I have a credit with Varig and am thinking of flying to Floripa for a few weeks in April, but I dont know much about it. Ive read there are a good amount of germans/italians. If I go, what should I see there? what is the nightlife like? Any info would help, thanks.

Live in Floripa is a dream for many brazilians, its a calm city, with beautifull beaches, not dangerous, pretty girls and people from everywhere of Brazil visiting the city in the summer. You will find many paulistas, gaśchos and argentineans there. The people is really cool, I used to live near Floripa, go there if you can.

Obrigado Loco, my first choice used to be Rj, but Ive been getting into the nordeste lately. I may go to Olinda and the surrounding areas, but a ticket there is more expensive than one to Rj. Floripa is my next choice. Where do the younger crowds gather? and what can you suggest for a 21yr old?

Just as an information Floripa instead of Florida. Floripa is the nickname of Florianopolis city in the Santa Catarina state in Brazil.

Adam, just as Fernandobn said above, FloriPa (and not FloriDa) as Brent wrongly suggest) is what people affectionately call the city of Florianopolis. I guess that somebody who's 21 would love to go the breathtaking beaches all along the coastline of the island of Santa Catarina, which is where Floripa is. My suggestion is that you go to the beaches such as Mole, Lagoinha and Pantano do Sul. Avoid Jurere because of the tourists. Too many of them. Too many Argentinians. Nothing against Argentinians. It's just that they crowd in the beach and it seems as if it weren't in Brazil. And I guess you would want to enjoy Brazil, wouldn't you? Have a nice stay in Brazil.
