While I don't like to generalize, Minas Gerais is arguably the most Catholic state in Brazil. Things are a little more socially conservative and many of the people tend to be a little more suspicious than your average Brazilian (whatever that means). This could be because of Minas' major role in rebelling against the Portuguese. People from Minas tend to be very family-oriented. And this is purely a guess, I have no facts to back this up for present day people. I do know that the early mines of minas gerais were worked by a great many Parecís indian slaves. The Parecís were peaceful, nearby (relatively) and easy to capture. Historians, anthropologists, bandeirantes, have all commented several times upon the beauty of the Parecís indians. Physical form, as well as intelligence, artistic and acting (mime) ability. The Parecís women were immediately taken as sex slaves, household slaves, and etc.. Total conjecture. The women of minas gerais of today are often, to one degree or another, descendants of those women and inherit some of those traits. ??
