The Engagement

I look at my portrait on the wall. Time gnaws and destroys peoples faces. To waste my face there was time and this man. Time wrinkled my forehead, he excavated shadows under my eyes; time pulled my teeth, he crooked my mouth; time sharpened my profile, he engraved on me this air of someone who retreats; together both have instilled rust and mould into my hollow depths.
