Lula's Closeness to Chavez Only Makes Brazil More Alluring to Bush PDF Print E-mail
2007 - May 2007

Brazilian economist Plínio Soares de Arruda SampaioThe Bank of the South is already a reality. Enthusiasts say it is another integrationist project under way in Latin America. But others are more skeptical and say that the Bank could just turn into a "tit" to feed Latin America's major capital interests. Last week's decision in Quito to create the Bank of the South indisputably signifies another step towards Latin American integration. Now, not only the countries that make up ALBA are involved but also countries like Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador and Paraguay.

Brazil economic respect has just been upgraded to investment grade. Globally, The global concern is infinitely greater then an anachronistic perception of S.A.

The future is about the future and not the past. Brazil's concern is Law, Infrastructure, Education, and the providing of an economic existence for its millions of poor.

Perhaps when all this is accomplished Brazil can revisit this Ponzi scheme.

If gold is selling on the world market for $650 per ounce (31.125grams) then one gram of gold costs $20.88.

If one dollar equals 1.95 Reals then the cost of one gram of gold is 40.716 Reals

If one dollar equals 3.50 Reals then the cost of one gram of gold is 73.08 Reals

You can by more gold for fewer Reals today than you could two years ago.

By some measures Brazil is already an investment grade economy. Standard & Poor's yesterday raised its local currency sovereign rating by two notches to investment grade, although the foreign currency rating matters more to analysts and investors.

Fitch's "country ceiling" - the general upper limit on ratings for non-government issuers - is also at investment grade.

Several private issuers, mostly big industrial groups and banks, already have investment grade ratings, some even higher than Fitch's country ceiling. There is little mystery about what has driven the recent upgrades.

Brazil's macroeconomic "fundamentals" - its trade balance and balance of payments, inflation, the profile of public debt - have all improved steadily in recent years. This year alone Brazil has accumulated more than $35bn in foreign reserves bringing the total to more than $120b
