Besides religiosity, two things distinguish man from the other animals: walking on two legs and educating his children. Millennia ago he created the school. Today, however, education needs three legs: the school; the family; and the media.

It all must have started with the first college of Theology. In establishing a university institution where faith themes are studied and there’s no room for doubt, the doors are open to all kinds of schemes and scams. Surfacing in Brazil, like mushrooms after the rain, confessional schools.

During the apartheid regime in South Africa, black people were segregated. There were separate schools and separate neighborhoods; black and white people could not share the same sidewalk or frequent the same beach. Inter-racial marriage was prohibited.

Brazilians love to party. Carnaval may have officially ended at dawn on Ash Wednesday last week, but you can be sure that many Brazilians are only now snuffing out their candles, scorched at both ends.

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva claims that his administration governs for all, especially the less privileged. The devil is that, as in the days of former President Fernando Henrique, speculators, bankers, multinationals, large land owners, and those who live off investments are privileged.
