"Down in Brazil," with American Jazz-Pop Vocalist Michael Franks PDF Print E-mail
2006 - February 2006

Michael Franks and FloraPoor Michael Franks. He gets no respect, no respect at all from jazz purists. Although most critics have grievously placed him in the same New Adult Contemporary, bush-league music category as that of L.A. keyboardist David Benoit - that is, of artists who've been plying their trade for years without either public acclaim or mass countenance - Franks doesn't look like a Rodney Dangerfield, nor does he act or sound anything like the late stand-up comedian.

Michael Franks

My first exposure to the musical stylings of Michael Franks came in the early 1970's while listining to the legendary Detroit Jazz station WJZZ.
One of my favorites was , Lady want's to know. Michael Franks is a tremendous talent, and those of us who are familiar with jazz music are well aware of the contribution that he has made to his craft throughout the years. We put our money where our mouths are!

Find someone else to pick on, say Kelly Clarkson, or that She Bang Vietnamese singing moron!
Kelly Clarkson?!?

I don't think the author "picked on" Michael Franks, per se. I'm sure it was just a way of highlighting the fact that Franks has been overlooked as a serious singer of both jazz and pop. As to Kelly Clarkson, she is still the first and best of the American Idol winners, who seems to have some real vocal talent, as opposed to the Bices, Clay Aikens, Fantasias (now, that's a name that fits), Rubben Stoddards, and what have yous out there. and about my man, William Hung, the she-bangs dude, he's the REAL American Idol -- and he wasn't even born in the good ole US of A!!!!!

Michael Franks Biggest Fan

Michael Franks is by far the best lyricist in the world. He not only appeals to the sense of sounds. His lyrics opens up another demension of your brain. It is so refreshing not to have lyrics spelled out to you. He actually makes you ponder, which also appeals to the intellect. I have his entire collection and have never missed any concert in this area. I have introduced his music to hundreds of people. I have been totally perplexed for the last twenty years as to why the rest of the world or at least America has not realized what a gem he is. I would challenge anyone who believes that they are a bigger fan than I am. It's just not possible. I could probably name every song in one note, and tell you the albumn and year.

Well I must say I too am a very big fan of Michael Franks I fell in love with his music back in the 70'S when he was first heard of. I have seen every concert of his in my area and even made a few trips out of my state to see him. He is by far my favorite artists and I would love for him to continue making more music for us to listen to. Michael if you read this, you are the "Passion Fruit"... Peg from S.A.
