The Haitians invited the Americans, so how sad and silly for Brazilian politicians and Army officials to exploit it as if the US was simply invading and dominating the situation. This is not a soccer game or sports competition between the US and Brazil: the goal is to help as many people as possible in Haiti by rescuing, feeding, giving medical attention, etc. It's not a time for military posturing. Yes, I agree with the author: some Brazilians seem desperate to make a name for Brazil as a world power, but such stunts only detract from the image of Brazil. Bill Clinton, the special envoy to Brazil, acknowledged it was a joint venture, and he came out and praised the UN troops for having prior knowledge of the terrain. The US government has shown itself in Haiti in one of its finer moments: capable and willing to generously help out another nation in peril. Yet, this crisis also shows the deep seated anti-Americanism in Brazil. Sadly, many Brazilians have no capacity or interest in seeing any good in the US. I haven't even seen the official tally of money donated by ordinary Americans to the aid organizations, but I suspect that the Brazilian government didn't even match private donations, yet still so common to this blog is the unending hatred and misrepresentations of Americans. It all sounds like "sour grapes" and bitterness of a people who only wish to be the next superpower. I personally don't care much about whether the US loses its super power status in the future, nor whether Brazil, China or any other nation gains it. I would be more impressed if our nations learned to be more generous, moral, fair, kind, cooperative, etc. This bickering about who is running the show in Haiti is very sad.
Good article. I enjoy when a Brazilian writes something here that attempts a critical perspective of Brazil. Clever description, very amusing and funny. Courageous perspective, unlike the silly jingoistic opinions and amateurish journalism often seen on this blog that basically looks like a 24-hour non-stop infomercial about how all things in Brazil are extraordinary. - sad story
Besides this bunch of bla bla bla that will not help this unfortunate people of Haiti
I wonder what you think is just "blah,,blah"..

Yes , we all should help. I am most I associate with have given money. That is all I can do.
But young lady, understanding the dynamics behind things and certain events help you understand where we are in the 'stream of time'. It isn't "blah blah" at the end of the day. In fact , they are signs to give one a sense of urgency on a spiritual level. If this goes over your head , the info is not for you. But EVERYTHING happens WITH a reason. Global society is apparently GOING SOMEWHERE.. It's unfortunate that many don't want to admit where. And choose to DISTRACT themselves from REAILITY

Now is not the time to do that. A lot of "blah blah" may just be a wake up call.
Recognize what you are ACTUALLY seeing. It's usually NEVER how it appears on the surface in the political realm.;) - dnbaiacu

Besides this bunch of bla bla bla that will not help this unfortunate people of Haiti, did you do some thing to help them? Seriously, right now we need to be united. This is the time to the whole world come together and show that we are brother and sisters and capable to hand a help for those who are in need. I bet you that everyone of those men and women helping in the Haiti right now are working together to save as many lives as they can without the worry of if the help come from Brazil, US or from hell....criticism will not bring any relief for the people from Haiti.

God Bless the world

Is not going to stay front and center for long. With a new style of foriegn policy in the works , it's a bet that the United Nations quickly take the helm and "experiment" at this situation.
This is why , albeit the U.S can do much more with some sort of military effort , as many experts are admitting ,,,, THEY ARE NOT.
This event will be an oppurtunity for the United Nations to grandstand. An oppurtunity to show its worth.
13 And it performs great signs, so that it should even make fire come down out of heaven to the earth in the sight of mankind. Revelation 13:13

And I saw one of its heads as though slaughtered to death, but its death-stroke got healed, and all the earth followed the wild beast with admiration. 4 And they worshiped the dragon because it gave the authority to the wild beast, and they worshiped the wild beast with the words: “Who is like the wild beast, and who can do battle with it?” 5 And a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies was given it, and authority to act forty-two months was given it
Revelation 13:3-5

It's that time now.......

More grandstanding to come.....
The U.S has its own issues to deal with, because its time as the 7th king along with Great Britain is winding down.

And the wild beast that was but is not, it is also itself an eighth [king], but springs from the seven, and it goes off into destruction.
Revelation 17:11 - dnbaiacu

ACCORDING TO WIKIPEDIA

Between 1999 and 2004, no new foreign aid to Haiti was sent because political instability made it unlikely that aid would be distributed properly. According to a World Bank report published in 2004, Haiti requires more than US$1.3 billion in aid for 2005 and 2006. In July 2004, a donors’ conference awarded Haïti more than US$1 billion in pledged aid for 2005 and 2006. The United States pledged US$230 million in aid through fiscal year 2006. - Ricky March

the international cries for the fair and equitable distribution of control of the relief efforts in Haiti! What they all seem to be clamoring about is the U.S. has taken control of the relief efforts, including the airport.

So . . . . what they want, is for t he U.S. to sign a blank check, and get the hell out of the way so they can create all the chaos they want, including withdrawing our security forces, and allow the looters, rioters, and general thugs to control the situation, seeing as how they are Haitians, and have more right to be in control of the situation.

And of course let's not forget we don't really need anyone in control of air traffic. The pilots of course can sort that out amongst themselves who gets to land when and where, right?

No Problem - Ricky March
Are you kidding? Who is thinking about sex at this time at this time of crisis. Or PAYING for it , which you won't get away with NOT doing in a place like Haiti. Give us a break!!!
Brazil , or whereever you are at , i'm sure has their share of AIDS. And if not , because of supposed education,, what makes you think someone would "slip up" and be unsafe in Haiti".???

You got issues.Your fantasies are getting the best of you.

Comical at best. Borderline insulting at the worst.
Whoever thinks the only way to get AIDS, Hepatitus, or any of a number of other viral pathogens is from sex is a totally ignorant moron. All emergency responders in the U.S. are trained to react to any medical emergency as if the victim has a blood born pathogen. Even the tiniest scratch coming in contact with infected blood can transmit these pathogens. I hope whoever wrote this response will do a little research on the subject, because it is much easier to contract such diseases than many people think. helping someone bandage a small cut can do it. Sharing a razor is good enough. There have even been many cases of people sharing rolled up bills to snort cocaine and contracting Hep and HIV.

Smarten up guy, or you're going to end up with a disease, and it won't be from having sex with a Haitian. - Ricky March

The Brazilian Military Forces, uses of course, people who are trained to maintain law and order. Including men and women who are qualified to take care of injured. Along with tons of food and sanitary products
weekly delivered, from the Brazilian mainland. No matter what you really do! There are always people, leaned back, finding other peoples hard efforts, a bit strange, or very weird!?
I guess it´s not what you say, that counts.
It´s about action........ - Rubin Sarmell

Thanks for the info and I digress. I will research that more. But obviously had you included that in your entry I would not have assumed you were talking about sexual contact as I am SURE most others did also. Without you clearing things up your post sounded crazy, so I apologize for reacting to what I read.

I have noticed the handling without gloves. Let's just hope people are smart enough not to have their open wound come in contact with and open wound of a corpse. :o Seriously.

Anyway in the past there was this media frenzy about Haitian boat people coming the the U.S . A main concern was the spread of AIDS sexually. When you brought that up, that was all that came to mind.;) - dnbaiacu

This journalist must be kidding me... Brazil has been helpping Haiti for at least 5 years by now, especially with its leadership in MINUSTAH. Im not a big fan of the brazilian army, but i've been following their work at Haiti and I must congratulate them. Most of the Haitians also trust in them. Brazil has a long term commitiment with Haiti and of course the milionare American help is more than welcomed.
This journalist obiviously heard about Haiti only now with this disaster, otherwise wouldn't be so narrow minded. - Lucas Moraes
