Subject: Northeast of Brasil IP: Logged
Message: I am planning to visit Brasil in January. I want to photograph the Lavagem do Bonfim and Festa de Iemanja in Salvador. I have visited Salvador twice before, and I want to visit a few other cities in the Northeast. I want to visit Recife, Fortaleza and São Luis during my visit. I wanted to ask if you feel 2 or 3 days is a good amount of time to spend in Recife. Is the same amount of time sufficient for Fortaleza (Is Jericoacoara worth the hike/long drive)? And in São Luis would 2 days suffice? Any advice would be appreciated. I am working on my photography ... and I think some of these cities would be great places to take some shots of the architecture and people. Thanks.

Message: Ahh, the Northeast. This is where I spend my time in Brazil. I visit twice a year. I haven't been to Salvador except the airport. IMO, 2 or 3 days is good for Recife. Fun place for nightlife but a bit crowded for my tastes, and the beaches are kinda dirty. I went to Fortaleza last Nov. for the first time. Personally, I was disappointed. Beaches were cleaner than Recife, but ridiculously crowded. I was only there for 2 days, and did not see very much of the city itself.
My favorites are Natal and surrounding area, and Jericoacoara is great too. I could (and have) spend weeks at either place. Joao Pessoa is nice too.
I've heard good things about Sao Luis and Maceio, and will likely check out one or both this year.

Message: How did you get to Jericoacoara, and how long did it take? What were the highlights in this city?

Message: I took a dunebuggy from Fortaleza. About 3 hours IIRC. There are roads now, and electricity! It's not really a city per se. More like a nice tranquil beach resort. Highlights for me: Bodysurfing, lying anound on the beach, Drinking cold beer at night at one of the small outdoor bars, feasting on fresh seafood, etc.

I didn't care much for Fortaleza, (then again I am not a big city person), yet I loved Sao Luis... great photo ops if you know where to go. Check out the dunes.... or is that Parnaiba? It's been awhile.LOL Sorry.. guess I wasn't much help.

Message: Patinho,
