Well, I could agree with you that the Bruno BArreto film is, as you put, "underwhelming", but the arrangements by Eumir Deodato for the soundtrack are fine. I just can't imagine Tom Jobim having the outburst that you made up, had he had the opportunity of hearing Deodato's masterly rendition of his songs.

Yes, I totally agree, that film was constructed around that sound track, which is great and makes the movie sound very palatable indeed. I am sure Jobim would feel great if he was part of that audience.
