Prometheus Press is a new, small Brazilian publishing company with no resources for advertising. All promotions for the book have to be done by me, the author, and I make this very clear. I do not use a pseudonym as many authors do to promote their books. I have donated all my royalties to the Brazil Foundation to help women and children in Brazil. Only three thousand copies of "Follow Your Dreams" were published. Half of them have been sold worldwide. Please visit the website http://www.followyourdreams for more information and free activities for the kids. - Elisabeth Waugaman

\"Americans\" is what we call estadounidenses, like it or not.
While other peoples in the Americas were still squirming under the thumbs of the French, Spanish and Portuguese, 13 former British Colonies came together as the \"United States of America\" and by so doing got to the name first, and so people are fully justified in using it for natives and citizens of the USA. If you don\'t like it, you are probably a small-minded bigot.
In Portuguese, we say Americano for a person of the USA, so at least we have the common sense not to quibble about something already established both by usage and by history.
The word \"Brazilian\" works just fine for us, thank-you very much.

Hegemonic countries and the manufacturin

History´s always told by the winners, or, in this case, by the hegemonic superpower. When the URSS still existed you grabbed one of those excellent MIR-edited math books and discovered that, say, Euler´s theorem in the URSS was called \"Ivanov´s theorem\" (obviously I´ve made this one up since I don´t remember any real example anymore).
So now we have a hegemonic superpower that invented just EVERYTHING. That´s not a new development, that´s just human. And it´s also human not to accept data that defies in any way your deep-rooted beliefs. You´re a boy and daddy tells you the Wright Brothers invented the aeroplane - how could he be wrong? You even visited the Wright Flyer at the museum, you SAW IT!
Ans now some dumb monkey-minded banana republic shit head brazilian cucaracha claims that an absolute nobody like this Dumont guy actually INVENTED the plane! How pretentious these motherfucker assholes can get, don´t ya think?

Well fellas here are the bad news: by any measureable standard Dumont beats the Wright Brothers. He invented the aeroplane, at least if the dispute is restricted to him and the Wrights (God knows what may have happened in other countries and also been suffocated by \"official\" history).

And here are the good ones: you don´t have to worry since there´s not a chance of changing the \"official history\" in the foreseeable future.

PS: when the URSS was still alive and kickin´, the \"father of aviation\" there was Aleksandr Fyodorovich Mozhaiski. And I guess they had the means to make half the world firmly believe it. - Guest

WHAT IT MEANS IS...... HOW COULD BRAZIL REJECT ALBERTO THEN!!!!!!!!! SUDDENLY REMEMBER HIM?

ALBERTO WAS OBVIOUSLY A HIGHLY INTELLIGENT, PERSONABLE AND ELEGANT YOUNG MAN.

WAS HE WRONG SHADE OF COLOR OR
SOMETHING?

I WOULD FEEL REAL PROUD IF SOMEONE LIKE ALBERTO CAME FROM MY COUNTRY BUT AFTER ALL WE ARE TALKING ABOUT BRAZIL!!!!!!

I DID READ SOMEWHERE THAT THERE ARE OVER 130 DIFFERENT SHADES OF SKIN COLORS IN BRAZIL. I GUESS THE ANSWER MAY BE FOUND IN THIS SPECTRUM? - Guest

\"You guys from the USA love to say \"us, the Americans...\", but what you guys don\'t realize is that all people living in the american CONTINENT are americans and you\'re in the best of the hypothesis, only NORTH americans. \"

Not this crap again! Why do Brasilians get so upset about this nonsense? \"American\" is what the residents of the U.S. and the rest of the English-speaking world call the residents of the United States of America. I\'m not an American, and I couldn\'t care less about this nomenclature. Canadians live next door to the U.S. in NORTH AMERICA, and they don\'t get the least bit upset.

And despite hearing this silly argument many times here in Brasil, I have yet to hear one Brasilian call himself (or herself) an American--except when trying to make this silly argument.

Get over it! Or stop calling the language spoken by Brasilians \"Portuguese.\" Do you expect the Portuguese to be upset because you continue to say you speak \"Portuguese\" instead of \"Brasilian?\" I realize this is a fatuous point, but it makes about as much sense as the original poster\'s upsetedness with \"American\"

Alberto Santos Dumont was a genius and should have been respected and promoted long ago. This is a good article but it does not go into his background or where he originates from so we can get an insight into what it was like at that time.It does not even go into the reasons as to why Alberto went to live in Paris or if this was because he was not appreciated in Brazil?

I am pleased that at long last something positve has come out of his achievements but surely if anyone had a heart why did his living family not reap some rewards for such acts of kindness to humanity because of Alberto as it is clear to see that Alberto believed in humanity, not just about money.

If he contributed so much to the aviation field, and is now remembered in Brazil, could the government not make a statue of Alberto in memory of his many achievements so that everyone in Brazil can feel proud that a man from Brazil is recognized worldwide?

Anyway, i am glad the author is promoting her work towards the children and is donating 50% to charity and the rest to the poor children of Brazil, but why has nothing gone to his family and why were they not interviewed or consulted on this matter as this has not been mentioned in this artice?

All the same the author is right - we must always remember the Children if you want to create a better future.

Well, now about Santos Dumont. I agree with the writer of an earlier post when he says that north americans just take all they can get for themselves (Irak can tell us a lot about that), it\'s just so true. So it doesn\'t matter if Jesus Christ came back and tell people that the Wright Brothers history isn\'t like people say, you guys would prefer just stick with your good loking version of it. After all, you\'re the world owner anyways...

Who cares anyway, Santos Dumont is the real aviation father :D - Guest

I find it odd that there is no mention in the article or subsequent discussion about the excellent book on Santos-Dumont written a few years ago by Paul Hoffman: \"Wings of Madness : Alberto Santos-Dumont and the Invention of Flight\" Not only is it an exhaustive biography, it is a well-written and fascinating read. Anything you want to know about Santos-Dumont can be found here.

It is also available in Portuguese as \"Asas da Loucura\" and can easily purchased in Brasil. Or it can be ordered online from any of the major Brasilian booksellers.

Because the white people of Brazil are all f-cking retards who have to wait on \"real\" white people from America and Europe to create sh-t for the country. Brazil is a toilet and will always be a toilet. An ignorant backwater that will always have to s-ck the c-ck of Good Old Uncle Sam!

Brazil is supposed to be a predominantly \"white\" country if that is what you call the mutant retards walking around the country like the dumb sh-ts they are. Brazil is a 5th world sh-thole. Always has been, always will be.

Hero. Hummm. Dumont is a hero but so was Airton Sena.
Differences? Dumont was a scientist so to speak. Sena was a piece of crap living on borrowed time.

The first is a kind of hero although I can’t get why hero but I can live with that.
Sena: Another “hero”. One dies in a bed the other with a piece of iron through his head with his ass full of money.

The REAL HERO IS the poor, the miserable, the kid dying in his mother’s lap, starvation
These are the REAL ones. They fight day in day out the ever-present misery, food, housing, politicians, PRESIDENTS, (who was a miserable before someone pushed the guy up the ladder.).
Yep. Year of the tourism. I wonder when will US$ 17 Billions be used to help them miserable? The answer?

We ALL know, right?

So we have the following in the podium:

First place- Les miserables (French shit)
  Second place- Dumont guy
Last but not third place - Sena The Iron Man.

Fair enough?

How sad is a country that has Sena as a hero, just for lack of real heroes in the last 500 years or so. (Not counting the miserable).
That guy who was a dentist I guess. That could be a hero? Well discussion is open on this one.
