Subject: Brazilian MafiaPosted by Patinho On Tuesday, September 17, 2002 at 00:07:24 Message: I am just curious, I am a big "fan" (if you can call it that) of the Italian Mafia and Mafia Movies in America. I have heard bits and pieces about Organized Crime in Brazil.. from the "Bingo Mafia" to the more recent news stories of druglords. So, other than drugs and "bingo", is there a "mafia" in Brazil, and if so, what types of businesses are they involved in? Are there any connections to the Italian mob? Things like "made men", the oath of Omerta, etc.... Any info on this would be appreciated.

The best time to read is when you are on the couch. You can't very well read while jogging now can you? So which is it? I see the Bingo mafia all the time. That's the old ladies who hog all the bingo tables and won't let you sit down and play becaause they are playing 30 cards at once.

And yes, how are you supposed to read WHILE YOU'RE RUNNING?! Let's think about what we're saying, people.
![]() | RE: Brazilian Mafia Posted by Patinho On Wednesday, September 18, 2002 at 00:01:55 Message: Thanks fellas... I also tried standing and reading, but doing this for an extended amount of time gets tiresome. Isn't SILVIO the coolest character on the Sopranos?? Thank God season 4 started. Anyway... I like the joke about "Bingo Mafia". But seriously, I work in the gambling industry (we call it para-mutual wagering), where we receive a monthly publication about gambling around the world. There was an article on Brazil with it's newly formed lottery and the possible reinception of casinos. In the article it mentioned that several organized crime outfits receive "kick ups" from several Bingo Halls, they even decide when and where to set some of them up and that this was a major form of income for them. This publication is fairly dependable. However... I was just making a "shot in the dark" with this post to see if anyone knew anything about a Mafia in Brazil. Just to please my own curiosity.
