The last days of the military regime (1964-1985) coincided with an incredible rise of politicisation in the Brazilian judiciary. Since the 1980s, many Brazilian judges decided to coalesce themselves around the idea of 'alternative use of law'.

Portuguese language and slam me as an elitist. Given my considerations regarding
the Supreme Ignoramus (reference to President Lula), is the reader to believe I

In her January 18 confirmation hearing before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice asserted that the Western Hemisphere is “extremely critical” to the United States. “With our close neighbors in Latin America we are working to realize the vision of a fully democratic hemisphere bound by common values and free trade.”

In the 1970s and 1980s few listened to those asserting that, due to their investments in education, countries like Ireland, South Korea and Spain would leave Brazil behind. In Brazil, successive governments held on to the old belief that the door to modernity was the factory and industrialization and not the school and education.

From the feedback I have received over the last four years, the average Brazzil correspondent appears to be a semi-literate (in English and/or Portuguese) adolescent with a penchant for four-letter words or a poorly educated pedant who cannot grasp the big picture and is a good example of a little knowledge being a dangerous thing.
