Will Brazilians Elect a Pro-Bolivarian Former Terrorist as President? PDF Print E-mail
2010 - June 2010
Written by Augustus Aurelianus Severus

Hugo Chavez greets Dilma RousseffBearing in mind that the dominant species of our planet consists of blemished human beings, one should always take into account the innumerable flaws which are unfortunately inherent to its very nature: the selfish pursuit of individual interests regardless of cost/consequences; the ability to disguise imperfections; the penchant to deceive others (attempting to portray personal gains as altruistic deeds); the proclivity towards lying and deceiving; the deplorable aptitude for injustice and cruelty.

Likewise, one should never forget that humanity's historical record also contains abundant examples of acts of oppression, torture, harassment, and mass murder...  Thus, I fail to grasp the underlying logic underpinning scholars, philosophers and idealists who consistently adhere and eulogize the so-called benefits of authoritarian political philosophies.

Undeniably, there is a number of social and political stratagems which, when examined strictly on a theoretical basis, are likely to immediately convey superior, admirable and altruistic qualities to most analysts operating without the benefit of additional data, namely, test results pertaining to realistic cases applied and conducted in acceptable and verifiable conditions.

On the other hand, many of these academic concepts are sometimes proven impractical or unrealistic when analyzed under certain conditions or when applied to specific scenarios, despite any potential and/or intrinsic theoretical values.

Given the above analysis, I must re-affirm my inability to comprehend the rationale preventing many intellectuals to consistently fail to extrapolate what the unavoidably distressing end results deriving from the introduction of any such altruistic, idealistic and authoritarian system would generate.

Therefore, by virtue of its ideologically dictated centralism along with its automatic pre-requisite to outlaw opposing viewpoints emerging from alternative segments of society, it is not conceivable that healthy, free and emotionally/materially content societies may ever materialize.

To be sure, because the imposition of massive censorship within all means of communication automatically sanctions any national and/or regional leader to deliberately conceal flaws, errors, and crimes which may fail to meet with his/her expectations, personal interests or ideological views, the society under consideration would be subjected to potential deception and manipulation.

Likewise, because any such leaders would be naturally exposed to any combination of the above-reference human flaws, the citizenry falling under their jurisdiction would be further vulnerable to whimsical caprice, eventual coercive measures,  lack of privacy, along with random interpretation and/or application of their local laws.

Thus, in light of the unavoidable ability to suppress any type of information at will, along with the absence of the mechanisms that allow public scrutiny of a country's political elite (by opposing factions), societies should always proceed with extreme caution when considering the adoption of Socialist political structures, in view of the potential costs/threat to its citizens in the long run.

Given the strength of the preceding arguments, I am astounded by the continued facility whereby certain groups/segments of (any) society to fall prey to astute, manipulative tactics by deceitful, power-hungry hypocrites who successfully pursue and implement factional platforms flaunting banners of an allegedly "democratic," classless, and virtuous SOCIALIST political system.

Indeed, despite the availability of copious volumes of historical evidence containing acts of injustice, inefficient production system and excessive abuse/mistreatment of the people, it is mystifying to continuously witness the facility by which deceitful supporters of the Brazilian Workers Party (PT) effectively depict Dilma Rousseff as the logical solution for a "democratic Brazilian republic, whereas concealing her unavoidable ties and ideological connection with the Bolivarian movement of Venezuela's Hugo Chavez.

The Hugo Chavez' Connection

There is evidence that modern hard-line socialists in Latin America endeavor to portray moderate postures in order to legally secure the necessary power in order to be poised to launch a legitimate, peaceful revolution from within the presidency of his/her country, as substantiated  by a relatively well-known Univision broadcast in 1998.

During this controversial interview, wearing a business suit, Mr. Hugo Chavez amiably reassured the audience that he would never endeavor to remain in power following the initial five-year term, implying respect for his country's democratic institutions,  stressing that his decision to become a presidential candidate was based solely upon the objective of "proposing a constitutional reform" designed to address specific outstanding issues of the time; concluding that he would then be "more than happy" to leave office upon termination of the first term  or "even earlier".

Likewise, calmly responding to the interviewer's query, Mr. Chavez reaffirmed that he saw no need for nationalization of the mass media, since the sole existing state channel of the time was more than sufficient.  Maintaining the bearings of a "moderate candidate from the Left," after confirming that there was no intention of nationalizing anything whatsoever, the deceptive Hugo Chavez successfully conveyed the illusion of a rational, dependable and judicious presidential candidate who had overcome the former proclivities of a young officer who had once failed to trigger a military coup d'état.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cvbdMg-X5GQ   --- (H. Chavez before the election)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8frIdVnFBD4   --- (H. Chavez years after the election)

In October 2010, the Brazilian people is being asked by the Labor Party (PT) to elect their "recently enhanced", more attractive presidential candidate, Ms. Dilma Rousseff who recurrently goes out of her way to imply reverence for Brazil's democratic institutions along with respect for the opposition parties.

Interestingly, there is abundant evidence to the effect that Ms Rousseff has been frequently praised and blatantly supported by the Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez, who often underscores his enormous admiration for a woman he considers a "fellow South American patriot" (thus implying a theoretical co-patriotism for the future South American socialist nation, as envisioned by the São Paulo Forum).

In this connection, it should be highlighted that the Venezuelan ruler greatly admires Dilma's "valiant" participation in the shameful, successful stratagem to kidnap an American ambassador to Brazil during the time when the country was under the government of a military regime.

While the PT candidate attempts to conceal or minimize her former status of "subversive" or "domestic terrorist", given her direct unquestionable engagement in kidnappings, assassinations, and bank robberies, this former criminal also makes concerted effort to disguise her growing strategic ties with the totalitarian regime in Caracas (along with increasing terms of personal connection with their "ruler"), even when directly confronted about such liaison by members of the Brazilian media in national television.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oe7UbzI-5KI --- (H. Chavez praises Dilma Rousseff)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a22sqQ8u5_w --- (Dilma eludes connection with Chavez)

Hence, it is appalling and painful to witness one's country of birth, from afar, providing a convicted murderer and kidnapper who sponsors or defends pending legislation that includes disguised versions of censorship and maintains excellent relations with the most brutal socialist dictators of Latin America, with the opportunity to become the leader of the nation.

Unfortunately, I must question the ability of the naïve members of the Brazilian working class to pay any attention or understand the magnitude of her crimes vis-à-vis the true face of the political party Ms Rousseff represents, notwithstanding its boundless corruption, shameless deceptive tactics and obvious long-term socialist goals.

Under the circumstances, I must regrettably wrap up my assessment with the most disagreeable conclusion that unless something extraordinary emerges to unmask these horrifying hypocritical monsters, our wonderful, peaceful and happy country will join the growing list of doomed nations where oppression, censorship and fear abounds.

In Full Support of Augustus Editorial - AGAINST SOCIALISM in Latin America
written by LatinAmerican2010, June 29, 2010
It is not surprising that the first of the many socialist members of this blog (perhaps a COHA supporter) has already started with cynic remarks, making reference to Mr.Lula dasilva's presidency - attacking the article's valid points.

When, Mr. dasilva was elected, there were indeed some individuals who may have overreacted with his surprising election. Yet, there were good reasons for the fears expressed back then. The issue being Mr. Lula (being a good political strategist) had not yet have the power base to implement any immediate threat, nor might the Brazilian military have accepted with heads down if he were to have taken very drastic steps during his first term.

Mr. dasilva first two terms in office should be regarded as a time for strategy, when the foundations would be built, when the power based strengthened / secured and when the necessary Bridges & ties were to be established with an increasing number of sympathetic socialist governments - all of which regularly met (informally) at the FORO DE SAO PAULO (the Sao Paulo Forum).

Now, after nearly a decade of PT DOMINANCE of the Brazilian political landscape, with FARC members present throughout Brazilian metropolitan areas, with increasing MILITANCY of various socialists across Brazil and other Latin American countries (poised to defend PT & Socialism), along with COHA so-called intellectuals spewing propaganda of DISINFORMATION throughout the Americas, via their weekly bulletin and participation in Blogs such as BRAZZIL.COOM.... NOW, a candidate such as Dilma Rousseff could be introduced to carry on with the SECOND STAGE of the process; for she is by nature more radicalized and by far more likely to established stronger ties with Hugo Chavez (since she is a wanted criminal in many countries of the Western World)...

There has been a wide variety of discrete and typically deceptive socialist maneuvers, emerging from various fronts (and in many shapes) and which simultaneously strive to SEEK POWER, impose their tainted hypocritical ideology and implement an oppressive socialist Super State to be poised to reach World Predominance. This is a FACT of with most defenders of Liberty across Latin America have been aware for some time!
YOUR SECRET AND DECEPTION IS OUT OF THE BOX!

A very good article written by our distinguished friend Mr.Severus, sharing the fears of just 15% of the Brasilians about Ms.Dilma. Once again my kudos to Augustus who always comes out with some controversial opinion that is quite different from that of the "Commoners" as well as the "Ruling aristocracy". It is indeed refreshing to read his articles and that of other Brasilian ex-pats.

During the past months, three articles have been written by three different Brasilians about the elections 2010 in Brasil. Mr.Amaral prescribing a "benevolent dictatorship", Rev. Sam Paris completely repudiating this measure and now Mr.Severus not siding with any candidate, but...but... questioning the "ultimate intentions" of Ms.Roussef. Great topic.

While I await the comments of other better informed bloggers, I have a question:

Is Ms.Roussef really a socialist?

Firstly, I must express my sincere gratitude not only for your kind words, but also for the encouragement you have consistently provided me, over a relatively long period of time, towards becoming more “active” – in writing – about Brazilian issues; yet, I must cajole your proclivity towards flattery, as you have always been exceedingly polite vis-à-vis my modest contributions. As such, I shall always appreciate your invaluable contribution towards my gradual transformation into a minor political activist, political analyst, and "professional" blogger (LOL).
In connection with your remaining points, I would like to remind you of the most infamous historical figure of the 20th century, namely Mr. Chamberlain, whose political naïveté and sincere desire for peace allowed him to be misled by “Mr.Hitler” who had assured him that Germany had no further claims in Europe after taking the Czech territory of Sudetenland.
Likewise, I urge you to watch all the videos for the provided links, particularly the first one (which displays Mr. Chavez as a completely different individual, practically not recognizable when compared to his currently vociferous “bestial outlook”.
Finally, I would like to implore you to NOT underestimate the true intentions and concealed purpose of the Sao Paulo Forum (quietly established by two co-founders Fidel Castro & Lula during the 1990’s).

Com Dilma você só aposenta após os setenta
written by Anderson FTS, June 29, 2010

Your comments are very sound and provide us with yet another dimention to the main topic: the inadquacy of Ms.Dilma Rousseff to become Brazil's nexte president!

In addition, I am certain that /other bloggers here are likely to join me at the task of thanking you for the input supplied, for your local perspective on this important topic is precisely what we needed and expected in order to broaden subsequent debates under this topic - a wide variety of view points:

- various regions of the Brazil,
- distinct socio-economic groups
- different age/generation groups, and
- the crucial input of both genders

In fact I would like to take the opportunity to EMPHSIZE that my objection to Ms. Rousseff ‘s candidacy has absolutely NOTHING to do with her sex. On the contrary, I have always held the unwavering opinion that if most nations of this planet were administered by females, our troubled blue world would be a much better place.

Esteemed friends,
Excellent depiction made by Augustus of the new conceded political status in our Latin countries to Socialism. At times, it seems that it is almost impossible to detain this new agenda that has swallowed our basic principles and moral in just a decade or so ... I know little of how things are marching inside Brazil, nevertheless I know it is not in it's rightest track ever. If Dilma were to win the elections, she will not improve this situation. It is visible that she has less qualities than her predecessor at this post ...
If one asks himself, what good can be obtained for a Nation which it's president allays with other countries under false, demented and treacherous regimes?. The only visible answer is “to acquire the same perspective at home”.
The more years in power, will lead to a greater power, you may count on it.
My Gratitude for the comments from Carlos (Panama) // Remark/INFO for JOAO
written by Augustus, June 30, 2010
Esteemed Carlos

Thank you very much for taking the time to comment on my editorial.
What our friends here, particularly JOAO may not understand (not yet anyway) is that this issue should not viewed solely through a Brazilian prism, and that the Socialist threat should be regarded on a higher level, from the perspective of Latin America as a whole, for this is the overall plan under discussion here (and sure under consideration by the "big boys & girls" in closed doors. You see, Brazilians are accustomed to decades of relative insularity, when we had the luxury (and the option) to turn our backs towards the rest of the continent, play a relatively neutral foreign policy (on the fence type) and do business with every body... There is no question that this approach has worked well in Brazil, prior to the development of globalism and specially before it had to deal with a socialist government.

JOAO DOES NOT SEEM TO BELIEVE that Dilma (and by default PT) to be necessarily a socialist. He appears to prefer believing in their game of "staying in the closet" where all their socialist credentials are duly hidden... Yet, only those who refuse to see (ENCHERGAR in Portuguese) reality, and prefer believing in their safe little world will not see (VER in Portuguese) what is really actually happening.

Carlos, another part of the issue is that JOAO remains under the impression that I remain without any connections with Brazil (as it was indeed the case when I used to be in this blog during most my internet time). I am updated regularly with political developments from various sources in Brazil almost on a daily basis (2 in Belo Horizonte (Fab & ffcunh), 1 in Sao Paulo City (P.Maluko) and most recently additional another liaison in from an undisclosed Southeastern Brazilian Location ("direita-radical" who has access to a wealth of information) as well as a 2 brilliant young students, 1 in Brasilia (D.) and another in the outskirts of Salvador- Bahia(A), all of whom in addition to my rather limited original family based sources (from Rio & S.Paulo - none of which paid much attention to politics).

By the way, I would like to remind JOAO that Dilma has accepted the endorsement of the Communist Party of Brazil (PCdoB) with her friend and mentor Mr. Lula da Silva at her side... Please refer to the link below which will direct one to a clip from Brazilian television covering the event.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3uKPMDCwLOE (Dilma accepting endorsement from PCdoB)

Thanks again Carlos for taking the time to comment on this important issue for Brazil AND Latin America.
Joao da Silva - Here is an interesting article just published today.

Here is a copy of the article about Fidel Castro and nuclear war, and there is also a similar story published by the Russian newspaper Pravda.

“Fidel Castro warns of imminent nuclear catastrophe”
People’s Daily Online
June 29, 2010

The escalating tensions between Iran and the United States could lead to a new worldwide nuclear catastrophe, former Cuban leader Fidel Castro warned on Monday.

If the United States and its allies try to inspect Iranian ships, "they will receive the proper answer," local media quoted an article written by Castro as saying.

"I have no doubt that as soon as U.S. and Israeli warships try to inspect the first Iranian cargo ship ... it will be the exact moment when the terrible war will begin," Castro said in the article, dubbed "Knowing the truth in time."

"A disaster" is coming "quickly" and a war would start even before the quarter-final of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, he added.

The UN Security Council adopted a resolution earlier this month imposing new sanctions against Iran over its controversial nuclear program, including restrictions on its shipping and air cargo operations.

Castro handed over power to his brother Raul due to health problems in 2006 and has since devoted himself to editorials on major world issues.

On October 2003 I wrote the following in one of my articles published on Brazzil magazine about Cuba and nuclear weapons, and in February 2006 I also posted that information on the Elite Trader forum when we were discussing the subject of nuclear weapons.

*****

February 6, 2006

SouthAmerica: Your guarantee it is only fiction on your mind and not the reality of our Western Hemisphere since the early 1960’s.

Here is why: On October 23, 2003 – I wrote the following on Brazzil magazine. I will repeat a portion of that article as follows:

"The world is changing very fast, and we have to prepare Brazil for the future and adapt Brazil to the new world reality. I would tell my fellow Brazilians: "Please, wake up and look around the world; even poor countries such as India, Pakistan, South Africa, and North Korea have nuclear weapons".

Today we should also add "Cuba" to this list.

On November 22, 2002, I was watching a television program on PBS called "Now with Bill Moyers," Mr. Moyers was interviewing a historian, James Blight (he is considered today to be one of the foremost experts on this subject) - he wrote a book about the 1962 Cuban Nuclear Missile Crisis. It was an enlightening interview. The professor was saying that only recently, (in the last ten years) the U. S. learned a lot of new information about the Cuban missile crisis that the United States did not know at the time.

He said that the U. S. intelligence thought that Fidel Castro had no nuclear warheads on his island in 1962. Since 1992 the U. S. learned that, in fact, the Soviets had already placed 162 nuclear weapons in Cuba. Fidel Castro had been cleared and had all the authorization necessary from the Soviets to use the weapons.

If the United States had attacked Cuba in 1962, the invading US forces would have been annihilated by these nuclear weapons. I am glad that that crisis was resolved with diplomacy. I know that we don't learn lessons from past history, but that particular crisis is a very good example of what we don't know can hurt us in a big way.

Usually when I see lists of countries that have nuclear weapons in the newspapers, the lists never list Cuba as being a nuclear weapons country. Since the U. S. was not aware that Cuba had such a large number of nuclear weapons on the island in 1962, is it very possible that Fidel Castro still has many of these weapons in Cuba.

Why should Castro return any of his 162 nuclear weapons to the Soviet Union at that time, when the United States was not aware that he had all these weapons? I will not be surprised in the future when we find out after Castro’s death that Cuba had all these weapons on that island during all these years."

Here is another posting of mine on the Elite Trader forum on the subject of Cuba’s nuclear weapons from August 2006.

******

August 6, 2006

SouthAmerica: As I said a number of times on my writings over the years - many Americans for some reason have lost their capability to think and reason. (I usually got a bunch of nasty email from readers when I said that.)

I have not seen this information anywhere on print or television and the US mainstream media are very slow and a number of occasions they have a problem in connecting the dots to figure something out. But here is another one for you guys to think about:

It is a fact that Cuba has been armed with nuclear weapons since the nuclear crisis of 1962 – the US government never was able to find out until recently that Castro had an arsenal of about 168 nuclear warheads that he kept on his island for all these years.

Look at some of the possibilities that are open to Castro today.

His major financial benefactor is Hugo Chavez a person that shares with Fidel’s the same ideals. Why not sell to Hugo Chavez a few nuclear warheads in exchange for oil, money and many other things needed in the Cuban economy?

The same idea applies to Castro and Iran. Why not sell to the Iranians a few nukes? Castro could get oil and also all kinds of goods and money from the Iranian government. (Castro is a communist and he does not believe on religion – even tough the Pope visited his island a few years ago. But religion is not a problem for Castro and that probably is a non-issue regarding his decision of selling a few nukes to Iran.)

I wonder if the United States would be too unhappy if Venezuela and Iran had the chance to buy a few nukes from Castro. Castro is old and he probably is dying – what difference it would make to him personally?

In the case of Venezuela he would be arming a good friend against his major enemy. And in the case of Iran he would also be arming someone that is being threatened by his major enemy.

It would be a win, win situation for Castro – even after death he would have left behind something to antagonize his main enemy – the USA.

Would there be Attempting by certain parties to Deviate Discussions over the main topic: DILMA ROUSSEFF?? NO - THIS COULD NOT BE POSSIBLE...
written by Augustus, June 30, 2010
Upon first inspection of a sudden introduction of an entirely distinct topic in the midst of my editorial, it might have appeared that third parties could have decided, via direct communications, that my editorial regarding the presidential candidate Dilma Rousseff should be utilized for discussions of these unrelated issues for “some reason”...
Although the issue these parties might be attempting to introduce here are unquestionably serious, and while these topic changes have indeed occurred many time in the past, generally at the very end of long debated subjects when various individuals were involved, for “some reason” the sudden matter (and source) of change made me question the actual intentions behind this particular incident. Undoubtedly I would be rather saddened and very disappointed in the event this particular act turned out to be the result of a deliberate ploy, discussed outside these pages, in order “kill the topic” which might not meet with their approval in order to draw everyone's attention from issue under consideration…
Yet, on account of my personal respect for the parties involved, and because I had always had the utmost esteem and respect for this senior most member, I will naturally elect to assume that my “first impression” was simply a misunderstanding, since the integrity of the gentlemen involved would never in any way have permitted them to act in such fashion, particular in light of the political nature of this editorial vis-à-vis the political connections of one such member, for one would never dream of thinking that he might be acting in accordance with the same questionable tactics which are commonly utilized the PT and PMDB – TWO OF THE MOST CORRUPT PARTIES IN BRAZILIAN HISTORY. No, I am certain that there could NEVER have been ill intention of those connected to tainted politicians who happen to be supporting the very presidential candidate this article is criticizing, for this gentlemen could never have resorted to less than honorable conduct. I am certain this could never have been the case!
THEREFORE, It would only be NATURAL that one waits for the most senior member of this noble blog to reassure everyone that my passing first impressions were nothing but a misunderstanding, thus confirming that there could never have been any hint of ill, premeditated intentions on the part of anyone involved when the topic of the ongoing discussions (Dilma Rousseff’s candidacy) were suddenly replaced by the separate issue regarding the LEGITIMATE attempt of an international flotilla to inspect vessels of a terrorist state (IRAN) supported by the party of Ms. Dilma Rousseff.
yeah !!!
written by asp, June 30, 2010
what the f**k does the bulls**t coming from castros lips about iran have to do with this article ?
ASP – Indeed – It would have APPEARED that some parties deliberately want to change the topic away from DILMA ROUSSEFF’ ineptitude & compromised political affiliation to be discussed
written by Augustus, June 30, 2010
ASP - Thanks for your initial comment, I appreciated

Indeed, for some reason, someone introduced a complete separate topic and another has replied with volumes of information AS IF they were part of a combined (pre-arranged) effort to confuse the readers and kill the topic in order to embarrass/insult me and/or change the topic away from the corrupt socialist and former CRIMINAL DILMA ROUSSEFF. YET, as previously indicated, it must be solely an impression because I could NEVER expect either of the gentlemen involved to resort to the type of tactics commonly used in Brasilia when the issue under discussion does not meet with ones’ agenda.

Thus, I look forward to confirmation from the most distinguished member of this blog to confirm that such impression was indeed a misunderstanding.

Thanks for noticing the “potential” issue and

Isn't the topic "authoritarianism"?
written by Adrianerik, June 30, 2010
Thus, in light of the unavoidable ability to suppress any type of information at will, along with the absence of the mechanisms that allow public scrutiny of a country's political elite (by opposing factions), societies should always proceed with extreme caution when considering the adoption of Socialist political structures, in view of the potential costs/threat to its citizens in the long run.

Isn't "authoritarianism" the topic of your article? The entire theoretical underpinnings of your article against authoritarian structures apply to much more than socialism, don't they. And (forgive my impertinence), but a study of history shows that from Hobbes (16th century writer of Leviathan, rationalizing power in the king based upon the people), to the non-socialist, authoritarian regimes of Robespierrre, Napoleon, Cromwell and his Puritans, Hitler, the Sarneys, the ACMS, the caudillos in Latin America, Nixon and Reagan in America, all proving that lies, restriction of democratic liberty, censorship of the press, restriction of alternative viewpoints, restriction of opposition political parties, violent crackdown on opposition, etc have been practiced just as much by fascists regimes based upon "elites" who feel that their 'education' and upbringing entitles them to piss upon and even reject democratic fundamentals of "one person, one vote". Especially when "one person, one vote" does not go their way.

Are the PCdB and PsB illegal in Brazil? Are they banned? What about the non-socialist parties that rule with an iron hand thousands of Brazilians cities (son after son after son) in Para', Maranhao, Bahia, etc. Should they be banned? Should we shudder when we see Serra or some other candidate receive support from political leaders who have had their political opposition killed, who have had journalists, who write against them harrassed and run out of town?

I support your distaste for authoritarianism but political parties and personalities do not arise out of a vacuum. (Chavez was created because of the 15% representing big oil in Venezuela who racistly dominated the country for decades). In my humble opinion (actually not but that's besides the point) I believe that your article would be better served if it provided that Brazilian context. Abracos.

Quite busy, but couldn't resist making a few remarks addressed to me.smilies/wink.gif

I said you started a great topic to debate and put forth a deliberate question for the other noble members of this forum. The comments of "Anderson FTS" and Adrianerik are just brilliant and my kudos to them for analyzing and responding to my question. Adrian came out with another thought provoking question : Isn't the topic "authoritarianism"?

As to Ricardo´s statement in the Elite forum:

As I said a number of times on my writings over the years - many Americans for some reason have lost their capability to think and reason. (I usually got a bunch of nasty email from readers when I said that.)

My question: "Only the Americans have lost their capability to think and reason"?

why do we have to compare ?
written by asp, June 30, 2010
cant we just look at the reality of what is happening right now in south america without having to compare it to other realities of other eras ?

i am not taking a position for or against dilma , right now, i am a spectator and that is why augustus's article has some interest , because he is bringing up issues that are worth noting.

past dictatorships or polocies have nothing to do with the web of the south american dynamic around chaves and what is happening with coke and crack cocaine flooding into brazil.

does anyone on here deny now that farc isnt involved in a deep way with flooding crack cocaine into brazil ?

does anyone on here deny that chaves isnt a supporter of the farc? and lets them flow into his country to deal into brazil ?

without condemning dilma, i say, certainly, that , for any polititian to not ackowledge what chavez and the farc are doing to their immediate territory, and , the very real affect its having on brazil, with almost daily crack busts where i live reported on the news (unheard of 10 years ago), is being hypocritical and not facing things that are actualy major problems that have to be addressed.

i can onlo hope that dilma will address this if she is elected, if not, the seriousness of this problem just gets worse and worse
Today we should also add "Cuba" to this list.

PART-1 Answering Adrianerik: the issue of Authoritarianism
written by Augustus, June 30, 2010
Adrianerik - Your Answer

In my effort to be thorough and in order to be poised to deflect the unavoidable massive amount of deadly volleys which are customarily thrown against any Right of the center oriented writer who is sufficiently bold to submit an editorial at a blog dominated by leftist users, my article contains an introductory portion designed to outline the various human components which should satisfactorily justify the main reasons why ANY authoritarian government should be avoided at any cost. It further questions the wisdom and/or the honesty of many so-called scholars (whom I label as demagogues), who naively overlook or deliberately conc the eal such factors from his/her audience whenever clamoring the benefits of any such political philosophies; as they consistently go about to various web sites spreading poisonous views coated with silver-lining on a mission to persuade or otherwise influence as many innocent minds as possible. Finally, once this important pre-requisite was deemed adequately satisfied, my humble editorial proceeds into the main objective of my analysis: to equate the profile and socio-political outlook of Ms Rousseff with that of Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez, immediately after demonstrating the extent of his deceptive maneuvers while he was but a humble, docile presidential candidate.
Answering your first observation, you are absolutely correct when stating:

QUOTE
Isn't "authoritarianism" the topic of your article? The entire theoretical underpinnings of your article against authoritarian structures apply to much more than socialism, don't they. And (forgive my impertinence), but a study of history shows that from Hobbes (16th century writer of Leviathan, rationalizing power in the king based upon the people), to the non-socialist, authoritarian regimes of Robespierrre, Napoleon, Cromwell and his Puritans, Hitler, the Sarneys, the ACMS, the caudillos in Latin America, Nixon and Reagan in America, all proving that lies, restriction of democratic liberty, censorship of the press, restriction of alternative viewpoints, restriction of opposition political parties, violent crackdown on opposition, etc have been practiced just as much by fascists regimes based upon "elites" who feel that their 'education' and upbringing entitles them to piss upon and even reject democratic fundamentals of "one person, one vote"

UNQUOTE

Without any shadow of a doubt, my critique is applicable NOT only to Socialist (or as it’s better known Marxism-Leninism) in the extreme left, as well as to the absolute monarchies of the “Ancient Regime” and to all versions of Fascism which includes National Socialism (or Nazism) in the extreme right of the political spectrum. As to the various leaders and regimes you have brilliantly quoted across centuries of the History of the Western Civilization, the very horrific human faults were at play, including the more modern cases of Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan (and I would also include George W Bush) of the United States of America. HOWEVER, you seemed to have overlooked the additional aspect of my assessment, namely the massive use of CENSORSHIP (thereby automatically overlooking the impact of a voraciously cunning independent press, more than willing & permitted to expose every dirt it can find, along with the freedom of speech of every citizen), and the complete absence of POLITICAL OPPOSITION as well as an INDEPENDENT JUDICIARY (thereby overlooking the sacrosanct benefit of Checks & balances), both details which are completely ABSENT under Facist/National Socialist, as well as under Absolute Monarchies and most certainly under Socialist/Communist political systems.

PART-2 Answering Adrianerik: the issue of Authoritarianism
written by Augustus, June 30, 2010
(CONTINUED FROM PART 1 above)

Because under multi-party political systems (regardless if they are Confederations/ Federal Republics or Constitutional Parliamentary Monarchies), whenever the horrific and unavoidable human flaws come into play, their perpetrators may perhaps be in a position to conceal their illegal acts (theft, embezzlement, extortion, blackmail or even torture & murder), thereby giving the impression that the system was beaten. However, sooner or later the existing mechanism of a Western democracy will permit “whistle-blowers” and/or concealed agents to expose such crime, which will then be freely published across society and be the subject of endless commentaries, ending with the prosecution and eventual imprisonment of the parties responsible for any such crime.

The absence of these mechanisms is precisely the greatest flaws of the socialist demagogues who go to great efforts pointing fingers to the acknowledged flaws that are permitted to emerge due to the very system the have the audacity of hypocritically criticize. Indeed, for under the “authority of their valiant socialist heroes” any courageous person who has the audacity to report a given crime will either disappear into a labor camp without any trial, or be subject of coercive measures whereby family members may be placed at risk, or certain medication will cease to be available, not to mention the security and future of one’s children. Besides, even if this unfortunate socialist whistle blower were able to report any crime against all odds, the authoritarian structure of the state, would ensure that the issue would NEVER BE broadcast or massively assuage thereby making it impossible for the extent of the crime and (all of) the actual perpetrators could be duly punished.

Hello Ederson
Since I never had the pleasure to make your acquaintance, I dare presuming that you have join the rank & file of JOAO's Realm of Brazzil.COM during the past 9 -10 months, which is about the amount of time I have been absent from these "pages" (with the exception of a brief stop a few months ago, when I certified that although I could not state that I was issued a "Persona-Non-Grata" status, I did not feel exactly exceedingly welcome)

In connection with your not-so-amusing suggestion, regarding a certain INFAMOUS Coha member, I must confess that, I had the misfortune of making his acquaintance several months ago, while I was still a "regular visitor" of this site. At any rate, I must also admit that your "distressing remark" LOL would have some residue of reality, in as much as there would have been less than pleasant exchanges after a relatively short period of time of having the misfortune of being locked in a room with that "individual".

Yet, in all fairness to the so-called "Coha intellectual" I will admit that I have may certify that the extent of this gentleman's ideological views & opinions are just as strong & unwavering as mine, whereas his academic background (though not necessarily his overall knowledge database) possibly surpasses mine.

Consequently, I would strongly suggest you avoid underestimating Mr. Cata or any other "leftist ideologue", for many of them tend to be NOT ONLY extremely cunning & well educated, but they may also have undergone (or been exposed to) the typically deceptive tactics quintessential for any intellectual, activist, or agent of extreme ideological philosophies, in order to be poised to counter their opponents with less than accurate data, distorted information and cleverly manipulated circumstances, in order to attempt to portray they system in a positive light, in spite of its irrefutable flaws and endless volumes of evidence against their oppressive, totalitarian political persuasion.

PART-1: REMARK FOR JOAO /// followed by a fictitious scenario - Latin American History 2011-2014
written by Augustus, June 30, 2010
As you may know or perhaps might somehow anticipate, Brazzil.com has always been a place for which I held (and always will hold) a "special consideration within my heart" - in view of the fact that it was my first REAL-LONG TERM exposure to regular/continuous direct virtual interaction within this odd & relatively new type of "universe" --- Cyberspace, the bizarre fictitious world where literally everything is VIRTUAL…

Notwithstanding my undeniable affection and recognition for this blog, after less than 48 hours of resumed interaction with the virtual individuals here (never losing sight of the considerable history, and shared events we have experienced), I find my excessively emotional side attempting to remind me why I have decided suddenly, about 9-10 months ago to seek alternative "cyber shores" so to speak... Considering our relatively long history here, I thought I should bring these thoughts to your kind attention, naively hoping that you might perhaps consider shedding some light upon this issue.

Interestingly, I am amazed for realizing that I AM DEVIATING AWAY FROM THE MAIN TOPIC myself!!! How odd is it? I caught myself straying from the very path I expect us to follow, deviating from my very own topic... How ironic...
Given what I have read so far, I suppose I should simply leave your beloved Dilma Rousseff alone, without any further interference with the shocking “COLLECTIVE Rosy Dream in Never-land”, which many Brazilians appears to uphold in spite of so much evidence to the contrary… I t seems like most of you have become a group of happy ostriches...
Well, under the circumstances, perhaps I should follow the example of our old (excessively) religious friend, and just take a step back, get a comfortable seat, with a nice bag o Pop-Corn and watch the dramatic spectacles unfold within the Latin American theater from afar… Unfortunately, I truly fear that most that I will cry about witnessing, will start unfolding as a results of distressing events that will be triggered by a combination of coordinated events by Dilma, Chavez, Morales, Castro, Kirschner and the other puppets from Ecuador & Nicaragua. No doubt some drastic evnts will start unfolding in copy-cat format in Brazil & Uruguay (as they have already started in Argentina), while other events – even more dramatic will enter later stages of Revolutionary Cleansing (if you will) within the locations where the Bolivarian Revolution is further ahead along the Red pathway – at which places one would witness the final tightening of the flow of information, along with third or fourth round of private property, all in the midst of growing urban warfare within the major Brazilian & even some Argentinean metropolitan areas... Than at some point, perhaps following a suggestion from Caracas, allegations will be made against someone or (better yet) groups of Private News and/or TV Networks in the Brazil (perhaps simultaneously with Uruguay, Argentina & Paraguay…. Then somehow evidence which will shockingly substantiate the allegations (as if out of thin air) against the very group of individuals and/or institutions from the Media in these countries, thereby providing the governments involved with the necessary (hoped for) excuse to revoke their license(s) along with final prohibition of ever re-opening… TO BE SURE, such series of dramatic events would undoubtedly provide these RULERS with the additional (sought) excuse to implement significantly TIGHTER measures vis-à-vis CENSORSHIP, all of which will be explained in all STATE TV BROADCASTS would be done in the name of NATIONAL SECRURITY.
PART-2: REMARK FOR JOAO /// followed by a fictitious scenario - Latin American History 2011-2014
written by Augustus, June 30, 2010
Perhaps at this point, there might emerge groups of valiant, heroic individuals , all of whom distressed by having finally awaken to the sad reality they had forbidden themselves to believe..(just a year or two ago), and will decide to establish meetings, and set up broad protest against a series of measures within in the Southern & Southeastern states, along with comments from the military belatedly AWAKEN in support of the expressed concerns voiced by a leader here o there… , at which point, the supporters of LULA & DILMA would THEN show the true colors by urging their true friends to storm into the streets to defend their beloved leaders against the forces of REACTION, and perhaps even start with the physical attacks upon the evil REACTIONARIES, might then be LABELLED as “Enemies of the Poeople” OR PERHAPS “Enemies of the NEW BRAZIL”. Under the circumstances, violence would by then be naturally widespread and RISING, perhaps even some few students (perhaps not yet) might have started to rebel, - but those would surely suppressed with some violence... thus drawing LOUD CALLS OF PRAISE with full brotherly solidarity from the peoples of Venezuela, Cuba & Bolivia.... At this point, everything would also be breaking loose in Argentina, which might by late 2011 have already declared some version of "estado de sitio" (= nobody allowed into the streets between 6pm-7am, along with continued abuses and total takeover in VENEZUELA, BOLIVIA & NICARAGUA of the remaining private properties along with the inevitable imposition of additional restrictions to the movement of individuals in those countries where TOTAL Censorship of the media & networks would have already been fully implemented...
At such point in time, I would estimate late 2012, while Mr. Cato (and his “likes”) would no longer be me mere “Intellectuals of Fringe Orgnizations, but rather Ministers of Education, Communications , or even Interior/Foreign Affairs within the nations of the original ALBA Group, and would be assisting their SUPREME LEADERS to set up WONERFUL examples of the greater freedoms Latin Americans had valiantly achieved due to their courageous REVOLUTIONARY PATH towards TRUE DEMOCRACY, while people in Caracas, Quito, Santa Cruz de La Sierra & Managua started queuing for basic goods and services, establishing black markets, offering their services to act as BLOC Monitors to the security office so that they could increase the SOCIALIST INCOME with all the bribes they would be able to EXTORT from horrifying citizens who would have no means to report them to the authorities, lest they become labeled “anti-social” and “suffer the consequences”…… By then, with the exception of Chile, Peru, Colombia, Costa Rica, Honduras & Mexico, the remaining countries of Latin America would have fallen under the TIGHT GRIP OF BOLIVARIAN BROTHERHOOD & COLLECTIVE SECURITY, yet with some variations due the differing stages of their QUIET REVOLUTIONS. At this point in time, or immediately thereafter, it might have been determined that sufficient socialist progress had already be secured in order for the GROUP OF ELECTED DICTATORS to get together in SUCRE, BOLIVIA in order to take FIRST STEPS towards the rapid implementation of THE CSRLA- CONFEDERATION OF SOCIALST REPUBLICS OF LATIN AMERICA, with a capital in SUCRE. Interestingly, at that point in time it is conceivable that these Great Revolutionary Leaders might have decided to indulge their peoples with the HISTORICAL announcement of the Festivities for the formal inception ceremonies of the new CSRLA In conformity with draft agreements (secretly) established during the meetings (for example) of 1998 or 2002) at the SAO PAULO FORUM...
AT THIS LOVELY POINT IN A VERY SAD TIME, MY DEAR FRIENDS.... in spite of my exceeding sadness, I would possibly be willing to pay anything (remaining - given the fact that the rest of the world would also be facing massive economic turmoil) to see the surprised faces of those who naively refused to at least consider the trends and possibilities I had the audacity to suggest… Pity it would then be TOO LATE!
smilies/cry.gif
sure , augustus, that is one posible scenario...
written by asp, June 30, 2010
and, im glad you described it , so if it goes that direction, people here can see the signs...

one thing i would offer up to you , that is unfolding now is, bufoonish chavez is starting to be seen for the clown he is, and, is slowly in decline and demonstrating the failure that he is...

after all, here was a guy who had billions to throw around, and, he bragged about it and did imperialisticly send suitcases of money to potential political colleagues.

here was a guy who was starting to succesfully shut down the opisition media and gain unlimited power and started making those all encombassing mandates of what the people can do and not do

but, he is falling into the abyss of failure and deception. his country is wallowing in his failed policies, and, his clandestine support and liasons with people like farc, has been done so well that all of a sudden, the excess success of the coke/arms dealing of his darling freedom fighters, has brought serious decay and violence to the fabric of brazilian society, highlighting the repercusions of letting this kind of colaborating go wild.

people can see his failures up close and are feeling the affects of his under the table ties to these drug dealing kidnapping thugs, which has turned out to be his real "bolivian revolution"...

there are some signs that he is petering out , for sure seeking his own leval of bufoonery , inspite of oliver stone and the new dummies who will be spiten with the romantic notion his film will certainly portray.

so, pass the pop corn and we can sit back and watch this outcome...you have to admit, watching the world from south america is one privaliged point of veiw to see what is going on for the future of the world ...

i beleive brazil will sail through all of it , and, continue to take its rightful place as the leader of south america...

i beleive if they went 8years with lula and didnt become chavez, that even dilma could be elected and they still will not go like chavez (my hope anyway, and, i am paying big attention to what you say, augustus, and am glad you are saying it ).....i also beleive they will win the world cup...

@Fabianoasc,

Dear friend, you have hit the nail with the right hammer. The problem does not entirely reside on whether or not Dilma will perform decently for the brazilian people, THE PROBLEM AT HAND is that she will encourage, motivate, assist, contibute, support and even "roll in the hay" with this madman (Sir H. Chávez) and his close peers continue misbehaving in our Continent as he has done in the past. As it seems, sooner or later; throughout the entire World.
Therefore, I see appropiate everyone gets involved in this kind of endevour with the only hope that no other true democracies succumb to this false ideology which has spread like wild fire. We all await for the right group to play the unique "samba".

Thank you Augustus for your tue determination which does not have deaf ears in many parts of the World ...

Just 28 times more than the UK, and 4 times more than the USA.

And the Enemies of the NEW BRAZIL ?
Wellll....they are there already.
IN THE THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS FAVELAS !

Dilma and her sucessor....Robbing Hook...better kill them ALL !
And destroy the favelas.
So that at the end of 2022, after Robbing Hook new 2 mandates could finally retire peacefully and tell the World "You see....I eliminated POVERTY IN BRAZIL AND like Obama I deserve the Nobel Peace Prize"

It will be fun, because Brazil finally will have zero poverty and zero favelas while America will have tens of millions more poors and thousands and thousands of favelas.

Then Obama too will look to be re-elected and copy Robbing Hook !
By killing tens millions of Americans that HE made poors during his actual mandate.

Obama and Americans NEW motto is now...
YESSSS WE CAN....CREATE MORE POVERTY IN AMERICA !
YESSSS WE CAN'T...REDUCE ANYMORE OUR DEBTS !

And Bernanke motto
YESSSS WE CANT PRINT MORE MONEY......AS FAST AS NEEDED !

Brazil is the economic jewel of the Southern Hemisphere. With a mixture of agricultural, mining, manufacturing, and service sectors, Brazil is one of the more diversified emerging markets.
Brazil dominates Latin America with its rich natural resources. It accounts for most of the world’s soybean trade and nearly 80 percent of global orange juice production. Brazil is also one of the few Western hemisphere countries that is energy independent — thanks to ethanol, abundant oil reserves, and hydroelectric power.
But Brazil isn’t satisfied with its inherited resources. Instead, the Brazilian economy is improving nearly every year …U.S.-backed General Motors (GM) just opened up a $100 million facility in São Caetano do Sul. It’s one of five global product development sites the car maker runs. GM sees the growth potential of the Brazilian auto market and the cheaper skilled labor force Brazil offers.
The famous Christ the Redeemer statue has been overlooking this Brazilian harbor for nearly 80 years and is now overlooking a bustling economy. The famous Christ the Redeemer statue has been overlooking this Brazilian harbor for nearly 80 years and is now overlooking a bustling economy. But GM isn’t alone …Fiat, Volkswagen, and Ford are investing in Brazilian engineering and design capacity. That’s because Brazil is expanding its infrastructure. With the expansion, forests are being cleared, roads are being built, and cars are being sold to an employable population. And with each new mile of road being laid, another car is driven by a happy employee on their way to work in the new Brazil. So it’s no surprise that as the U.S. auto market shrank in 2009, vehicle sales in Brazil grew 11 percent.
Europe is crashing. Go with winners..socialist or not.

Comming from someone that seems to be a connoisseur on Brazilian matters, all you have said sound very true. BUT The reality is that "booming Brazil" is not thanks to the latest governments, it is thanks to the weight of its own ... Any Economist knows that.

The question is WHY IN HELL WOULD A REASONABLE BRAZILIAN PERSON PREFER OR EVEN VOTE FOR A SOCIALIST BOLIVARIAN AGENDA RATHER THAN A MORE ROBUST GOVERNMENT?. The answer my fellow friends, as many of my peers and my self believe; Brazil has not compromised its own might YET but, it will if this Latinamerican strugle continues. And it will be then, after facts when its people realize that they have made a big mistake by trusting their wallets to the communists parties around ...

Naturally we concur Carlos, as customary... The main issue here is that Brazil has developped a great Political "divider" which reflects a much older "internal line" which has for many decades distinguished the much more prosperous, mostly European, and industrialized Southeastern & Southern regions FROM a poorer, underdevelopped and agricultural northeaster region (which has a growing population).
Whereas most people in the Southern Regions of the country may be more inclined to share some of our views (with the exception of JOAO of course-lol), in the Northeast (which is the native area of the Populist Lula (as well as in the North (mostly the Amazon), the people (mostly under/un-educated) tend to blindly follow their beloved Lula and fall pray to the deceptive maneuvers and corrupt practices of PT (and its main ally PMDB), including the typically correupt Populist style, promoting personality worship, vote exchange for goods, etc)

IF there are two features I may wholeheartedly assert that truly miss about my previous experiences within BRAZZIL.COM they would undoubtedly consist of this blog's natural (and obvious) nature/set up, where I have always had the opportunity to continuously exercise one of my favorite activities, namely, composing various essays regarding a wide variety of fascinating subjects. Such interest was always particularly enhanced by the nature of its main topics, given the fact they coincide with my favorite topics: politics, international Affairs, and my recently re-discovered passion for our beloved country (including its culture as well as its chaotic & corrupt political landscape). In addition I often miss the intense debates over surprisingly unexpected and controversial articles.

In YouTube, however, after my original fascination with the huge amount of videos available, I must admit that I was initially just very impressed by the overwhelming size & diversity of its members which immediately enticed and captivated my natural penchant towards cultural, political and political issues; hence, I suppose I was allured by a fascinating mix which appeared as the very embodiment of a “Global Cosmopolitan Mini-Universe”. With that said, after befriending wonderful like-minded members from Brazil, Argentina (and other Latin American Nations), as well as many European nations, in no time I found myself consumed in a wide range of social, political and even controversial situations which kept me rather busy (and with a good deal of trouble) for quite some time...

Furthermore, in direct response to your supposition, although I was indeed originally associated directly with fellow supporters of various Pro-Monarchy movements from various countries (specially Brazilian), I have also built a “bridge to my ancient personal roots” in PORTU-GALIZA (a region comprising Northern Portugal & Northeastern Spain) where I was overtaken by a great deal of rather emotional historical discoveries, which touch my heart and soul. Most importantly, at some point I have realized that I had the fortune of identifying a very special niche within that huge mini-world, as a promoter of Cultural, Political & scientific information for dozens of friends & subscribers who regularly expressed surprising enthusiasm & even (virtual) affection towards my overall efforts of uploading large numbers of a wide variety of videos (along with rich additional written detail). Interestingly I was even involved in what could be considered "diplomatic efforts" (unfortunately not yet successful) towards the aspiration of assuaging a surprisingly fratricide “war” which has been going on within YouTube between Brazilian & Portuguese channels for quite some time.

Finally my role as a Latin American Political activist which has opened my eyes towards several nearly unbelievable matters which have been impacting & shaping the way many key world events have unfolded during past century, and which has had enormous effect upon Latin America during the past few decades ( and particularly our country) in ways that most people could never conceive… In fact, it is precisely because of some of these very serious issues that I feel compelled to return here, from time to time, with valiant efforts to alert & inform my old friends with as much information as I am permitted to disclose. Needless to mention, my main objective has always been to be poised to make minor contributions towards the best possible political future and general welfare of the Brazilian people, which shall hopefully be permitted to proceed happily along the pathway to a greater & better future in peace and LIBERTY!

You are Sooooo WRONG !

Facts are that
- MOST South americans countries had a HIGHER economic growth rate on average than the Braz-zeroes.
- from 2003 to 2006 Brazil had a LOW economic growth rate. So shameful....that Robbing Hook....changed the methodology !!! SHORT MEMORY ? And of course the new methodology gave a HIGHER growth rate, including for the previous years....funnily !

As to the foreign cars makers in Brazil...YOU ARE A PLANET AWAY OF REALITY !!!!!!
The true reason is because the Braz-zeroes charge OVER 100 % IMPORT TAX, on foreign cars !

Think about it...if you can !

Last but not least on the APPARENT PROWESS of the Braz-zeroes :
YOU are the only BRIC country....WITHOUT A LOCAL CARS MANUFACTURERS !
Zilch...and you pretend you are soooooooo developed and such a jewel ! Far less than India in the technology. Far less than India in the drugs sector !
Far less than India in the software sector. Far less than India in the nuclear sector !
Ohhhh you cant evden produce LOCOMOTIVES...but just wagons !
And 90 % of your seeds are produced by FOREIGN companies...if you did not know.
So what would Be your grains competivity WITHOUT the seeds made by foreign companies ????? And how would you transport them ? With horses ?

Anyway.....FEEL FREE to caress your navel. But in my view you should better scratch your head !

Ohhhh and on your sugarcane prowess you are so developed that over 50 % of your harvest is STILL DONE....MANUALLY !
And this despite sugarcane harvesters exist for DECADES !

Laughs...laughs...laughs...laughs !

And your airports security "World Best engineers" installed fuel tanks at the landing area of CONGO-NAZE ! Short memory ????
And short memory when your wengineers sent top the USA the black box ? It was only a part of the WING....but not the black box !

You really deserve the nickname of BRAZ-ZEROES.....for sure !

I could continue on and on and on...if you wish ! Such as the pesticides your farmers use. MOSTLY FOREIGNERS ALSO !

In conclusion.....developed nations provide the braz-zeroes with the INPUTS and the money.... and the braz-zeroes just follow the enclosed manuals !

And believe it or not the braz-zeroes DONT HAVE THE HIGHEST GDP PER CAPITA, neither in South America and not even in Mercosur.
Just for Mercosur, Argentina and Uruguay have a higher GDP per capita than the braz-zeroes.
And if I include Venezuela....the braz-zeroes are poorer not wealthier....wether you like or not !
And Chile too has a higher GDP PER CAPITA than the braz-zeroes !

So in South America alone, at least 4...yesss FOUR....countries outperform the braz-zeroes !
But reading the braz-zeroes they are 1000000000000 % sure they are the best !
Yesssss....but...but...but....only the best IDIOTS...until proven otherwise.
And I challenge any braz-zeroes to prove me wrong with facts...NOT PRETENTIONS.

WAKE UP...BRAZ-ZEROES !
And to Augustus "our wonderful, peaceful and happy country ..."
written by ch.c, July 02, 2010
Ohhhh yesssss so wonderful your 20'000 of favelas or so.
And so peaceful & happy that the brazilian crime rate is 4 times the USA on a per 100'000 capita !

Augustus, at times I wonder what you have sniffed while writing some of your comments. ETHANOL ?

Ohhhh and by the way, as a Brazilian yourself, why dont you return to your country of origin as it is Sooooooooo wonderful, peaceful and happy country ???? And economically BOOMING....contrary to the country you actually resides...namely the USA.

In my humble view, at times, I also wonder if you are not paid by a brazilian political party with their Caïxa 4 or 5 to write DIS-INFORMATIONS AND FAIRY TALES...ABOUT BRAZIL !
Such as those in COHA...for example !

I know how brazilians are so proud of their "superiority" and nationalism.
Suffice to look at the millions of citizens wearing yellow and green T-shirts.....DAILY !

Augustus or better yet Lord Augustus as Joao nicknamed you a while ago, no doubt you master very well you writings.
A well deserved nickname as you finally disclosed "although I was indeed originally associated directly with fellow supporters of various Pro-Monarchy movements from various countries (specially Brazilian), "
MAY I SUGGEST YOU TO DO AN EFFORT IN COMPARATIVE STATS AND FACTS.
wHY ? Because that is where the SAD TRUTHS ARE !
And everything else is just worth A BRAZILIAN CENTAVO !

Feel free to ignore my critics ! Even more so....after so many idiots above told you that you are so great, bright and right !
You better buy some cheap detergent to disinfect your navel....NOW !

Okay, so Brasil has a poorly developed railway infrastructure, and maybe Brasil is a little behind the rest of the world in a lot of areas concerning technology, especially when compared to such technological advanced wonders as India, and so we like to cut our sugar cane by hand, but you just wait until we get our new French fighter planes, French submarines, French helicopters, refurbished French aircraft carrier, 's'. If that doesn't impress the United Nations, what will?smilies/wink.gif In addition, can anyone think of a better way to invest a surplus than by giving it to the French for their job's programs? Even the French call Brasil a "Strategic Ally." When was the last time France called Switzerland a strategic ally?

FARC, open borders, alliances with socialists, investments in infrastructure and technology? Those things rarely make the international headlines, especially when an economic alliance with Iran offers so much more international publicity for Brasil's leaders.

Besides i watched how many reactions your article caused and this means always it was a GOOD artice..... in your case a VERY good one....!!

I just can repeat me and say , dear friend, you created with this piece really an awesome article which helps to make the people think and see the truth....and who doesn't see ....or want to see the truth....(and WHY is an important question he does so).. well...this is an other subject..

When was the last time France called Switzerland a strategic ally?

While I wouldn't call this a brilliant question, it is indeed a valid one put forth to ch.c. Probably you must be aware that, a couple of weeks ago, the French President ordered his Swiss counterpart to cancel a scheduled state visit, because he had to receive the captain of the defeated French soccer team on that particular day.

On the contrary, Ms. Roussef went on an unscheduled visit to Paris on the day of the World Cup opening to watch the first game along with our ex-pats. The following day Mr.Sarkoski promptly received and treated her as a visiting dignitory. It shows how much importance he places on this budding "strategic Alliance". smilies/wink.gif

Sorry, Joao. As a beginning blog member and a peasant intellectual, you can't expect far-ranging insights from me. I'm lucky to get through the day as well as I do.smilies/wink.gif However, I am broadening my intellectual horizons over time. For instance, to condition myself to becoming a strategic ally of France, I've begun learning a little French vocabulary. My first words are "garbage" and "surrender," both of which I understand are important words in the French lexicon.
As for the Swiss, I have abandoned any pride I have for any ancestry connected to them and speak proudly of the ancestors that had the courage to leave.smilies/cheesy.gif Whenever I think of Switzerland, the only things of note that I can associate with them are candy bars and Herbert Hoover, who unfortunately was something of a relative, however distant.
Still, I have to admit that any encounter with ch.c, makes my day.smilies/cheesy.gif
I love listening to the insights of someone who has never milked a cow, driven a farm tractor, or schucked corn. Cripes, now he's even complaining about cutting sugar cane by hand!smilies/cheesy.gif I'd enjoy learning from him as to what spray plane the Swiss ever manufactured.

Thus with my sarcasm "what spray brazilian planes ever participated in wars ?"
Certainly not in Vietnam. Hmmm...hmmmm ! smilies/grin.gif
You are not even able to produce ethanol bombs ! Ethanol bombs to burn your sugarcane fields before harvest. Manual sugarcane harvest needs burning FIRST !
And no field burning...when mechanically harvested....if you did not know...You Ederson the new braz-zero who pretend to know about farming, harvesting and spraying !

And about schucking corn...the question is why should I ?
There are mechanical harvesters for grains just as there is mechanical harvesters for sugarcane.
Someone funny...that those still schucking corn and harvesting sugarcane MANUALLY are so pretentious...about their technology and competitive production ! Ahhh...ahhhh !

Anyway...these are the Braz-zeroes. Nothing will ever change them.

Last but not least : BRAZIL OUT..at the world cup.

Enjoy your grains production !
Enjoy your Sooo developed infrastructure.
And contrary to Robbing Hook, his predecessors and his succesors PAST, PRESENT OR FUTURE PROMISES FULL OF LIES...IT IS NOT GOING TO BE THAT MUCH BETTER IN THE YEARS AHEAD.
Because simple common sense comes down to this :
How can a country having nearly all the times the World Highest Interests Rates AFTER INFLATION....really develops its long term infrastructure projects ?
By paying the World Highest Interests Rates AFTER INFLATION ?
Come on, come on. Forget it.
And their promises will remain promises. Just as the 30 years promises to pave BR 163, not yet paved.

No doubt that in Brazil...populism will always win.
Easier and so much cheaper...by definition.... to promise promise and promise again than deliver on its promises.
Even Robbing Hook promised seversl times to pave BR 163.
Still not paved when he will leave office after 8 years of..promises.

ch.c, I won't let you get away with calling anything made by PILATUS a spray plane!smilies/cheesy.gif Good try, however.
Sorry, I can't answer your question concerning what spray plane was used in a war, either, unless you count the Fairchild C-123 in Vietnam or the Fairchild-Pilatus PC-6 as used by Air America, but neither were designed as spray planes. Nor have I ever heard of an ethanol bomb. However, once every ten years, I paddle my canoe down the river toward town, where I have relatives who can read and write. The Potential Tactics for Tyrants-in-wating:- a massive network of inconspicuous & neutral infiltrators - posing as "Mr./Ms Nice"
written by Augustus, July 02, 2010
Any potential dictator or authoritarian political party secretly aspiring to secure absolute power of any Key Latin American country without engaging dramatic popular revolutions or military backed coup d’états must necessarily proceed cautiously along carefully planned pathways that would require a wide range of effective tools that are capable of remaining absolutely secret for an extended period of time. One of the most important apparatus that would be necessary for such an ambitious long-term project would consist of the ability to discretely influence and manipulate various key institutions, private conglomerates, every branch of the armed forces as well as various sources of crucial telecommunications/internet based conglomerates - ranging from the traditional sector containing TV Networks and Newspapers into the relatively modern High-Tec centers including Websites, blogs and major chat rooms. This crucially important and highly secret operation would consist of placing inconspicuous, docile and exceedingly astute Super Agents who would, for the most part, remain dormant within their targeted organization, but established a very secure and efficient line of communications in order to transmit, to specific parties within a command chain, the foremost trends, the overall fears and general expectations of society along with the identify potential “trouble-makers” adherent to opposing political philosophies, all of whom would necessitate not only close monitoring, but would also be place of some possible “special handing” list.

In order for these Super Secret Operatives to effectively infiltrate an organization, a social club, a Blog or "Chat Room" they should never hold any prominent or highly visible position (e.g. CEO, Director, or Head Manager, High Rank Military officer, aristocrat or major share-holder), since the unavoidable scrutiny these positions undergo, might unnecessarily expose the entire scheme would not require necessarily the election for the presidency or chief operating officer or director; in fact, one would not need to be a share holder, a member of the military, an aristocrat or even the head of a labor union as the case may be. Rather, any such “player” would have to portray an inconspicuous profile (for instance: an impoverished blue-color worker, a low-lever manager, or even a member of the cleaning stuff) who would appear either as a simpleton, or a joker-figure, a popular “Mr. Nice-Guy” or a shy, recluse individual with the ability to cover his/her tracks, conceal the true colors, and to demonstrate absolute devotion to his/her superior’s ultimate cause.

These extraordinary agents should be exceptionally clever individuals with a cunning ability to influence, manipulate, impersonate and (in some cases) intimidate a previously a selected group of existing “actors” within their assigned arena, where they would be responsible for keeping his/her eyes constantly opened for the proximity of potentially dangerous or suspicious elements and always ensure that crucial information is rapidly forwarded up the chain of command. Frequently, this “monolithic spy”, might be required to introduce a mole of his own creation, designed to antagonize all parties involved, including those under maintained safely under his wing, thereby creating havoc at any given time in order to intimidate opponents, to intimidate (and eventually jettison) any undesirable outside force, or even to punish any eventual follower or supporter who may have either stepped out of line or proven to be too resilient at any given time. Most importantly, these discrete and exceptionally witty elements must forever (or for as long as feasible) maintain the deceptive outlook of an modest, inconspicuous, and completely harmless low-key fellow, whose friendly stance and political neutrality could be maintained, at any point in time, thoroughly indisputable!

Outfitted with a broad array of strategically placed Secret & Discrete Agents, any aspiring dictator and deceptive political party would surely be poised to obtain significant information from a wide variety of sources way ahead of the great majority of his/her countrymen, and before most existing members of opposing factions could manage to assemble and dissect the same – potentially enormous – amount of data. Furthermore, and perhaps most importantly such tyrants-in-waiting would also be poised to indirectly manipulate countless key factors, players, and circumstances, thereby significantly enhancing, in the long run, the chances for such deceptive stratagem send them victorious, securing complete control of their trusting nation.

In fact so much better that they are exported the World over.
What about the brazilian spraying planes...as per You....the apparent expert ?

As to junkies talking about the French strategic (in fact NON strategic) alliances with my country.... I cant stop laughing laughing and laughing ! WHY ?
I explain :
- my small country, with a 7,8 millions population, does MORE trade with whatever European country...France included...than the MEGA Brazil with its 200 millions population !!!

Therefore.....KEEP TALKING.... Brazzz-zerooooes JUNKIES !
And from our side....WE THE SWISS....will keep ACTING !

And another "little detail" :
From where do Brazzz-zzzeroes junkies believe that ONE THIRD of the World Oil market are traded from ?
LONDON, NEW YORK, PARIS ?
WRONG AGAIN !
The correct answer being...FROM GENEVA/Switzerland.

And finally to the triple idiot talking about Switzerland and their candies....wellll I laugh once more.

More than doubtful in the farest horizon !
Still that is what Brazzz-zerooes will need to export to be equal

Better yet, Our President
- is not elected by We The People, but collegially by the different political parties.
- has a ONE YEAR TERM, and cannot be re-elected for a second consecutive term.
- has noooooo political power when named President.
- has no discretionary budget
- has no vetoe right at all

- does not interfere with political parties divergences or convergence.
- is most of the time also a minister even during his country presidency term.

Your message ran clear and true for me, and I appreciate the time and effort you took to put your ideas into print. What are there for choices for the populace? A popular election with all the broadcast media controlled as well as most of the print (or option to steal / destroy / stop disemination of what actually makes it to print) and a few bandas and a bit of token vote buying is all that there was the last time. Will there be more backroom cheats and excutors of the "peoples will" caught and exposed? Probably. Will it change things much - no. Live and for real tele novelas are just as wonderful to most as the fake ones. Gives them much to chat and complain about but when the voting box has been counted, you can bet it matters naught.

Has the populace mix of paulistas and gauchos doubled / tripled as a percentage of the whole? Will A. Brasillian come down out of he-shes glass tower and go to work on the streets and in the less favorable neighborhoods to enlighten and solicit the support for change to a move in a positive direction?

More of the same-o same-o is the safe bet when it comes to the PBs. There won't be one chant of "the chinamen are coming, the chinamen are coming" just as any public display of alternatives to the continued socialist shift and oligarchial retrenchment will be put down and stopped quickly for "lack of the required permit".

I'll probably watch the hoofala September through November from here this time around although seeing it first hand is a bit more entertaining than the globo/fox news style rendition of what's really happening.
Change.
written by Ederson, July 03, 2010
The nail has been hit directly on the head by Simpleton. Everyone wants change, but the danger is the disguised manner in which the change arrives or reveals itself. It must be the nature of politics everywhere to speak of change and lead the voters down one road while secretly intending to bring change from another road or direction. And it doesn't seem to matter from which country this timeless guessing game is played through. If you name the country, it appears as if the politicians seem to be reading from the same script. Is there any wonder why voter populations everywhere seem to be experiencing political fatigue. Just my opinion.

PT-1: ACKNOWLEDGING HISTORICAL SOCIAL INDUSTICE (IMPLIED BY SIMPLETON) /// ANALYSING THE RESULTS OF A POSSIBLE “CHANGE” ENVISION BY SIMPLETON / CH-C (BASED ON HISORICAL EVIDENCE)
written by Augustus, July 03, 2010
The theme of Social injustice valiantly underscored by the honorable (apparently socialist) Simpleton have been undoubtedly afflicting Humanity ever since our ancient Neolithic ancestors gave up their traditional nomadic way of life for the benefits derived from permanent settlements at the banks of rivers and lakes at the dawn of our current civilization circa 8 – 9,000 years ago. Since the institution of agricultural production gradually evolved from its most rudimentary types where the output was equally divided amount small settlements composed of nearly “equal” settlers (primitive communism) into increasingly more sophisticated methods of large scale output - required to feed growing populations – mankind was compelled to implement the concept of land ownership, thus embarking upon the long, perilous road towards exponentially growing levels of inequality, injustice and oppression of the “Many” by the “Few”.

As of this particular moment of monumental changes, which permitted the rise of the first civilizations in Sumer, Egypt, China and Central America, mankind has planted the roots of the historic, millenary dilemma with the introduction of an underclass of poor peasants/workers who have been continuously exploited, across the ages, by a self-centered/indulgent minority of (secular and religious) owners of the means of production whose immense, growing wealth has been built, maintained and increased due to the labor and sacrifices of an underpaid, subjugated and continuously humiliated group of wretched “sub-humans” at the lowest level of any given social strata, devoid of any power over their lives.

Given the above-referenced summary of human socio-political (and economic) history, it is absolutely unnecessary to prescribe to any extremist political philosophy in order to continue agreeing with the valid claims outlined by Simpleton regarding the plight of the oppressed poorer classes whereby the extreme income disparity between the wealthy bourgeois versus the abused industrial workers, the dramatic distinction between a privileged minority, owners of under-underutilized fields versus millions of landless peasants surviving in abject poverty, and the unfair dissimilarity between overly indulged metropolitan youths attending the best schools versus exploited young agricultural laborers with virtually no access to the existing educational system.
PT-2: ACKNOWLEDGING HISTORICAL SOCIAL INDUSTICE (IMPLIED BY SIMPLETON) /// ANALYSING THE RESULTS OF A POSSIBLE “CHANGE” ENVISION BY SIMPLETON / CH-C (BASED ON HISORICAL EVIDENCE)
written by Augustus, July 03, 2010
Notwithstanding the above-mentioned historical class inequality and social injustice, responsible and well-intended human being who fight for the elimination of these unacceptable condition should take a step back and seriously consider the actual outcome of adopting the noble ideals of exceedingly dangerous and deceptive politico-economic philosophies lest they might permit logic and wisdom to be blinded and overtaken by raw emotions. In order to avoid the inevitable and incalculable blunders that would surely follow decisions to implement an authoritarian (Leninist) system based on Marxism, well intended revolutionaries and/or decision-makers who are not blinded by obsessive ideology should strive to appraise the long-term results of any such consideration, based on extensive historical (and current) data, which would follow a theoretical revolution, namely:
•Establishment of a centralized, governmental body (representing a powerful political oligarchy)
•Suppression of any opposing faction (along with any organization that might be considered reactionary)
•Imposition of censorship in all means of communication (thereby curbing dissemination of all subsequent events)
•Confiscation of all private property (all existing real state, luxury items, arable land and industrial facilities)
•Establishment of Five-Year economic plan (elimination of market forces, estimation of what will be needed)
•Imposition of an official Ideological guideline to which everyone should adhere (including the previously oppressed masses which the revolution allegedly attempts to liberate)
•Adoption of a “free” educational system (with the same previous available resources to be share by every child whereby the quality of such an education would be limited by topics deemed to be in conformity with the previously mentioned ideological guidelines)
•Suppression of free flow of individuals across the national territory
Due to revolutionary measures adopted by the Socialist state, sincere and realist analysis would demonstrate that, within a period about 10 years, the following scenario would be nearly inevitable.
•Massive amounts of confiscated land/property/luxury would mysteriously be assigned to the NEW ELITE, that is the upper echelons of the “Communist Party”, whose privilege members would literally utilize the “state goods” duly assigned or given as compensation for “services rendered to Socialism”. Thus, in essence, there would merely have been a transfer from the previously LEGITIMATE upper class to a new (hypocritically labeled) Socialist (vanguard) Party officials (cars, planes, jewelry, mansions, country houses, etc)
•Massive lags in production activity resulting from two subsequent disastrous 5-Year plans thereby generating shortages on literally every item, causing massive lines for every product, thus requiring families to establish a division of purchases – on individual queuing for hours to buy each groups of items – without guarantee of their availability when reaching the counter to make the actual purpose (all goods likely to have very low quality). Most importantly such abysmal production system would be broadcast as VERY SUCCESSIFUL and used to praise the merits of socialist live (generally with pictures of happy families surrounded by a wide variety of goods)
•The appearance of BLACK MAKETS which would be officially illegal but widely tolerated, as they would benefit the new SOCIALIST elite, where many items would be available at exorbitant prices (unofficial inflation)
•Centrally Appointed Local governing bodies would possess absolute authority to implement and interpret a newly established “democratic / socialist legal system (due to pre-existing personal conflicts, greed, lust, and sheer conceit, multiple cases of coercive methods would generate blackmail, rape and the use of law for the sake of revenge – not to mention theft of any remaining confiscated land/property/ luxuries some of which could be utilized for compensating Bloc Monitors, black marketers, and a wide variety of special services)
•BLOCK /UNIT MONITORS would emerge whereby some secret individuals would exist in every city block or rural sector in order to monitor the activities of his/her neighbors. Such monitors would volunteer in order to attempt to derive personal benefits from the oppressed residents within his/her jurisdiction; whereas others would be coerced into this rule by the use of blackmail or intimidation (threats against one’s family members)
•SPECIAL FOREIGN CURRENCY MARKETS would emerge to serve diplomats and other former residents but which would also be available to the NEW SOCIALIST ELITE

As for the original masses of underprivileged peasants and workers which the NOBLE SOCIALST STATE was created to liberate would continue existing with marginally superior conditions – in some cases; however for the overwhelming majority of the previous underclass the living conditions would possibly worsen since their numbers would now have increased with the members of the ORIGINAL ELITE by virtue of the state confiscations (THEFT). Most importantly, as already mentioned or otherwise implied at my original survey, the resulting nation would have become a labor camp of terrorized individuals surviving on fewer (low quality) items, working long hours with no incentive, and unable to purchase anything with the small amount of (devalued) funds some individuals might manage to save. Daily life would be grim, consisting of long work hours, mostly tainted with neglect, followed by long hours spent queuing to fight over limited goods and services, constant vigilance against invasion of privacy for the sake of generation of intimidation/blackmail and the almost inevitable high rise in alcoholism to compensate a bleak, pointless existence, with fear and without entertainment thereby scarcely meeting the objectives of SIMPLETON, unless of course he were to be nominated a HIGH SOCIALST PARTY OFFICIAL, in which case he would be able to benefit from the fruits of comforts & luxury confiscated from the legitimate elite he used to criticize…

A humble opinion from a simple Brasilian peasant:

You do not "agree with some issues in German politics and hopefully one of them is not regarding the tight fiscal policy Ms.Merckel preaches in lean times. She appears grouchy and unfriendly on the TV, but..but.. I started liking her after reading about her a bit more.

She doesn't claim to be the "mother of this, mother of that, ...etc;". The lady mentioned under Augustus´s article claims to be the "mother" of various things and that really turns off many Brasilian peasants. Knowing the author´s line of thoughts, I think he has asked a valid question: Is the "mother" going to provide strong leadership for the Brasilian "commoners" during the next 4 years without any interference from our "Uncle" next door and our "Great white father"?

Joao, when you said Dr. Cata would be proud of my brilliant comments, I beamed with pride. To make the dear doctor happy makes me happy.
When Augustus mentioned, "continuously humiliated group of 'wretched sub-humans,'" I knew he was speaking of my family from the dawn of creation, so I paid close attention to everything he said; as a result, I have to admit that, again,I agree with his historical perspective.smilies/wink.gif
In addition, I had to agree with his statements concerning the transfer of luxury items, such as cars, country homes, jewelry, land, and planes to the new social vanguard. That's okay, take my house, my home, my tiny farm, my old truck and car, my cow, but if anyone dares think that they are going to take the keys to this peasant's airplane, then they probably haven't given enough thought to the consequences of such a suicidal gesture. Even dim-witted, lethargic peasants have true loves and limits.smilies/wink.gif

You are incredible Augustus, thank you again for your eloquently written insights and leading thoughts from the historical perspective. I do so much enjoy the Lord Loy Cata's writting skills as well not that I agree with him much. Buarque articles? Sorry there ch.c, from time to time I do find there is a very very deeply buried thread of inherent "rightness" sometimes hidden in them but Buarque himself probably doesn't even see that, is completely unable to bring those out and thence ends up burying himself with superficial BS that leads you and others to crucify him verses digging / seeing deeper into matters worthy of discussion.

Just to clear one thing up Augustus. I am firmly in the throng which you claim is your stance - right of center. My tendancy to jump on opportunities to play devil's advocate, philanthropist, and whatnot should not be mistaken for some kind of wishy-washy, blowing in the wind basis of my underlying character. The only socialist natured infrastructure I have ever found to be "ok" with me is the free emergency room services I've had to use in visits to countries having such state sponsored service arrangements.

I complement ch.c on his consistency and contributions over the years yet he reacts so strongly thinking I don't like him / I am somehow against him or denying him his free rights. Chill and pop a pill dude, I'm on your side. Your tendancy towards deeply cutting barbs, sharpened tangs and peircing darts is what get's the Brasileiro's, ex-pat's and wannabe ex-pat's upset, not the truth which unlies your commentary.

Simpleton - I see... All Well (when/if) It Ends Well
written by Augustus, July 04, 2010
Indeed Simpleton, I had misunderstood your point...
My mistake!

Yet, I am glad it happened, as it got me inspired to outline the end results of a Socialist/Marxist revolution, which was based on the Soviet/Chinese & Eastern European scenarios.

In fact I would like to stress that such scenario differs from what is happening in Venezuela (which is being done more gradually - but which will have the same end results in the end run - possibly within another decade, give/take 5 years) and the North Korean end result (which is far worse, since on top of all the horrors I have described, the citizens are even more oppressed, and compelled to virtually worship their current dictator as a living god, while adore the memory of his ruthless father, being compelled to cry in public upon listening to descriptions of his so-called "valiant sacrifices" for their nation during World War II).

Regardless of the process (revolutionary uprising or gradual transformation), the outcome is basically the same, with variations on the extent of the inevitable resulting oppression, terror and fear... : '(
And that is the danger

The shift towards socialism is inherent in what is going on in the states as well. To the extent it marginally alleviates the suffering of the lower half of the otherwise decent populace (or in the case of Brasil, the lower 80 percent plus) it will slowly and surely pervade with politicos that line up behind it with populace asuaging truth and false reality and lies. I don't want to see my beloved Brasil accelerate further down that pathway but that's what appears to be inevitable on the current course. (BTW, when I am the HIGH SOCIALIST PARTY OFFICIAL, read my lips, I will forgo the luxury car(s), young sexy and accomodating aides de camp, exclusive club memberships, gratis this and gratis thats.)

Scandinavian Eddie? No, but my wife's family heritage hails from Norway. Original "protestant" and Mayflower decendant is my claim to fame if you can call it that (and the parts of orange Irish and green Irish mixed in my genetic backgroung always seems to have me fighting with myself so I am driven philosophically to take all sides or at least contemplate them deeply and judge them lightly!)

Nuevos aires de cambio?
written by adri1430, July 04, 2010
Estimado Augustus,

Thank you so much for your input! (I only wish my knowledge were sufficiently decent to allow me to reply in the same tongue). Naturally, I fully agree with what you have stated, as Argentina would be MORE IMPACTED than any other country, in case Brazilians were to be wise and reject that shameful PT candidate. In this connection, I regret the fact that both female candidates espouse political philosophies which are completely unacceptable, for I would have liked to be in a position to support a lady for the Brazilian presidency... Thanks for your remarks on my essays... Muchisimas Gracias, amiga!

Federal Congressman-PTC refuses to endorse Dilma on Moral Grounds
written by Augustus, July 05, 2010
Esteemed Bloggers, I am delighted to inform that it has been brought to my attention that a senior member of the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies (Federal) belonging to PTC (Christian Workers Party), which is traditionally allied with Dilma's party (PT) formally and officially refused to endorse her candidacy on MORAL GROUNDS, and was adopting a "neutral position", urging his friends, associates and supporters to follow suit and if necessary, remain uncommitted until the final round of votes.

This honorable gentleman - Deputado Federal Paes de Lira - listed, among several issues, his refusal to endorse a candidate with such an abysmal criminal record, which includes association (if not participation) with Bank robberies, murder of Military police in Sao Paulo (in dismal fashion - officers burned alive), among other records (which surely includes kidnapping of the American Ambassador). Smart? Educated? Modest? With a nice sense of humor? Joao and Augustus must be speaking about me!smilies/cheesy.gif But the list of sterling qualities don't end there! I'm the fortunate result of years of selective breeding and a fruitful combination of Dutch, German, Scottish, and Italian bloodlines. [Despite the name, I no longer claim any Swiss ancestrysmilies/cheesy.gif] However, the heart always remains Boer.
I really enjoy this blog and wish my contributions could be more substantial, but it is me learning from you guys, and I certainly am learning. Thanks a great deal and please understand if there are days and discussions when it is best for me to shut up and listen to the experts. Take care.
A lady CEO?
written by Ederson, July 05, 2010
Wasn't a similar question asked by the YANKS, themselves, concerning the election of a president who was of mix-raced ancestry? I remember when the state of Iowa, a predominately white state, went for Obama. There were many commentators who questioned such a decision. Two of the most common discussed possibilities were a desire to show the rest of America that Iowa wasn't racist and the second was attributed to political fatigue, as mentioned by Joao earlier.
I'm not sure either made any sense; perhaps a third could be a sense of hopelessness and a desire to vote between the lesser of many evils. I don't know; it wasn't my fight, but it was interesting.
As always, I agree with Joao.smilies/wink.gif I would rather see a competent leader of the country, regardless of gender, race, whatever. Again, just my opinion.
The issue of a Lady President // JOAO & EDERSON
written by Augustus, July 05, 2010
Naturally (and without any question)that a competent leader (provided his/her ideology may not potentially compromise the future of the nation and the wellbeing of its citizens) is preferable to any other consideration... How could I not agree.

However, my previously expressed "wish" for a competent & ideologically viable FEMALE president had a two-fold purpose, one general & the other specific...
The general principle of seeing Brazil capable of electing a lady for the presidency is connected to what I consider a matter of a nation to demonstrate a level of maturity not only to the outside world, but also to itself (it would would empower Brazilians with the knowledge they were capable of shedding undesirable, primitive notions of sexist - "machista" - behavior).
- The specific matter is entirely PERSONAL, for I happen to believe that FEMALES are by far more sensible, logical and capable of leading departments (of commercial/political bodies), companies, large industrial conglomerates AND NATIONS - E.G. INDIRA GANDHI, GOLDA MEIR, MARGARET TATCHER, ELIZABETH I, KATHERINE THE GREAT, and the last female Empress of Austria (whose name escapes me - the mother of Marie Antoinette) being notable examples.

I hope you now understand the reason for my "passing remark"

Brasil has been electing lady mayors, governors, senators, etc; for a long time. Therefore, the question of machismo does not arise at all.

The specific matter is entirely PERSONAL, for I happen to believe that FEMALES are by far more sensible, logical

You are generalizing, I am afraid. In my professional life, I have run into many FEMALES absolutely illogical, mule headed and stubborn. In fact, a few of them managed to destroy the organizations they were heading.smilies/wink.gif

Will Brazilians Elect a Pro-Bolivarian Former Terrorist as President?

In Brazil is emerging a middle class that is now the majority. This new majority won't tolerate censorship, high taxes or a central government that interfere excessively in their lives. I think that the PT will have to change to survive or the party will perish. The radical leftists are going to be extinct like the dinosaurs.

Eddie, in like and kind I will forgive you for your Italian segment in your genetics. Other than that we are twins - go figure. Let me know if you get serious about planes for use in Brasil. We could go in as partners for the benefit of our pais de preferencia. It would be better for me to get you set up on this end with new instrument panels and avionics, etc. first and possibly Satcom based spray pattern guidance and tracking systems if they are crop dusters - things don't tend to go in long straight rows with regular shaped plots like most of Iowa. Free handing it regarless of how talented the pilots are isn't effective / efficient. The systems I did for the state deparment's Columbian "crop" dusters years ago would be more appropriate (less the ammor plating and special window panels they use of course).
FABIANO - hoping for the best vis-a-vis your last comment
written by Augustus, July 06, 2010
I truly hope you are correct, my dear friend. The only reason why PT has not taken any step BOLDER than they already have so far, must be due to the fact they may have feared the possibility of a Military intervention... Perhaps it has been decided to move cautiously fearing they would not get away with it... On the other hand, now that the Brazilian armed forces have demonstrated to be either unwilling or unable to take drastic steps, as they were in the past, there is no way to be certain that socialists remaining in control of the executive for so long, will continue "playing by the rules"

Thus, as PT officials grow increasingly secure and the influence of H.Chavez grows, along with the apparent "agenda" of the São Paulo forum (all details of which I am certain remain highly classified), I'm afraid there are reasons for concern... Let's hope not...

On a serious note: I have nothing against female professionals nor politicians. I have worked with some fine engineers, professors and other qualified professionals both male and female. I see no difference in their performance (or lack of it).

The author of this article questions the qualifications of the female candidates for their being "leftists". But...but...I have different reasons for doubting their capacity to lead a country like ours. We certainly wouldn't like to see incompetent populist "mothers", "fathers", "aunts", etc; to be elected as the head of the state.

Eddie, so sorry to hear about your impending divorce. Things made with wings were meant to fly and birds of a feather flock together but since man made wings have no feathers they take not kindly to being ruffled. Don't worry, you will get where you ultimately would like to be and she'll likely come around to your way of thinking and risk taking. The big decision can be adjusted somewhat but don't leave it hang out there too long before making a commmitment one way or another - it will run out of gas and crash and you may not be lucky enough to walk away from such a landing to try again some other day. In Brasil what I have learned is if you wait, you lose. It's kind of like the saying "if you snooze you lose" only different and the ones you hear quite often in brasil "nothing lasts forever" or "things will always change" whether that be the colapsing of sand castles, rotting of fine wood decorating your sea side shack or close and personal relationships. If opportunity arises - jump on it with gusto and don't look back.

The reason I cant leave Brasil is because they have the hottest women in the world.

Hiring a good cozinheira would be first on the list of things to do if destination Brasil comes about. Other than one time picking up some icecream to treat some folks, I don't think I've ever purchased any frozen goods down home, why would anyone bother with such crap when you don't have to?

J Mc-Can, as to the 4 - 7 to one ratio, where the heck have you been faking it? It's 13 to 1 if you go to the right places and the one is usually a bit of simpleton with a ridiculous constant smile on his face driving a donkey cart. The smiling is somewhat understandable, he's happy as a lark given he's much in demand and never has to pay gringo. And did you know, in the favela they are all 19 years old regardless. Go ahead and share the family jewels or spread the wealth as you feel is appropriate for you but don't make babies you can't support a dozen or so extra family memebers along with.

Firstly, I would like to thank all of you , for the additional posts under this thread of Brazzil .com, which I consider extremely important to remain under discussion for as long as necessary, in order to increase the awareness of Brazilians and those foreign nationals who reside in (or plan to move to) our lovely “Tropicalia.”
However, I would like to mildly admonish all of you to occasionally deviating excessively from the topic at hand, namely the crucial upcoming Brazilian presidential elections where the current party (PT) governing our country submitted a controversial candidate: an ambitions, strong lady with a criminal record (due to her partaking in subversive activities – inkling theft & kidnapping) and a clear association with the dangerous, populist Venezuelan dictator.
Consequently, it is of the paramount importance that the Brazilian citizens demonstrate having reached the necessary political maturity to overcome deceptive populist manipulations in order to select a candidate who will keep Brazil within the South Western edge of the Western World, of which it has always been a member not only culturally, but also politically. In this connection I would like to remind Judy that, in spite of the significant influence from Africa (by virtue of centuries of slave trade) and a smaller input from the far East (Japanese immigrants), because Latin America was colonized by the two countries in the European Iberian Peninsula (and to a smaller extent, also by England, France and the Netherlands), it has always been essentially an intrinsic (even if poorer) part of the overall Western World.

I am not sure whether there was a larger editorial to which I could not access since I do not subscribe to that particular Newspaper; yet, I saw sufficiently to extrapolate what you are probably trying to imply, namely that "a Matriarch of Rio de Janeiro Elite (the name sounds like some one my late grandmother may have known... not sure) is lending her public support & endorsement to Dilma Rousseff (most likely due to the fact that the poor lady is beyond senile and must be delighted to see a female candidate with chances of being elected).

As such, your article implies that "even the upper crust from Rio de Janeiro" appears to be disregarding the criminal, former terrorist's (thief/assassin/kidnapper) background and most importantly her party's obvious Socialist affiliation thereby perhaps dismissing some of the concerns I raised under the main & subsequent articles posted hereunder...

WELL, JOAO NOT QUITE, MILORD... Political naivety has always been a said reality... This sad CHARADE should be perceived in the SAME light as Mr. Chamberlain's (British Prime Minister in 1939) statement that he was satisfied with Mr. Hitler's reassurance that Germany had no further claims in Europe (after Czecholovakia was gradually swallowed) AND the full support which many wealthy Jews gave to Adolf Hitler before KRISTALL NACHT (when the Nazi's formally launched denunciation & persecution of Jews) because these naive jews were mislead presuming that the Nazis were a fad which would pass but which they could use to "get rid of the communists in Germany".

Therefore, the article you (Joao) recommended could scarcely be given serious consideration, except to be utilized as an example of HUMAN STUPIDITY

. Prior to any consideration, view or opinion, I would like to ensure that you (and everyone) be aware that my modest (yet sincere & heart-felt) editorial was unhinged of any type of political affiliation (as there is NO such entity in Brazil or anywhere else on Earth) which I may honestly state that I wholeheartedly support. Likewise, I must make it clear that I never endeavored (or considered possessing the ability) to influence the Brazilian electorate, for my name (Nom de Plume) is scarcely known in Brazil, thereby automatically precluding any intention I might have had of impacting this doomed political process. Given these crucial considerations and statements, I will be delighted to indulge you with my modest thoughts on this matter:

1) Regarding MARINA: I never thought this lady had any chance, nor would I DREAM of attempting to swerve people's attention from Dilma towards Marina (not because of their sex, but rather because it would be the political equivalent of warning a child away from boiling oil with a red hot brazen piece of iron, for Marina - who in my view is nothing more than a RED DOLL WEARING GREEN CLOTHES - is just as likely to pursue most (if not all) the dangerous steps I have mentioned above. At any chance, I trust she lacks scarcely sufficient support to even make to the second round....

2) SERRA: This gentleman amounts to what I would classify as the littlest of all possible horrible possible solutions for Brazil. Indeed, I have no great opinion of him and highly doubt he might amount to anything noteworthy... Yet, if he were to win the elections, I would at the very least have been able to sleep better at night, aware that my country would not slip into darkness, and blindly place itself at the edge of an exceedingly DEEP populist-socialist dictatorship ABYSS - "a la Hugo Chavez"… At any rate, I must sadly admit that, as much as I might have hoped to make a minor dent into the minds of the leftist bloggers who regularly participate at interesting debates in Brazzil.com, I have never entertained the self-delusional position of presuming that I could EVER exert any influence whatsoever upon the Brazilian electoral process (as already clearly stated above). Likewise, I frankly doubt that it would be possible for the poor, naive, uneducated majority of Brazilian voters (traditionally and historically manipulated by deceptive gimmicks) to be miraculously strike of pot of wisdom and escape the lure of fake illusions, and empty promises…

Consequently, I fear that our beloved Federal Republic of Brazil is heading towards the footnotes of history, as it will be absorbed into the inevitable totalitarian monster to be named – in the not-too-distant-future: URSLA (União das Repúblicas Socialistas Latino-Americanas) where our country would - at best - become one of its most important component (if not outright dismembered into its existing regions). This nightmarish possible scenario is likely to almost certainly represent the final outcome which would follow - in the long run - the nearly inevitable election of above-mentioned "former terrorist & criminal" candidate for the Brazilian Presidency in 2010!
The horror, the horror... (Darkeness at Noon)

(P.S. AT LEAST I am thankful for the single personal solace provided by my “accidental” wisdom of youth which led me to secure a second citizenship, which might enable me to spare some family members from sharing the common horrific fate of their extremely naïve compatriots!)

None the less, I will accept your admonishment(s) and refrain from engaging in further diversions here in this thread.

It is well that our Alemanic and non-Portuguese latin speaking new lady friends have joined in and contributed. I do hope nothing will chase them away or have them deem us unworthy an audience for airing their experiences and perceptions that clearly are not media-hype driven ones.

Perhaps there is still room and time in this thread to explore further the feminine leadership concept. WHEN FRAGMENTS OF MOUNTING PT FILTH ARE PERMITTED TO SURFACE // THE VANISHING GIFT OF LIBERTY...
written by Augustus, July 10, 2010
With the possible exclusion of some Chileans & many Costa Ricans politicians, most of the free world is aware, to a certain extent, of the historical corruption which Latin American officials have displayed over about two centuries of Independence from Spain & Portugal. Yet, I would scarcely consider an exaggeration asserting the dark day when totalitarianism will hold sway over the entire region is quite imminent for anyone willing to see the Real State of Affairs, as it lies concealed underneath piles of FILTH! In fact, I fear that if a valiant soul were to have sufficient courage to formally accuse the pigs ruling the region's malevolent & predominant socialist parties " of MISCONDUCT, THEFT & ABUSE OF POWER, such an INDIVIDUAL would either vanish in mid air or his/her body would appear floating in some remote Brazilian river, bay or lake – IF EVER! To be sure, given the unparalleled levels of blatant cynic behavior whereby most Latin American left-leaning government wield their increased power, along with their ability to manipulate and increase their high officials' personal wealth (through populists patronage and sheer THEFT), the historical corruption levels of the Banana Repubics have been significantly surpassed, whereas the day when LIBERTY will be formally deemed irretrievably lost , unfortunately looms increasingly closer over the darkening Latin American horizons....

In fact, the manipulated Latin American public is permitted to spot scattered fractions of the mounting piles of political filth only during those increasingly rare moments when, occasional rivalry among the dwindling number of senior tyrants-in-waiting, moved by sheer revanchist emotions, release limited amounts of their opponent’s illegal activities to surface. Because such acts often trigger additional “pay-back” recriminations generating some finger pointing theatrics, squirts of supplementary dirt to become visible, as outlined by the very founder of the Brazilian Workers Party, who, by virtue of his recent fall from grace, suggests a significant partial truth to emerge, as follows:
QUOTE

UNQUOTE

Hence, confirming some of the trends earmarked by comments and essays I have posted under this thread, the gradual increase in power of the Brazilian Worker’s Party (PT) is unquestionable! While this highly corrupt socialist party utilizes a wide range of deceptive methods (some more discrete than others) designed to assist its continued, stead pursuit of yet more power as it trots along the pathway towards achieving its hidden agenda, the Brazilian people continues unaware – some even refuse to admit the possibility – of this dangerous party true colors and intentions, which consist of nothing short of holding sway over the entire country in conformity with the good, old-fashion totalitarian manner of its historical predecessors. Under the circumstances, I would like to bring to everyone's attention the following sections of a comment extracted from the attentive "ears" of the Sao Paulo based website "ESTADAO.COM.BR", which will continue attempting to awaken the nation while it still remains uncensored...

João // Conjecturing about Ederson's fate...
written by Augustus, July 10, 2010
If he is going through a divorce which he would rather NOT have completed, wouldn't it be possible that Ederson is rather engaged attempting to persuade his wife not to follow through with her planned separation? Perhaps our friend persuaded his lady to give him another chance, and is spending some "quality time" with her. I would hardly expect him to swerve away from her radar screen, much less to appear immerse in cyberspace talking to us...

Likewise, it could be the very opposite, and he may be too devastated and needs time to grief his losses. I would suggest you consider giving him some space... If he is really about to separate from someone with whom he remains in love... He must not be exactly a "happy camper".

P.S. João, do you recall suggesting that I considered using "Firefox" = a long time ago???
I finally found out about it, and do enjoy it very much in one of my pc's = the other one got google chrome. Belated thanks - LOL

Yes I do recall. I have IE, Firefox and Chrome all in one PC! IE with Portuguese menu and the other two in English. My OS is with the Portuguese menu. The Keyboard is ABNT (which is more convenient to have if you have to write in both the languages). It sounds quite confusing, doesn't it?.smilies/wink.gifsmilies/cheesy.gif

Seems I may have done both Sr. Augustus and Eddie somewhat of a diservice. Other than the "impending divorce" off the wall comment, I think everything else I conveyed in that post was profoundly understood by Eddie and greatly appreciated. Guess I now that I've fired up the makings of our own little tele novela I should violate my promise and diverte-se a bit further. (Are we really this bored?)

When it comes down to not being able to be with the one you love it can get to be a bit gruesome. In the end you just have to manage loving the one you are with. Although I suspect Eddie's bride is a bit young to have undergone any significant reduction in desire and appetite, maybe she will come around to thinking it's okay for him to have his mistress(es) as long as he keeps his mouth shut about it. After all, when it is over it is over and he will always and forever return to her. (and at some point he walks away from his blogging which she knows he does not really love more than her!)
flip side of things
written by Simpleton, July 11, 2010
Conjecturing further, although he should figure out a way to keep it, Eddie's big decision to sell the family farm probably has little to do with his temporary absence. Being a good old farm boy he's probably out making hay (of another type). Both his wife and all of us will certainly forgive him for baleing on us.

Augustus, really, you aren't that new to these environs. Our esteemed DnB has had his say regarding the external criminal support facets of the past regime and it's likely continuance with the heirs apparent.

Unless you come forward with a potential candidate that can keep a decent beat or has a far ranging ken over "those beings" that are truely running the whole show, DnB will not have much to say on this traditional mandatory fracus our countrymen call a democratic election.

I see we did get a few more characters and names tossed out on the table by other contributors. That's great, at least we can further deplore the other actors yet to be heard publicly in this saga. As the only viable counter runner, Ricky's choice of a benevolent dictator, doesn't look like he could possibly get out of the legal prohibitions and on into the public domain in time to make a real go for broke popular election, what truely do we have left for a non-irretreivably lost topic to discuss? Only rehash of what we've all agreed to regarding Dilma?

that who did the classifying was precisely the dictatorship who
wagged "dirty war" on the opposition, tortured and made people disappear. Let us also have in mind that mr. Mandela was once classified as a terrorist too. Now he is honored everywhere.
On the other hand, Serra, the "Big Money" candidate has just been
benefited by a major bargain his party (PSDB) did with the major landowners. Basically they get the right to ignore all lawful protection against deforestation, if they feel like it. River margins,

Yet, I shall endeavor to reflect upon these disagreeable lines...

On the other hand, perhaps I might as well wake up and smell the CHEAP COFFEE BREWING (IT SURELY IS NOT CAPPUCCINO) and once again withdraw from a NEST OF SOCIALIST VIPERS, resigned to the overwhelmingly tragic state of the Brazilian people, who remain completely unaware of the EXTENT of their NAIVETÉ which clouds their judgment compounding their ignorance, and unfortunately precludes them to really SEE THROUGH the FAKE, DECEPTIVE ROSY SCREEN

COMPLETELY DISGUSTED BY THE CLEVER, ABILITY OF MANIPULATIVE AGENTS OF DOOM, whose inherent perversity turns them into insensitive TOOLS OF DECEPTION and chief CONTRIBUTERS for the very creation of such ROSY SCREEN of Moderation, mild socialist and supporter of freedom of expression....

TO THINK THAT ONE DAY I ALSO BELIEVED THAT MANDELA DESEARVED ALL THE HONORS NOW BESTOWED ON HIM... YET, I CAN AT LEAST UNDERSTAND HIS CRIMES AGAINST PERVERSE RACISM... AT ANY RATE, COMPARING ROUSSEFF TO MANDELA appears equivalent to the equation of a cold cruel mass murderer to another who killed in self-defense...

As I close these lines I recalled the wisdom of lines read long ago:
"EVERY COUNTRY GETS THE GOVERNMENT IT DESERVES..."

CONSEQUENTLY, in full concurrence, one might as well observe from afar as hordes of LAME IDIOTS willingly surrender their LIBERTY to their deceptive, potentially monstrous future JAILERS... Sooner or later these simpleton citizens will finally really the actual COST of their collective stupidity vis-a-vis the actual PRICE of their irreplaceable LIBERTY, which is being voluntarily surrendered to their future oppressors

Augustus your 'opinions' have been duly noted and placed on the table among the other intelligent opinions. And no! the logical fouundations of your opinions are not rock solid and are not worn as frontlets on the forehead as being the unchallengable voice of god.

The political affections of a people do not arise in a vacuum. And your 'analysis' is not an analysis it is intellectual name-calling particularly because it avoids context.

Communism has slain its millions and 'Democracy' and 'democratic interests' have slain its tens of millions. (you can reverse the proportions, but what's a million here or there).

Augustus, it's quite clear what you are against...but what are you for? Democracy? And which 'beautiful democratic society' have these nasty old socialists destroyed: Cuba, Russia, Venezuela?

1)The rape of Batista!
2)The egotistical wars and slaughter of Russians caused by Czar Nicholas!
3)The quasi apartheid domination of Venezuela by the 8% whites who disenfranchised the 55% mestico and 25% afro-venezuelan population.

I know what you are against...what are you for and why weren't these good judeo-christian intellectuals who glory in the heritage of western civilations actively resisting these also judeo-christians (who loved opera and art and Wagner) but who created hellish murderous regimes for the people. Who winked at the robbery and murders committed by each other (much as the dickless STJ in Brazil cannot in 10 years condemn more than 4 politicians out of 400 cases).

Silent so-called 'elites'!

Sir, analysis without context is not analysis. Even the five videos you posted on youtube offer no context.

Communism and Laissez Faire Monopoly Capitalism (masquerading as democracy) are brothers, aren't they.

One has slain their millions, the other has slain their tens of millions.

As for "Laissez Faire Monopoly Capitalism", I am not sure if it can be applied to Brasil (or other LatAm countries), unless I misinterpreted the definition of the word "Laissez Faire". I would rather say that it is more of a "Oligarchical,Monopolistic, Plantation Capitalism" with full government intervention. Will Brazilians Elect a Pro-Bolivarian Former Terrorist as President?
written by Fabiano Campos, July 19, 2010
Obviously Lula is greater than PT He has controlled the so called radical
wing of the party, leaving them jobs in the government of minor importance.
Now in the end of his term these radicals emerged to keep their places or seeking to gain power. The question is Dilma Roussef, apart from her well known past as terrorist has no experience and may be can't control these radicals. There is a real danger that if she win the elections, that group, probably supported by Hugo Chavez, take control of the administration and Brazil takes the way of a bolivarian regime.

The Terrorist That Must Be Arrested

Yes! That bitch was elected by absolutely no one Brazilian because she got plenty dangerous weapons called pre-programmed electronic ballots!...
I am writing from Brazil. I am informing you that our future president will be our Brazilian Andreas Baader, or our Brazilian Charles Manson, or our Brazilian Ariel Sharon, or our Brazilian Osama Bin Laden! I mean she is a very dangerous person!
She kidnaped an American ambassador, and an German ambassador in the end of the 60´s; She belonged to a kind of red army faction among with other notorious Brazilian communists, and she used to hold machine guns. She is a former terrorist! This time Catholics and Protestants are united on this fight against her. Not just because she is a pro abortion...
And she was elected through a swindle! She will was elected through pre-programmed electronic ballots where the most votes were voted to her without the most Brazilians voted to her.

I want to get back to be under military regime or to live under monachy.
What the most Brazilians know about the current president:
1) He lost his virginity with a goat;
2) He is analphabet;
3) He lost his finger to earn some money;
4) He distribued communist flyers among Fernando Henrique Cardozo;
5) He already was arrested for being a communist;
6) He was elected and re-elected through a swindle by pre-programmed electronic ballots;
7) His Government did about 20 scandels and there was no Impeachment.

And many more scum...

What many Brazilians know about the next president:
1) She was a prostitute;
2) She was a terrorist;
3) She already killed innocent people;
4) She once kidnaped an American ambassador and a German ambassador in the end of the 60´s;
5) She was the minister guilt for a big recent scandal;
6) She will be elected through pre programmed electronic ballots.
7) She is a far left communist.
smilies/cool.gif She is an atheist.
9) She is pro-abortion.
10) She is friends with the FARC (or RAFC).
11) She hates the United States of America.

By the way, there is an episode of The Simpsons that they satire pre programmed electronic ballots where Homer wants to vote to Obama, but the machine marks votes to McCain.

Power, Corruption & Lies is not just a New Order album name! It is actually the current Brazilians situation.

All the best,

Hundreds of years of oppression
written by Jlevi, October 14, 2010
In Latin America, specialists and polling organisations have, for some time, observed that the extension of formal democracy was accompanied by an increasing disillusionment about democracy and a lack of faith in democratic institutions. A persuasive explanation for these disturbing tendencies was given by the Argentinian political scientist Atilio Boron, who pointed out that the new wave of democratisation in Latin America coincided with neoliberal economic "reforms", which undermine effective democracy. The phenomenon extends worldwide, although it appears that the tendency may have reversed in recent years, with departures from neoliberal orthodoxy.

The annual polls on Latin American opinion by the Chilean polling agency Latinobarómetro, and their reception in the west, are interesting in this respect. Few elements of the reigning western orthodoxy are upheld with more fervour than the view that Chávez is a tyrant dedicated to the destruction of democracy. The polls are therefore a serious annoyance that have to be overcome by the usual device: suppression.

The November 2007 poll had the same irritating results as in the preceding few years: Venezuela ranked second behind Uruguay in satisfaction with democracy and third in satisfaction with leaders. It ranked first in the assessment of the current and future economic situation, equality and justice, and education standards. True, it ranked only 11th in favouring a market economy but, even with this flaw, overall it ranked highest in Latin America on matters of democracy, justice and optimism, far above the US favourites Colombia, Peru, Mexico and Chile.

The Latin America analyst Mark Turner has written of an "almost total English-speaking blackout about the results of this important snapshot of [Latin American] views and opinions". He also found the usual exception: there were reports of the finding that Chávez is about as unpopular as Bush in Latin America, a fact that will come as little surprise to those who are familiar with the bitterly hostile coverage to which the Venezuelan president is subjected in the media, not least (and this is an odd feature of this putative dictatorship) in his country.

In the US, faith in institutions has been declining steadily. It is interesting to compare presidential elections in the richest country in the world and the poorest country in South America, Bolivia. In the 2004 US presidential election, voters had a choice between two men born to wealth and privilege, who attended the same elite university, joined the same secret society where privileged young men are trained to take their place in the ruling class, and were able to run in the election because they were supported by pretty much the same conglomerations of private power. Their announced programmes were similar, consistent with the needs of their primary constituency: wealth and privilege.

By contrast, in the December 2005 election in Bolivia, voters were familiar with the issues: control of resources, cultural rights for the indigenous majority, problems of justice in a complex multi-ethnic society and many others. They eventually chose Evo Morales, someone from their own ranks, and not a representative of narrow sectors of privilege. There was real participation, extending over years of intense struggle and organisation.

Election day was not just a brief interlude for pushing a lever and then retreating to passivity and private concerns, but one phase in ongoing participation in the workings of the society. The comparison, and it is not the only one, raises some questions about where democracy promotion is most needed.

Latin America has real choices, for the first time in its history. The usual modalities of imperial control - violence and economic strangulation - are much more limited than before. There are lively and vibrant popular organisations providing the essential basis for meaningful democracy. Latin American and other former colonies have enormous internal problems and there are sure to be many setbacks, but there are promising developments as well. It is in these parts of the world that today's democratic wave finds its basis and its home. That is why the World Social Forum has met in Porto Alegre, Mumbai, Caracas, Nairobi, not in northern cities, though by now the global forum has spawned many regional and local offshoots, doing valuable work geared to problems of significance in their own regions.

The former colonies, in Latin America in particular, have a better chance than ever before to overcome centuries of subjugation, violence and foreign intervention, which they have so far survived as dependencies with islands of luxury in a sea of misery. These are exciting prospects for Latin America, and if the hopes can be realised, even partially, the results cannot fail to have a large-scale global impact as well.

ESTEEMED WISEMAN (OR SHOULD I JUST SAY "JOAO"?)

While I have not written this editorial in July to win the Pulitzer Prize or any other literary awards, I am scarcely surprised that you might have considered it long and/or boring, neither it staggers me that so many fake ids have been utilized to convey views discrediting and/or dismissing the important message I intended to convey due to the fact – already postulated in a previous entry above – that I am certain that every blog and or organization in Brazil or about Brazilian issues contains dormant PT agents in order to execute any “disguised work” on their behalf in order to promote or defend their views, policies and goals.

The crux of the matter being that my well intended article contains so many factual accounts that unmasks Dilma Rousseff, Lula, their vile political party, the “Bolivarian Sympathizers, and any additional political supporters thereby surprising the agents of Latin America’s totalitarian Left, who would naturally spare no effort to discredit any significant effort to expose their hidden agenda, their true intentions and macabre ultimate goals; whereby a “Civilian Socialist Dictatorship” would be legitimately established in Brazil to join forces with Venezuela, Cuba and their minor puppets in Bolivia, Ecuador & Nicaragua in order to accomplished their dangerous dream: the foundation of the USRLA (Union of Socialist Republics of Latin America).

Bulls**t over bulls**t. What else can I say of that travesti of article ? The biggest risk the democracy have to face is the corrupt elite which ruled Brazil for 500 years. Lula never attacked the press, even when the "Veja" magazine and "Globo" television attacked him relentless. The same for Dilma. Calling Dilma a "terrorist" or "murder" is just forget that in her youth she was figthing a brutal right wing militar regime. Read about "AI-5", when the "military-president" (an oximoro) banned almost all civil rights, including the constitution.
