I'm going to Brazil this month and I'm trying to figure out how to send packages from Brazil to my home so I don't have to carry any extra luggage with me if I buy anything. Can anyone help me?

Thanks!

You can go to any Correo office (Brazilian Post Office) and send your package by Sedex. You should not have any problem getting your stuff to the US within five days but remember to keep your receipt.

You should do so with caution, however. The postcards I sent from Brazil via the Post Office in Rio never arrived. I wouldn't send anything with those guys that you don't mind loosing...

Hi Michael,

Yes, FedEx is there with six flights a week! But I never had any trouble with packages my parents sent to me by Correios! You can go to Correios (post office) and do what ben said. So, I do not think there gonna be any problems with stuff coming from Brazil, but the other way I can not say the same!

Dear Michael:

As people said above, all you have to do is to go to a post office agency ("Correios" in Portuguese)and send your packages by Sedex. You will also find FedEx in Brazil, but not at the post office agencies. Once in Brazil, get the phone book for FedEx offices.

Sedex is very expensive. If you want to save up some money, send your package by what they call "petit paquet". I often send packages to the United States and also send them by "petit paquet". I once asked the post office agent why "petit paquet" was so cheap and I was told it was cheap because it would take about one month to get to the USA. Then I wondered where my package would be during one month. Traveling around the world? Or waiting at the post office shelves as a means of punishment because I paid little? It's not logical for a package to take one month to get to the USA from Brazil. Much to my surprise, all packages that I sent to the USA by "petit paquet" arrived in their destination within five days. My conclusion: the guys at the Post Office will always want you to choose the most expensive way.

You may also try the mailing services by the airline companies such as Vasp and Varig.

Caution! said he posted postcards in Rio and they never arrived. Something like this may rarely happen anywhere. I also posted postcards in New York and they never arrived in Brazil. Only one arrived six months later after being missent to the Phillipines. And, believe me, the word "Brazil" was very clearly written on it.

Enjoy your stay in Brazil,

Rene
