Subject: Tourist visa experation in US

I know absolutely nothing about what is required to visit/work here in the US

Heres the situation. My friend flew into Florida, told them she was here for 10 days to visit Disney with her young son. That was a year ago.

Can you get a work visa so that you can stay here for extended periods? She currently works but i know it is "under the table".I feel bad because she is so limited on opportunuty because of her residency problems, and would like to help her.I thought that since her english isn't quite up to par,i could handle some of the problems she may encounter here.

What would happen if she would get caught?Anything i can do to help?

Thank you for any help!

.

You're friend is fucked. Once she tries to go back to Brasil,
she will be barred from the U.S., probably forever. Overstaying
a visa is no small matter. We have a huge problem with illegal
immigration such as the case you mention. Your friend is
taking a job from an American, much like someone who goes
to Brasil and works is taking a job from a Brasilian. It is
unethical and illegal.

There's no way an illegal alien can get a work visa -- listen to
what you're asking. It's hard enough for Brasilians who
actually have skills, who actually deserve to work in the U.S.,
to get a work visa.

Tell your friend to either stay in the U.S. forever (and plan on
working at diners and other low-paying under-the-table jobs
forever), or tell her to go back to Brasil. They'll give her shit at
the border, but no jail time will result. As I've said, she'll
probably just be forbidden to come to the U.S. again.

Hope this helps!

Without good English skills and being legal, she will not be able to do much else besides under the table domestic jobs. It is possible she could find an domestic employer to sponser her for a work visa, but I really don't know any who would want the government to know about their domestic employees and pay the taxes. Thus, I doubt she will find anyone.
What is sad is that many illegal immigrants in her situation get desperate and end up as exotic dancers, porno models, or prostitues. If you care about her, you will encourage her to return home and go about things the right way. The first would be to apply to an international domestic worker service. They secure the visas and find the employers. She can then come back and enter legally, if her current choice didnt screw up any opportunity she'd have to do that.
Even better, she should study English and then try to reenter the country legally or come back on a Student Visa to attend school. But, it does seem she ruined her chances by staying here illegally.
Sorry to be harsh, but that is reality.
