Anyone have any experience obtaining residency in Brazil and/or permission to work in Brazil without marrying a Brazilian or having brazilian relatives?

It's extremely hard, unless you have a multinational corporation to set you up.

Hello Nathan,

I haven't seen you around for awhile.

Are you speaking of the right to work, or the permanent residence status? I'm under the impression that to obtain permanent residence as a retired person, it is not that hard. From speaking to a few people, the concensus was...$2000.-$4000.
Payed to a service or an attorney, and a wait of 6 mo. to 2 yrs. for final documents.

If you have more info, please post here or e-mail me.
