Hi there,
I am trying to telephone a Brazilian mobile (cellular) phone number from Australia, but it never seems to get through. I have no problems in calling Brazilian land lines. Should I leave the city code or one of the first numbers off when calling from outside Brazil? The number is in the form 55 (BRAZIL INT. CODE), XX (City code) XXXX XXXX.
Can anyone throw some light on this?

These problems are normal, especially during the day time when lines are reserved for "in country" calls... for businesses, etc...
I know this sounds nutz, but think of an old woman working a switchboard trying to connect all those calls. Same thing basically... just electronically.
This is a normal problem we all have to deal with.. so just keep trying!

Are you using an Australian land line or a calling card. Some cards have a limited amount of lines to connect to a specific country.
I tried once using a card and couldn't get through because all of the circuits were busy. I then tried my normal telephone company and got through immediately. (although it cost me and arm and a leg)

Thanks guys, I think it was a problem with blocked lines, because I got through for the first time today! Oh, and yes I am using a phonecard, as you said the regular international rates DO cost an arm and a leg!

This is directed at Aussies who ring Brasil.
I normally use my home phone for calls, due to better service, but it is a bit more expensive than cards.
Can anybody recommend any decent phone cards for Brasil please? And can anybody comment on any dodgy phone cards also? Obrigado
