João Pessoa is a city of about 600,000 people in the Northeast Brazilian state of Paraíba. It has the unique feature of being located on the easternmost tip of the South American continent at S07'.06.30 and W34.50.30. This places it closer to Africa than to Peru on Brazil's western border.

Jimbo,
Thanks for the interesting article. As an American who has spent much time in Brasil, I definately put Joao Pessoa on my list of places to go.
Sounds like it could offer some good real estate investment opportunities as well.
Thanks again,
James in Philly

Jim Smith: this is a good article and if I ever wanted to travel to Brazil, this area would be most appealling to me, overall.
Your full description of Joao Pessoa made it sound like a nice down to earth place, magical, charming and unpretentious!!!
This could be a model example of how Brazil could be, if it is developed in the right way!!!
The fact that you have said Joao Pessoa has never suffered from any natural disasters... tells me that Joao pessoa is blessed!!!
Thank you for this article Sir, you are beginning to restore my faith in Brazil!!

It's nice to see an article on this web site that doesn't always harp on the negative aspects of Brasil. This is a much more enjoyable read than John Fitzgerald's recent article on the same city. Thanks.

Your article was completely accurate, except the "almost total absence of mosuitos"! If u live by the beach in a high apt u wont ever see a mosquito, but try livin a bit in more away from the beach, and u will get bit up! Joao Pessoa is where i did an exchange program from, (im from Arizona) and i have been around many parts in BRazil as well, Joao Pessoa has its own specialness thats for sure, but it was sad to see there were less nightclubs when i was there last (3/21/06) I plan on going back to live permanently hopefully in a year or so, fico com muito saudades do meu Brasil!

Hey Jim,
My name is Gary Miller and I am coming to Joao Pessoa on Feb 7th for 5 weeks. I am coming to study Portuguese and I have been having a hard time trying to find a class or a tutor. I was originally going to Maceio where there are numerous schools but met a girl from Joao Pessoa and after reading about it decided that it is my kind of town.
I am a professional Firefighter and have a small real estate business here in Annapolis, Maryland (just learning to sail). I was hoping you could point me in the right direction in finding a class and a good place to stay while I am there. I enjoyed your article and can't wait to see it for myself. I have traveled all over Brasil and look forward to exploring a new place and spending time with the people. I would also like to work and volunteer while i am there in order to practice my Portuguese.
Tchau,
Gary

Every one knows that life is not very cheap, nevertheless we require money for different stuff and not every person gets enough cash. Thus to get quick home loans or just small business loan will be good solution.
I am brazilian, from Joao Pessoa. I am living in South Africa.
