wanted to get some tips on places to go in sao paolo/ rio, where one could find contemporary brazilian music being played.

would appreciate some club names and/or districts to go to while i'm there in august.

Best districts for Sao Paulo - Pinheiros and Moema. That is where cool live music bars are. Pinheiros has a younger crowd (18-25), Moema is a little bit older (20-30). Do you like Forro, northeratern traditional music? It has an awsome beat, but you better know how to dance to go to a forro place. Rock Brasil a good bar in Moema for contemporary brazilian music, despite the name it is not just rock (some friends play there and they are awsome). You should say specifically what kind of brazilian music, since it is VERY diverse...
