How 108 Palestinian Refugees Are Coping with a New Life Start in Brazil PDF Print E-mail
2007 - November 2007

Arab refugees learn Portuguese - Sérgio Tomisaki/Agência Meios During the last four and a half years, it was as if life had stopped. Those who studied quit. Those who sang became silent. Those who worked discovered idleness. The 108 Palestinians that arrived in Brazil in different groups, since September, lived these last years in Ruweished, a Jordanian refugee camp in the middle of the desert.

More like a book than an article!

Helping people is always good. Perhaps it would have been more cost-effective to help poor Brazilians.

It's a tragedy that of all the great 20th Century refugee crises (Greece-Turkey, India-Pakistan, Israel-Arab world, etc), that the Arab governments continue to use their refugees as a political pawn sixty years later. The Israel-Palestine dispute would still be on the international agenda if people from Palestine were given citizenship rights in the countries in which they were born, as is a basic right almost anywhere else in the world.
Beautiful Article

This is beautiful. This is humanity in action, this is compassion in action, this is how we should try to be. Inspiring.
It is moments like this that I am proud to be a resident of Brasil, and look upon my former country of residence and nationality and say: "Hey, take a look here, not too much government involvement, but look at the NGO's, and see what they are doing, and perhaps more importantly, look at what the Brasilians are doing to help people become part of Brasil".
Not easy, but in reality, it should not be too easy. But the direction and guidance is superb.
Arabs don't take care of Arabs

Arabs treat their fellow Arabs like crap and keep them suppressed, then point the blame at whoever fits their political agenda. If not for the oil, they'd still all be living 7th century lifestyles. A lot of them unfortunately still are.

i have travelled a lot in arab countries and was alwasy exceptionally well treated though they probably have little reason to.

do arabs treat each other badly? there are some conservative social structures for sure that strangely remind me of the conservative politicians in western countries.

it seems the conservatives in saudi have more in common with the neocons than either would want to admit

congratulations to Brazil and the welcome foreigners receive here.

I have not traveled so much as you in Arab countries, but you are right. I have traveled in the Indian sub continent and was well treated too. Still have some good friends both in India and Pakistan.

congratulations to Brazil and the welcome foreigners receive here.

Lots of us don't mind receiving those 108 Palestine refugees and I think that Itamaraty did a great job and congrats to our capable diplomats.

As for the comment of James from Philly:

Brasil ought to spend their money on helping the poor in Brasil as opposed to Sand n****rs.

By making this statement, he demonstrated what sort of racist he is, though he was soo smart in segmenting the non whites as "Plain n****rs" and "Sand n****rs".Does he intend sub segmenting the race further?

James,
Are "Sand n****rs" equivalent to Ragheads, Camel Jockeys and/or Diaper heads? Please clarify.

Inorder to shoot someone you need to dehumanize them. Kraut, Jap, Slant, Gook and now 'sand n****r' are the soldier's way of psychologically dealing with the act of killing. Depersonalization. It is rare that the soldier will take the slang out of the field and into the society at large. Though the terms Jap and Kraut were widely used for some ten years after WWII they are no longer used in society in general and someone that does is regarded as low class and boorish. It is usually, unfortunately the province of the South that finds great relish in adopting these particular degredations. Denegrative words are ways of dissipating negetive energy. To have your platoon decapitated at Iwo Jima or Normandy does not engender linguistic sensibilities. 'Sand n****r' is the current characterized term for the 'enemy de jour'.
It is the nature of all wars to characiture, vulgarize the enemy. Ironically it is nothing personal. The enemy is never personal it is always the general. It is this that facilitates the soldier's ability to murder. I
dont know what the term the Japenese or the Germans or Al Qaida or the Iraqi insurgency use to describe the enemy, but I assure you it is equally lingustically reprehensible.

Yowser,

Yes, a Sand n****r is indeed equivilant to a raghead or camel jockey. A diaperhead does infact have dual connotations. It can pertain to pakistanis as well as indians. I prefer the term sand n****r or the newly coined term Bomb Strappin Sand n****r or even better, Gutter Religion Muslim Sand n****r..

I hope this clears up any questions.

Thanks,

Thank you so much for your patient and scholarly explanation for your using such modern and powerful expressions to describe the folks from that part of the world. You just helped all the non English speaking people to enrich their vocabulary in your native language.

No wonder with such experts like your good self on ME affairs, America is becoming defenseless.

No worries,mate.

As for your women,, what can I say.. Im all about the Bunda.

Obrigado pra te tbm, Jimmy, por cumprimentar as Bundas of our women. However, you are causing great injustice to YOUR women, by making such reckless statements. I don't think that you have ever been to TX or CA.The ladies there are quite shapely and very INTELLIGENT too (at least the ones I ran into). May be the ones in Philly eat too much Mickey food. So I request you not to commit any injustice to your ladies. Of course the ladies from NY are pretty neurotic (like the ones from S.Paulo or B.Aires-large cities like them make you neurotic and a bit frigid too). But we can not generalize.

Jimmy, you are indeed the pride of America, boy. A great communicator too.

Joao, America had many great things but having traveled across the USA as well as Brasil, I can honestly say that Brasil has the best looking women in the world.. Even the fat ugly ones in Brasil try to dress sexy. I guess it's all about preference. For my money,, the beaches of Rio and Floripa have the best looking Gata's in the world.

Amen, Jimmy. You got a point there. Regardless of the nationality or the passports they carry, long live the shapely Bundas. For my valuable Reais, I bet you are (or were) a very good student of Geometry smilies/grin.gif

Jimmy, your money is worthless at this moment. However, I can make out that your travel experience to South America is very limited. The next time you visit this great continent, include Mar del Plata, Puenta del Leste, Valparaiso, Vinha del Mar, etc; Even in the Southern tip of Chile you can find curvaceous Bundas.

You have a long journey ahead of you, my boy. You may even end up setting up a "Discovery of Bundas" channel, to compete with the existing one! Just imagine a Channel, dedicated exclusively to the Bundas. After all Ted Turner made money by starting CNN. You can also do so by starting a new channel, dedicated exclusively to curvatures.

Agreed, to a point off course. We should help fellow human beings whenever we can. San n****rs, nice word, how old are you? Less than 15 understandable, more than 15 you are a retard.

BTW, do you have any expression to describe the Brazilians? Mexicans.

Again, the above answer applies. Your knowledge of the world is so limited, your poor old soul.

Very sad about the great divide between the haves and the have nots in your country.

Ahhh, your country is going downhill too, are you learning with us? The wealth gap grows extensively every year. Do some research on the issue and you'll think twice before pointing fingers. For a FIRST WORLD COUNTRY, your record is shameful. Health CARE? Have you seen Michael Moore's new movie? You are living in a illusion!

Americans are mutt dogs, nobody in Europe thinks or sees you as pure white people. I am second generation WHITE DUTCH, THE REAL DEAL. Not some way back, ancestry s**t you like to portray. Brazil has a large WHITE race, black, native, mulato, negro. Beautiful mixture our people is one of the most beautiful in the world, no wonder we export more models than any other country.Actually, anthropologically speaking race is bulls**t, otherwise we would have different species and we are all the same. So your claim as being White actually is bull. Do some DNA test dear, in this land "pure whites", if that exists, is rare. For sure you have a foot in Africa, we all do. I know a black guy that has done his DNA and he is 90% white, so is he white or black? Skin color is mere adaptation to the environment. Brazil had a large European immigration, throughout our history from our discovery to long after the WWII, we have a large wave of immigrants coming, for all over the world. And that is what makes Brazil unique. We are not xenophobic like "you" (I am saying this directly to you, no America because I know many good people here to have such an idea).

With all their diversity of breed, the dog is, regardless, the same dog. Since their is such a semantic hew and cry over the word race, I would suggest with a modicum of tongue in cheek to discribe the diversity of humanity as breeds of humanity. With an ideal of breed, ie white, black, yelllow etc. Each with its associative qualities. Ironically if you left a pobulation of diverse breeds of dogs to their own devices; over an infinite period of time, they would eventually breed themselves back to an original 'canis familaris'. And so in an infite amount of time 'man' would equally breed himself back to an original 'homo sapien'. But race , whether you like it or not, does have a dictionary meaning:
n.
1. A local geographic or global human population distinguished as a more or less distinct group by genetically transmitted physical characteristics.
2. A group of people united or classified together on the basis of common history, nationality, or geographic distribution: the German race.
3. A genealogical line; a lineage.
4. Humans considered as a group.
5. Biology
a. An interbreeding, usually geographically isolated population of organisms differing from other populations of the same species in the frequency of hereditary traits. A race that has been given formal taxonomic recognition is known as a subspecies.
b. A breed or strain, as of domestic animals.
6. A distinguishing or characteristic quality, such as the flavor of a wine.

It has a temporal validity, as a description of an idealized population of people. As there is an 'apparent' difference between a Maori and a Dane, the difference is linguistically described as 'race', though, like it or not, the word 'breed' would be closer to the meaning of 'race'. Appearances have a validity only in the moment; but the moment is in motion and one of the characteristics of motion is change.

Yes, we may be considered Mutts by Europeans, but no more Mutts than your country, whether your white or not is not my point, as you should know the miscenegation that took place in brazil from the beginning is not what occurred in the u.s.a;
now with so much more immigration from all over the world as oppose to European immigration from the past the scenery as changed, but still not us much as your country.
Yes, brazilians may be unique, thanks to all the mixing that went on, but they only talk about it when it suits them to hiklite themselves or you, as if it's a Happy Land, it's not, i have been there & lived there & the reality is very different than the impression normally given.

Just because you have a good looking friend does nto speak for the rest of the country, after all beauty can be found in all countries of the world. But more importantly beauty is also in the eye of the beholder.
I have been in a # of countries & i found the above to be true all over, there are beautiful & ugly people, brazil is no exception.

In this world there are lots of injustices and prejudices. I belief diplomats should mix more with the common people on the streets. Somehow, now I see more diplomats are getting involve in politics. Malaysia and Australia have selected diplomats to become their leaders. It seems to me that in times of conflict diplomat can take control of the nation.

Food for thought ?

Don't Muslims ever wear out their Korans and replace them? What do they do with the old one?
What do Muslims NOT consider to be desecration? What happens to Islam if a dog touches the Koran or goes on it?
Does the fact that numerous infidels operated the presses and packed each book in its shipping container and unpacked it at the book store not mean Islam was desecrated? Those same printing presses might have been used to produce the Bible or the Torah. Infidel ink in the Koran!

Ten Obvious Reasons Why
Islam is NOT a Religion of Peace

#1 10,000 deadly terror attacks committed explicitly in the name of Islam in just the last six years. (Other religions combined for perhaps a dozen or so).

#2 Muhammad, the prophet of Islam, had people killed for insulting him or criticizing his religion. This included women. Muslims are told to emulate the example of Muhammad.

#3 Muhammad said in many places that he has been "ordered by Allah to fight men until they testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is his messenger." In the last nine years of his life, he ordered no less than 65 military campaigns to do exactly that.
Muhammad inspired his men to war with the basest of motives, using captured loot, sex and a gluttonous paradise as incentives. He beheaded captives, enslaved children and raped women captured in battle. Again, Muslims are told to emulate the example of Muhammad.

#4 After Muhammad died, the people who lived with him, and knew his religion best, immediately fell into war with each other.
Muhammad's favorite daughter, Fatima, and her husband, Ali (the second convert to Islam, who was raised like a son to Muhammad) fought a war against an army raised by Aisha, Muhammad's favorite wife - and one whom he had said was the "perfect woman."
Not only was her husband, Ali, eventually murdered, but Fatima (who survived the early years at Mecca safe and sound) died of stress from the persecution of fellow Muslims only three months after her father died.
Three of the first four Muslim rulers (caliphs) were murdered. All of them were among Muhammad's closest companions. The third caliph was killed by the son of the first. The fourth caliph was killed by the fifth, who subsequently poisoned one of Muhammad's two favorite grandsons. Muhammad's other grandson was later beheaded by the sixth caliph.
Within 50 years, the Kaaba, which had stood for centuries under pagan religion, lay in ruins from internal Muslim war.

#5 Muhammad directed Muslims to wage war on other religions and bring them under submission to Islam. Within the first few decades following his death, his Arabian companions invaded and conquered Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist and Zoroastrian lands.

#6 Muslims continued their Jihad against other religions for 1400 years, checked only by the ability of non-Muslims to defend themselves. To this day, not a week goes by that Islamic fundamentalists do not attempt to kill Christians, Jews, Hindus and Buddhists explicitly in the name of Allah.
None of these other religions are at war with each other.

#7 Islam is the only religion that has to retain its membership by threatening to kill anyone who leaves. This is according to the example set by Muhammad.

#8 Islam teaches that non-Muslims are less than fully human. Muhammad said that Muslims can be put to death for murder, but that a Muslim could never be put to death for killing a non-Muslim.

#9 The Qur'an never once speaks of Allah's love for non-Muslims, but it speaks of Allah's cruelty toward and hatred of non-Muslims more than 500 times.

#10 "Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar!"
(The last words from the c**kpit of Flight 93)

These Pictures tell it all!

Muslims have stated that England will be the first country they take over!
These are pictures not shown on American TV or in American Newspapers (as they might help Bush's war on terror), but were forwarded to me by a Canadian Friend who thought Americans ought to know!

These pictures are of Muslims marching through the streets of London during their recent "Religion of P eace Demonstration."

Why would anyone think

that we should be at war

with such nice, peaceful Muslims?!

Americans need to Know - You need to forward this.

Reasons why you should not burn the American flag
