Brazil Provides Consulting to Cabo Verde University

The Coordinating Office for the Training of University Personnel (Capes) of Brazil’s Ministry of Education (MEC) will provide technical consulting to the planning process of the first public university of Cabo Verde.

One of the objectives is to train that country’s faculty, because of the 300 existing higher education professors, only 3% are PhDs, and 21% are Masters. The consulting work will start on the second semester of this year.

This initiative is the result of Brazilian support to the education sector in Cabo Verde, and is also part of President Lula’s external policy.

“In addition to the solidarity, this is a developing country. We will increase exchange with the African continent and expand knowledge, helping the region’s development,” said Capes’ General Coordinator for International Cooperation, Benício Schmidt.

The partnership program between the two countries was signed this last January, as part of the cooperation agreement in the areas of higher education and science. Brazilian government will also collaborate in the organization of the first University Fair of Cabo Verde.
