Subject: Strange crustaeca at Flamengo beach, Rio IP: Logged
Message: Under the lights at night on the Flamengo beach in Rio, the young boys were catching small crustacea in the wash of the surf. Although being quite familiar with marine life in other countries, this is the first time I have seen these crustacea . They look like an instar of either a crab (without claws) or a shrimp or marine bug, are about 1.5 cm long and scuttle in and out of the sand as the surf wash rises and falls.
Any identification or pictures please. (Note: they are NOT the young of these crabs

Message: I could be wrong, but I am thinking about Tatuí known as crustáceo decápode anuro. Maybe if I could see a picture.

Message: Thanks Fernando B.
"tatuíra" and "anuro" sound like the words that the boys said when I pointed to see the creatures. I have been able, with your help in spelling a name, to find a few pages on these creatures. On reading, they seem to be from a common family in the Americas.
"Emerita brasilienisis" at this page seems to be the one.

Message: Perfect! Exactly what I was thinking! Seems not only scary but I remeber that I filled a small container with them and covered, and I forgot in the garage, so it stank for one week.
