Community radios have existed in Brazil since the 1980s, long before
they became regulated in 1998. More recently they have been a staple on the
pages and space of the great media. We are reminded by their alleged
interference on our chaotic air traffic or when the Federal Police and Anatel
(National Telecom Agency) execute their constant orders to apprehend broadcast

Brazil is huge. From northern rainforests to southern winters, we are a
nation of 188,917,618 people. In spite of this territorial vastness and
geographic differences, we all speak the same language and recognize each other
as citizens of one country. Anthropologist Darcy Ribeiro always said this was an
achievement. |

The implementation of one of the most controversial mega-projects of the Lula government is imminent: the São Francisco river transposition, known as the Transposição.
