Brazil Under Operation Shock of Order for Carnaval

Infraero (Empresa Brasileira de Infra-estrutura Aeroportuária) the state-run agency that operates airports in Brazil has begun to distribute pamphlets to tourists arriving in Rio de Janeiro for Carnaval.

The pamphlets contain useful information and safety tips and are part of Operation Shock of Order (Operação Choque de Ordem).

Some 1.5 million tourists are expected in Rio for Carnaval. They will pump around US$ 500 million into the local economy.

Operation Shock of Order has been in place since January, when tourist safety became a concern of Brazilian authorities after a bus with 33 English tourists was attacked by bandits. Most of the gang that attacked the English tourists has been arrested.
