Brazil, Venezuela and Colombia Hold Summit in the Amazon

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will meet with presidents Hugo Chávez (Venezuela), and Àlvaro Uribe (Colombia), this Tuesday, March 29, in Ciudad Guayana, in the Venezuelan Amazon.

They will discuss the strengthening of their countries relations, the war on drugs and weapons trafficking, and the combat of transnational organized crime.


Prime Minister of Spain, José Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, was invited to the meeting, according to Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Relations.


The Ministry says that “in addition to increasing cooperation among their countries, specially on development projects, and those focusing on the social needs of the bordering population, who is directly affected by conflicts and drug trafficking, the four presidents will discuss strengthening of means for political dialogue among their governments, and the promotion of integrating initiatives.”


The presidents will also talk about “regional and international issues such as the United Nations reform, combat of hunger and poverty, dialogue of civilizations, South American Community of Nations, and Ibero-American Conferences.”


They will examine “regional security, commerce, investments, infrastructure, tourism, and cooperation issues,” the Ministry adds.
