World’s Best Horsemen in Brazil for International Horse Jumping Contest

For the first time ever, Brazil will host one of the legs of the Global Champions Tour horse racing championship, to be held in the southeastern Brazilian city of São Paulo between August 2 and 5.

The Athina Onassis International Horse Show – São Paulo 2007, which is the eighth leg of the International Horse Jumping Contest (CSI), will offer more than US$ 1 million in prizes.

The event will take place at Sociedade Hí­pica Paulista (São Paulo Equestrian Society), and should bring together the main participating teams in the Pan American Games of Rio de Janeiro, as well as the best European horsemen.

The International Equestrian Federation rates this championship as having the highest possible value for qualification, at five stars. Estimated attendance for the event is 12,000.

Brazilian riders whose participations are confirmed include Rodrigo Pessoa, who ranks among the world's 20 best, ílvaro Affonso de Mirando Neto, André Miranda, Bernardo Alves, and the horsewoman Karina Harbich Johannpeter.

Also confirmed is the participation of riders from the United States, Argentina, Germany, Belgium, Canada, Chile, France, Holland, Mexico, Ireland, Puerto Rico, Portugal, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine and Venezuela.
