Iara IavelbergOn March 31, 1964, a military uprising overthrew the legal government of Brazil and began to curtail citizen rights and liberties as they cracked down on leftists. The President, João Goulart, and many other politicians and prominent Brazilians, fled the country. Others would be forced into exile by the military government.

were are the activists from brazil?
written by Guest, December 25, 2004
Were are the brazilian activists from the past that fought for their nation? Were are they now that what threatens our sovereignity is not our own dictatorship, but the imperialism of the current american administration?
Were are the brazilians that could uprise and make their voices heard on the eve of an illegitimate and corrupt president's inauguration, that will take place in Januray 20th,2005?

I, as a brazilian, am inspired by those leftists martyrs of the past to act in our present, learn with the history of our country to make a difference in todays disguised north american dictatorship.

Get up! Rise up! Defend demmocracy!

Here you have it folks, if you want a peak at what Mario Vargas llosa et.al described in their book "The perfect guide to the Latin American Idiot" as your classic idiot- Viola.

As a Non-American Gringo living in Brasil for over 8 years, I´m never surprised to see such idiocy. While the country in which we live deals with violence, poverty, illiteracy, hunger, forest destruction, corruption, and myriad other ills, you´ll find idiots such as the above poster pointing their fingers blindly to the north for blame. They refuse to accept that their problems can be solved here. Or they refuse to acknowledge their problems.

Point of FACT folks, Brasil´s massive social hurtles and problems are all HOME GROWN.

If you want activists here in Brasil, aim them in the right direction at least.

Those Martyrs from the past you praise so much were little more than Soviet funded Communists (you do know there were two international forces at work) - I actually wish, on occasions, that the Soviet propaganda machine would have prevailed instead of the US. and Brasil veered hard left instead orf hard right. You wouldn´t being hearing this type of stupidity anymore - actually, you wouldn´t be hearing ANYTHING from Brasil anymore.
