the mayor to the governor to the erstwhile director of FEMA and the secretary of homeland security must share most the blame for the failure to respond swiftly and forcefully.Enough of the Bush-bashing. You neo-con idiots are so ignorant it baffles the mind.
re: Clinton a criminal?!! Please...
written by Guest, September 27, 2005
To the stupid idiot who wants to suggest that Clinton was a criminal because he was impeached?!
You have shown that you have no more than a rudimentary ability to analyze anything. So here is a brief history lesson on the Clinton impeachment.

The impeachment of Clinton arose from a lawsuit filed on May 6th 1994 by Paula Jones. (Filing a lawsuit means s**t. Anyone can file one. I can file a lawsuit accusing you of being a dumb ass; it doesn't mean it wouldn't get thrown out) The lawsuit alleges that when Clinton was the Governor of Arkansas, he violated her civil rights when he made a crude sexual advance in a hotel room.

On April 1, 1998, Judge Susan Webber Wright dismissed the lawsuit entirely, finding that Jones
had not offered any evidence to support a viable claim of sexual harraassment or intentional infliction of emotional distress. Jones appealed the decision to the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals but before a decision on the appeal was rendered, the case was settled between both parties. (Clinton's people suggested that they settle so this bulls**t wouldn't get dragged on. So Jones took the settlement money and immediately got a nosejob and later posed nude..very credible woman!!)

So far I don't see how you can accuse Clinton of being a criminal. Some lying skank makes an accusation for money and is being funded by neo cons, makes up some bulls**t. Clinton is a criminal for that?

Let's talk about Kenneth Starr, another conservative attack dog, who's sole purpose was to try to get something, anything, to stick to Clinton. Starr was appointed "independent counsel" (what a joke) to investigate charges relating to the Whitewater real estate venture in Arkansas. Not finding anything illegal out of the Whitewater deal, Starr tries to get something, anything to stick. He turns to Monica Lewinsky. Kenneth Starr suggests that Clinton perjured himself during his Jones deposition when he stated that he never had sexual relations with Lewinsky. (In fact he only received a blowjob.) On September 9th, Starr submitted a report to Congress contending that Clinton commited acts that MAY constitute grounds for an impeachment by lying under oath in the Jones litigation.

(What kind of bulls**t is this? Wasting 40 million dollars in tax payer money for this non-sense. One of you Bush lovers suggested that Clinton let Al Qaeda attack the the USS Cole. It's amazing Clinton's administration was as successful as it was, since the Conservative right attacked him on this bulls**t constantly. He had to defend himself from lies drummed up by the Right for most of his administration. You want to blame Clinton? Then you have to blame the Conservatives who controlled Congress. They're the ones who made up these lies about Watergate and funded Paula Jones and literally stalled the government from accomplishing anything during this time.)

On December 11th and 12th, the Republican owned House approved 2 of the articles alleging that Clinton: provided perjurious and false testimony in regards to the Jones case (which had no merit and was already tossed out) and that he allegedly obstructed justice in regards to the evidence in the Jones case. (More bulls**t, the case was already ruled to be with out merit)

On February 12, 1999, the Full Senate voted on the articles of impeachment with 67 Senators needed to convict. The President was found NOT GUILTY with 55 Senators voting against his removal from office.

How does that constitute him being a criminal? With pea brained idiots like yourself believing Fox News Propoganda instead of learning the facts yourself; no wonder Bush was re-elected. Look this up yourself. The Clinton Impeachment trial is in the history books as such. Get informed you ignorant redneck loser!!

"all those in positions of authority from the mayor to the governor to the erstwhile director of FEMA and the secretary of homeland security must share most the blame for the failure to respond swiftly and forcefully.Enough of the Bush-bashing. I ain't even pro-Bush and I can see this."

Although the local authorities may not be completely blameless, Bush bares a lot of the blame as well. Bush appointed a cronie; his friend "Brownie" to be the head of FEMA. Bush appointed another cronie, Chertoff, to be the head of Homeland Security. By turning these important jobs into rewards for political cronies without experience, he endangers lives. Anyone who can think for themselves can see that.

The Bush supporters on this message board come across as the types who think that Bush can do no wrong and he is always right. That sort of an attitude is laughable and exposes them for what they truly are...idiots.

Although the major Bush basher on this thread is using forceful language, at least he is providing facts. The Bush defenders aren't.

"Can you name one company that has charged that they were left out of the bidding on ANY CONTRACT? If you can, and document it, then maybe we can get a lawsuit against Halliburton and I will salute you!!"

You are such a stupid f**king retard. There were no companies "left out" of the bidding because they were "NO BID CONTRACTS" That's the whole point you numbskull. Other companies didn't even get the chance to bid for anything. That's what "NO BID" means. The contracts were handed over to Halliburton.

You seem to think Halliburton is the only company which can get things done...showing how truly uninformed you really are. Plenty of companies can make and supply meals to the troops. Halliburton just overcharges the military for it.

I can see where the frustration eminates from the many posters on this board. Your lack of information and your mindless defense of even the most obvious Bush administration corruption (No bid contracts) makes me sad that people like you are my fellow Americans.

RE: re:Imbecile

Son...I say "son" because you are speaking as if you are a child....Any company can come forward and say that they could have performed the job....but, STRANGELY ENOUGH, NONE HAVE! Do you understand that? Let me say it another way so that even the dullest among us may understand...If a local mom and pop construction company could have repaired the Naval Docks in New Orleans, don't you think they would be squealing like stuck pigs? And don't you think the alphabet networks would have had them standing next to Cindy Sheehan on the 5 o'clock news?

Bush insider gets no-bid contract

Mr. Bernhard is Chairman of the Louisiana Democratic party and....WAIT!! Did that say Louisiana DEMOCRATIC party chairman? YES, IT DID!! How did this guy get to be a Bush insider?
Imbecile? Retard? Dumbass? Y'all got a lot of 'splainin' to do.
Let me educate you on one more point...The bid process usually takes about 60-90 days. How happy would the people of New Orleans have been to hear "We can't do anything until we open the bids..." Plus, do you understand the process a company has to go through to get on the list for no-bid contract? The qualifications?
I also have not heard one COMPANY complain that they were improperly left off the no-bid list. HAVE ANY OF YOU? No? I didn't think so...
Poor liberals....
written by Guest, September 28, 2005
You can identify the liberals on this board because they are the ones that are reduced to calling other people silly, childish names. Do they not realize that this only weakens their already pitiful arguments? They give facts and immediately scream everyone is wrong. Sounds like the Mayor of New Orleans trying to deflect the blame from himself by screaming " WHY AIN'T SOMEBODY DOIN' SOMETHING FOR THE PEOPLE OF MY CITY?". I really was impressed by the guy that thinks a company can't complain about being left out of no-bid contracts. And he thinks no-bid contracts just came about in the last 3 years 7 years
Why don't you guys quit sucking your thumbs, whining, and calling names, and provide a few facts? Is that too much to ask? Yeah...I guess it is....
Hey!!! I just saw the thing about the Louisiana Democratic party chief owning a company that got a no-bid contract. I'll bet that makes the guy that wrote Re: Imbecile feel kind of silly. (If you want to read about the owner of the Shaw Group which got the no-bid, it's on the Louisiana Democratic Party website!!)

I notice some of the posters here refuse to talk about the Democrat led failure to use the school buses or follow the evacuation plan THEY had approved. They also refuse to speak about the fact that money appropriated to improve the levees was sidetracked by local DemocRat officials. They have plenty of time to elaborate on Clinton's impeachment and Bush's vacation, but no time to discuss the facts of KATRINA and the media's attempt to lay all the blame on the FEDERAL response. The people of N.O. were portrayed as violent and berserk leading the writer to think New Orleans was worse than some of the favelas of Brasil. Of course, he WAS talking about N.O. when it had no electricity, no water, practically no police, had had thousands of homes flooded or blown away, and only the very stupid or very poor remained. And now it is being learned that things weren't as violent as we were told by the media...only 4 murders have been discovered, only 6 bodies at the Superdome (instead of the hundreds we heard about every night) and 4 of them died of natural causes. We were told of babies dying of dehydration, of women being dragged away and raped...yet no one has come forward to say they were raped, or their mother, sister, wife, friend was raped. The media breathlessly said that 20,000 died...now it seems less than 1,300 bodies have ben found.
Guys...you have to give this stuff time to settle out before you jump to conclusions. I don't trust the media anymore...they have lied about too many things...

Americans always talk about how race doesn't matter and how everyone has opportunity. Then they keep a former Ku Klux Klan member, Robert Byrd as a leader of the Democrats in their Senate. What can people of color expect with a known racist, a former KKK recruiter openly holding office?
OMG

Tragedy can happen anywhere in the World. It shocks everyone in reaction time. The US Governament was slow in react, but now that it did things are going back to normal. Now it is a matter of time to reconstruct New Orleans.

Now comparing poor people in New Orleans and poor people in Sao Paulo, actualy anywhere in Brazil is pure ignorance. There is no comparison. The poor in the US is poor because they either chose to be poor or because they have some kind of disability that prevents them from moving ahead. There are plenty of opportunities here for everyone to get an education, find jobs. There are plenty of Governamental aid to help those find a job or get an education.

What does Brazil have to offer for aid for the poor people? nothing!! to put on a comparative prospective of tragedies, what if Hurricane Katrna happened in Brazil, OMG that would probably be the biggest castrophies in the World, probably even greater than the Tsunami in Asia.

It just f...ing burns me when people bash the US.

btw. I was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil but live in the Us...
Stop blaming, and give thanks to those w
written by Guest, October 03, 2005
It really makes me angry to listen to everyone trying to blame everyone else for the things that went wrong, and noone stops to consider the people who were there helping. What about the helicopter pilots who worked for days on end to help the poor people who were stuck on roofs and what about the aid that these poor people have received from us (evil )Americans since the hurricane. I know many people (black and white, democrat and republican) who have donated time, money, and housing to the victims of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The Red Cross said that they had so many people waiting to donate blood that they had to turn people away.
I don't know why everyone always has to try and find someone to blame. Bad things happen sometimes, sometimes we can prevent them, sometimes we can't. I don't know exactly who was at fault for this disaster. I think that most of the people who are laying blame to others probably don't want to take the blame that they themselves probably deserve. For me I would like to blame the hurricane and then I would like to get on with my life, and try and help those in need.
As far as poor people are concerned, I don't think that I would like to be poor in any country, Brazil or America. But as far as poor people are concerned in the US, sometimes it is easy to get an education, sometimes it is easy to prevent your circumstances, and sometimes it is not. One thing is for certain, it is not easy being poor and I think that MOST people would like to try and avoid it.
As far as the media goes, I wouldn' t trust any news station to give me all of the facts. As long a news caster has an opinion of their own (which they all do) then you will never get the whole story, whether they be democrat or republican.

"Son...I say "son" because you are speaking as if you are a child....Any company can come forward and say that they could have performed the job....but, STRANGELY ENOUGH, NONE HAVE! "

Your ignorance is so completely mind-boggling it's like debating someone with down syndrome. So let's look at what you are saying Corky. You seem to think that because You don't see rival corporations complaining about Halliburton on FOX News channel, it therefore must not be happening. Here's a link to an article in the Washington Post about Halliburton's no-bid contracts. It mentions how rival companies ARE complaining.
http://www.commondreams.org/headlines03/0828-01.htm

It's not just Halliburton. This administration has taken cronyism to new heights. Here's another article from a Mississippi newspaper on a no-bid contract awarded to AKIMA, a politically connected corporation, to provide temporary classrooms. Never mind they are located in Alaska (the parent company is NANA Regional) and don't have experience doing this type of work. I guess you think it's ok for them to charge double what it costs per trailer. Nothing wrong with that. It's just tax payer money...I assume you pay taxes..SON. This is where your money is going.
http://www.clarionledger.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article
AID=/20051002/NEWS0110/510020406/1260

You're 1st grade argument would be "no one is complaining". So let me preempt that nonsense. According to the USA Today, a local businessman made a proposal stating he could do the project on half of what AKIMA was proposing. But guess what? "U.S. Senate records show Nana's business interests in the nation's capital are represented by Blank Rome Government Relations, a lobbying firm whose CEO is David Girard-diCarlo. He was a fundraiser for former Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge when Ridge was governor of Pennsylvania. " - USA Today - 9/30.

I've provided evidence of my claims. Where are yours? We can keep name calling all we want. You have not provided a single proof of evidence to support your claims. You and all your Bush loyalists.

As for the Brazilians...let ME apologize for the ignorance of all these Bush loyalists. You have to excuse them because they live in places where it is ok to sleep with their sisters and getting beyond the 6th grade is what's considered educated. Ignoranace is bliss. While Bush is wrecking this country...these fools have their head in the sand. Let me rephrase that...it would be insulting to the ostrich to compare it to them...these fools have their head up their ass.

"Clinton was obviously innocent. That is why the Arkansas State Bar pulled his law license. That is how it works, isn't it? You are proven innocent on all counts and they suspend your legal license"

I only wish you knuckleheads would get your facts right before you post these incorrect claims. It only makes you look like the stupid ass that you are.

"Under an agreement with Independent Counsel Robert Ray, Clinton's law license will be suspended for five years and he will pay a $25,000 fine to Arkansas bar officials. He also gave up any claim to repayment of his legal fees in the matter. In return, Ray will end the 7-year-old Whitewater probe that has shadowed most of Clinton's two terms." - CNN - Jan. 19th 2001

He was SUSPENDED for 5 years as a plea bargain to stop wasting tax payer money and his own money on baseless allegations drummed up by the Neo Cons and Kenneth Starr.

So don't put in your 2 cents if you are too f**king retarded to get your facts correct. Now go drive your pick up truck to the field where you can f**k your sheep in peace and stop posting since you clearly don't know s**t.

Not all liberals are democarts and not all democrats are liberals. It's funny how you Bush backers throw around labels which you have no idea what they mean. Just cause you hear FOX News Channel and their right wing pundits use it.

Even conservatives are now abandoning Bush: Heritage, CATO, Club for Growth all say Bush is bad for the economy. Even Neo Con whore Anne Coulter has started to criticize Bush. Those of you still supporting Bush are clearly in the minority. From reading your comments, it is clear why; you are uninformed.

"And do you know which Administration was in charge when the overcharges were found? THAT' RIGHT!! The BUSH ADMINISTRATION!! Wait...that can't be!! Why would the Bush administration let investigators work against its cronies?
God, it must hurt to be a liberal"

Rolling on the floor laughing my ass off!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. This statement sums up your 2nd grade education and your lack of knowledge. So by your rational...since Bush let investigators work against his cronies, the Bush adminstration is therefore not corrupt? or not in league with Halliburton.

Let me state the same thing you just stated and maybe even a mental midget like you can see how ridiculous it sounds.

And do you know which administration was in charge during the Whitewater investigation? That's right!! The Clinton administration!! Wait that can't be? Why would Clinton let investigators work against his cronies?

See how silly that sounds. I was just reading in passing and thought this "logic" was particularly amusing. Clinton and Bush are equally corrupt. It's just funny to see someone with no clue try to make an argument.

HAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

lol...i thought about Whitewater after i posted it..but it was too late. You got me on that one...As to the person talking about Halliburton overcharges, I only asked if he knew of any companies to name them. Why aren't their congressmen raising hell about this? Guys...raise the tone just a bit...all of the name calling enlightens no one. If you have an answer, give it. Does your difference of opinion mean the other person is of lower intelligence? There are no easy answers and as long as huge sums of money are out there, someone is going to get greedy.
As for the Whitewater probe...remember, as the Democrats say, "it's not the accuracy of the story, it's the seriousness of the charges"
So, I will concede the point that Clinton was pure as the driven snow...and only gave up his law license for the good of the country (lol) But what was the original story about? Oh, yeah....Katrina!! So while you win the petty argument under the bleachers, no one has disproven the fact that the local government and state governments were responsible for the failure to evacuate the poor from NO due to the incompetence of both the mayor and governor.
Bush can do no wrong?

2nd graders that have learned to cuss
written by Guest, October 08, 2005
Has everyone noticed that every time a poster attacks Bush in any way, their rant is peppered with vulgarity and childish name-calling? I can see why some are considered "ugly Americans". They have no respect for anyone (themselves included) and would never, ever have the guts to SAY the things they can write in anonymously.
Why don't some of you GROW UP!! By the way, I was with John Kerry in Cambodia that Christmas when Nixon was president...

I cring every time I read some of these comments here...I have hundreds of Brasilian friend gained over the last 8 years and I wonder if they read some of this garbage. If they do, how in the world could they ever have a good opinion of us? Like the last comment suggested, PLEASE THINK about the image your words project. Your words tell others more about you than they tell about the people of whom you write..

The article about firms complaining about Halliburton is over 2 years old and was not about the original letting of the contract but about the postponement of bid opening, a common occurance in construction bidding, Willie.
I dislike no-bids as much as anyone, whether done by R's or D's. But they are a fact of life and when time is of the essence and the bidding process usually requires months, a no-bid MAY be the best way. That is why we have oversight committees and they are necessary no matter which party is in charge.
But, you know, the challenge was to "NAME ONE COMPANY THAT HAS COMPLAINED" . Sorry, Willie, technically, your answer fell just short. But I don't care about that...It's a damn shame that our government pisses away our money on ANY pork-barrel crap I salute you for finding and bringing to light more of the waste that is going on. My only disagreement is that I don't believe this started in the last 6 years alone.
Not guilty....

Thank God for that stained blue dress or Slick Willy would have gotten away scot-free!! If Monica hadn't been so sloppy, we would never have known that the person in charge of upholding our laws had lied in court. And that stupid little Whitewater thing...did ANYONE ever get charged in that? I think everyone was innocent...well, except for a few of Clintons's closest friends that ended up in jail. But Billy was clean!!
Since we are talking history....Did you know Bush STOLE THE ELECTION? HE DID!! Algore would have won if only they had allowed the recounts...What? Say the news media went ahead and counted the ballots and found Bush won anyway? Oh.....HALLIBURTON!!! NANA NANA NANA NANA NANA NANA
Coming back to Katrina...the Shaw group
written by Guest, October 09, 2005
The Shaw group got no bid contracts. I don't think they are Bush friends. How do you explain that?
As for conservatives criticizing Bush, yes, if he does something that isn't conservative (intelligent), he can expect to be criticized.

Think, if something like this happened to Florida, would people be left to live like they were in New Orleans? No because George Bush's brother runs Florida. It's all about how high up you are. Someone needs to do something about that.
