Hello every body,

Do you know the Fila Brasileiro in Brazil? Any body know where I can find a good Fila in Texas?
I have read something about this dog and seems to be an excellent guard dog of properties and an excellent drove cattle dog.

If you know something about this Brazilian dog breed, please, post in this forum.

You might want to contact Clelia Kruel who founded the Fila Brasileiro Association in Texas and wrote several books including All About the Fila. If she didn't change her email recently Clelia should be reached at clelia@swbell.net.

Hello,

If you want to know more about the Fila Brasileiro, then access this web site:

http://www.dt.fee.unicamp.br/~amaury/filanet.html

but, be careful. To have a Fila Brasileiro is not a dog for anybody. You need to have some precautions because Filas donīt like of strangers and they have " ojeriza " it means in Portuguese: Aversion, Distrust and Dislike in toward strangers. Filas only accept the family members of which it lives together.

Filas are not " poodles " or " spaniel cockers ". They are good companion, but to the owner and family members of which he convives daily.

How the police almost donīt exist in Brazil, then normally the Brazilian families protect their homes with a good protection and guard dog and Filas are generally very used to protect wharehouses, depots, residences, ranchs, farms, etc...

My brother had two and my sister one. My brothers dogs were trained by him..they were wonderful...loving dogs..HUGE...we had so much fun with them..and they were great with our little 13 inch beagle...hilarious to see a 135 lb dog next to a 30lb dog! They were such wonderful dogs...but what a mess..you have to have a big yard for these guys..it would be a shame to put them in a small home. Now...my sister's dog..she did not train..she took it to an obedience school and then to an attack dog training...I did not trust that dog at all...it was so beautiful...but I very scary. It bit my father one time.

They both bought them from a lady in the Dallas, TX area...but they could never get her to send them the proper papers on them...so be careful. Look on the internet ..I think some of the other posts in here tell you good places. If you want to know where my brother got them...email me and I will ask him. I loved his dogs...I always believe in training dogs yourself!

Here is my dog, Fenway.

He has allergics to chicken and meat. He can only eat Turkey, Rice, and potatoes. Sometimes we sneak him some cheese.

Dog shoots owner

Friday, October 25, 2002 Posted: 12:01 PM EDT (1601 GMT)

BROOKLYN PARK, Minnesota (AP) -- Pheasant season took an
ugly turn for Michael Murray when he was shot by Sonny, his
year-old English setter pup.

The puppy knew something was very wrong when Murray
dropped to the ground with blood spurting from his ankle.
"Sonny just laid by my side," Murray said. "He knew
something was bad."

Murray, 42, was hunting in western South Dakota on the first
day of the season last Saturday. He said he was lining up a
photo of the seven birds his hunting party shot in the first
hour.

A loaded 12-gauge shotgun lay on the ground near the frisky
dog.

"He stepped on the gun and it went off," Murray said. "At first I
didn't know what happened. I got that blinding flash of pain
and I sat down. Blood was pumping out of my ankle."

His brother-in-law, Chuck Knutson of Woodbury, quickly tied a
tourniquet above Murray's right boot. The third member of the
hunting party was Murray's father, also Michael, of New
Richmond, Wisconsin.

"My dad's 75," Murray said, "He was white as a ghost."

The three men climbed into their truck and drove to a
relative's house. A half-hour later, an ambulance took Murray
to a nearby hospital.

After 15 stitches and a night in the hospital, Murray is on
course for a complete recovery. "It was the most bizarre thing
that has ever happened to me," he said.

Murray admits there is a certain amount of notoriety that goes
along with getting shot by your dog. "That's the hard part,
talking to people, because you feel like such a fool," he said.
