Slow Pace: Brazil Surplus Grows to US$ 10.5 Billion

Renault's LoganBrazilian exports totaled last week US$ 3.534 billion while imports
amounted to US$ 2.326 billion, resulting in a surplus of US$ 1.208
billion. The figures were disclosed by the Brazilian Ministry of
Development, Industry and Foreign Trade.
There was growth of 17.9% in the daily export average, compared with May, and a reduction of 20.2% over June 2008. With regard to imports, there was a reduction of 0.3% over May, and of 38.4% in comparison with June last year.

The trade surplus recorded last week was the highest weekly surplus since the second week of September 2008, according to the ministry.

So far this year, exports have reached US$ 59.018 billion and imports, US$ 48.438 billion, resulting in a surplus US$ 10.58 billion.

Renault 700,000

Renault Brazil announced that it has surpassed the mark of 700,000 automobiles manufactured in the country. The company's factory, in the city of São José dos Pinhais, state of Paraná, started operating in December 1998.

The number 700,000 vehicle to leave the assembly line was a red Sandero Stepway model, the sports version of the compact Sandero hatchback. The company also announced that it has produced more than 100,000 units of the Logan model, a compact sedan launched in mid-2007.

According to a press release issued by the company, the president of Renault Brazil, Jean-Michel Jalinier, stated that the figures attained are an "important indicator, showing that the brand is winning the trust of Brazilian consumers."

Renault's factory in Paraná, according to the release, has a production capacity for 200,000 vehicles per year. Presently, it makes 500 automobiles per day, including the Scénic, Mégane, Mégane Grand Tour, Logan and Sandero models.
