So, I will put here the two last postings from the 'indians' topic, because they didn't really belong there. And at the suggestion of Ze, and out of my own curiosity I decided to open a new topic for this...

This is not really the right place for my next comment, but I didn't want to open a whole new topic for it...
I just wanted to share this link to a news website.. Not much any connection to Brasil really, except for that PAULO COELHO ROCKS MY WORLD!!!

http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/pages/ShArt.jhtml?itemNo=260737&contrassID=2&subContrassID=4&sbSubContrassID=0&listSrc=Y

(and please, don't be insulted by that...just in case anyone really hates the article)
peace. seriously.

You could create 2 topics with this, one for Paulo Coelho ( I agree with his opinion, but I hate his books, and cannot stand his poor writing skills in portuguese), the other for us to beat on each other on the subject of the war.

... since the racism topic is starting to slow down, I suggest you open the next arena.

------

So now it's everyone else's turn. Just say whatever you want, whatever comes to your mind... about Paulo Coelho, his ideas, his writings, perhaps some on his institute and social work...or whatever else you want (since I can't help sharing some highly irrelevant observations of mine with others, I won't mind if everyone else does the same). And we'll just see where this will take us. Ok?

i thought that i would respond on this page this time. sorry i replied to this thread on the other one, but since you were there it happened.
i see what you mean now about getting rid of blair, but to me that is still too expensive. if i were the author i would mention that a good way of reconizing blair would be to lock him in room with some intoxicated lesbian soccer players from different countries.
paulo, in my opinion is a good writer from what i have read. it appears that he can be serious, angry, contained and amusing at the same time. i must agree on how he stressed of how people generalizes others. i see it all the time around me and among all peers.
krista, back to the indians. when i move to rio, i will let you know. i can have closer direct access to raising hell about the abuse/oppression of indians and distruction of amazonas, but in the mean time, lets get addresses of presidente lula, the congress and the governor of amazonas and write to them in a way that may make them give serious consideration to respect the indians and the land. other than god (allah or whatever one wants to name in reference), the angels or aliens, the brazilian government is the one and only that can make a change for the time being.
we can try to persuade and manipulate change as much as we can. shucks, we may be able to force them by threatening to send more people like brent, vargas and buckley down there to tourist areas .

I wasn't going to respond to this, but seeing as how GENT has said he so enjoys reading my opinions...

Most educated Brazilians feel about Paulo Coelho the way most educated Americans feel about Sidney Shelton. I've read some of PC's stuff and have found the descriptive "fast food spiritual wisdom", coined by Brazilian writer Fausto Wolf, to be accurate.

As for Indians... Well, se my post on the Indians thread.

You really made a downsizing of the spirited words needed to describe his works.

... by the way, any brazilian writer you favor?

oh please - this is my little corner of happiness. The whole forum is full of depressing poverty and inequality and genocide and racism topics. I made this one in order to have a place where everyone could just throw in a joke or some random thing they found that doesn't really relate to any other topic... please let's not start insulting each other here.
ok?

on Paulo Coelho... anyone else wanna tell me what you think of him? i've read a few articles by him and the beginning of Alchemist, but I never finished a whole book..so, I'm not really an expert or anything; but definitely quite curious about a writer who can put together such brilliant dry sarcasm as the article I posted. (actually he reminds me of Chico Burque a bit. PC is more open with his statements, but I recognize this same kind of bitter dry sarcasm that bites quite well)

Krista,

Have you read "Macunaima" by Mário de Andrade? I think you'd like it a lot and there are plenty of translated versions ouit there.

no, i haven't; but what i've heard of it this far...sounds like a wild and fun book that has some substance in it. so, once i get thru the million books i currently have on my i-want-to-read-this list, i'll actually try to get to that one too.
thanks. good advice always happily accepted.
